Games thread!

Hahaha I love this secret OP, relate to it entirely, and wish to subscribe to your extremely crochety newsletter XD

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
This... doesn't make you sound like anything. It's just your utterly harmless POV.

Fucks sake, when did it become a moral point to have a freaking opinion that differs from other people???

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
It's Greek mythology, isn't incest just par for the course?

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Same, OP, same. I just keep writing in my fandom and wish there were other writers who didn't write the male OTP like a heterosexual pairing.

I certainly think the best thing to do in such a situation is to accept it and pass into the West and not to be an ass about it

Storylines that have always bugged you

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Are there any particular storylines from your fandoms that you have always particularly disliked? You love most things about your fandom, but just this one or two little plotlines drive you nuts and you get frustrated every time they come up?

I hate, hate, hate the idea of Bobba Fett surviving the Sarlacc pit. It just adds to his mystique in ways that never used to be canon. It was always one of my least favorite parts of the EU. Him going into the Sarlacc was a fitting end for him.

Actually, that sort of "oh, actually, they're alive" storyline is something I most of the time dislike as a rule anyway.

But at least when it was EU, I could ignore it since I never read those parts. But now, for some stupid, ridiculous reason they've decided to make it canon. Why? There is no good reason to do that. We have Mando now. I'm enjoying the Mandalorian, but this has seriously ruined my enthusiasm for the show.

Well, that puts you as someone who likes it more than a lot of Star Trek fans

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm with you, OP. To be completely honest, I see pretty much all of my "ships" this way (I use quotes there because I've seen differing opinions about whether it even counts as a ship if you don't want them to bang) and it definitely gets lonely when everyone else is all about the porn. Even fics on AO3 tagged as asexual usually have a ton of sex. (And yes, I know some asexual people are fine with having sex, but a lot AREN'T, and I almost never see that depicted in fics.)

I'm so thankful I got out of the Hades fandom when I did before the waves of drama crashed in. It was awesome back in beta and everyone was super chill. Now, admittedly I'm not into Thanatos/Zagreus simply because there's so much damn fanfic and fanart for it (oversaturation just nonsensically bothers me with any fandom regardless of content) but the fact that people are now seriously bitching about it because of the incest element of all things is hilarious. Hades is directly inspired by the Greek pantheon for fuck's sake, of course it has incest, it would suck as an adaption if it didn't at least hint at it.

As someone watching a summary of Msscribe's antics from the previous fandomsecret thread...

It doesn't seem like a lot of new stuff? Puritanical posturing and those who claim "all stuff is fine it's all fiction" seems to have existed since the start of online fandom. The only difference is now it includes more knowledge about different types of prejudice.

Or are you talking more about the current fads like "imagine" fics. Which isn't current. Because I don't keep up with the currents.

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha. I don't know what it says about me, but I can't help but my roll my eyes at people who get all bent out of shape about incest in fic.

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
As someone who IS squicked out by incest fics, especially those who grew up together... it has more to do with what's allowable in-universe here. Like, it's freaking Greek mythology. It's incest all the way down.

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I have no clue what fandom this is, but that's cracking me up.

Oh, so that's the "decades old mystery" that was solved on the Mandalorian. I was curious, but not curious enough to Google. Thanks!

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
*shrugs* Nothing wrong with that. I write for a ship and I don't like any of the other fics that have been made for it either. Guess I just simply see the characters in a different light than others.

How is that a "decades old mystery?" How ridiculous. No mystery. He was dead until they decided he wasn't.

[personal profile] kribban 2020-12-05 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey now, season 3 is TNG-levels of Trek.

The Captain reports to the hot admiral. The admiral assigns him a mission. The Discovery executes that mission. Episode ends. That's Trek enough for me.

Re: Storylines that have always bugged you

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It's still an in-universe mystery even if the out-of-universe explanation isn't mysterious at all

Still salty about "Jake & Amy never talked about having kids before getting married" on B99. They used to be my favorite fictional couple, and that whole episode was so out-of-character for them. I don't know anyone who actually liked that plot, though, so at least I'm not alone.

Nice!

Ngl, all my knowledge comes from 40-something male YouTubers, so it is very very biased.
