A friend is someone who likes you even though they know you ;). I've made two best friends on LJ, one of whom I knew through LJ for a good few years before we got talking properly.

Chances are that the lack of feedback has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of your stuff. But go off and write something for yourself, or better yet some original fiction, and come back to fandom later. Trial separations are good! And you won't have expectations of fandom etc hanging over you as you write (or draw, or whatever it is that you do).

113 - i hear ya. i tend to go for the unconventional or just plain unpopular pairings, so ive encountered the same situation once or twice. none that ever listed me as a favorite author, but yeah. and for the most part, their fics arent BAD, its just that theyre so UNINSPIRED, so boring. so REPETITIVE, especially if you read several at once. so...formulaic, i guess. insert tab a into slot b; shake, stir, and repeat. ad nauseum. but its that feeling you described - like, you get tricked into thinking 'ok, maybe it wont be so bad this time'. but then you read it and you regret it. i want to say something, but id just feel so MEAN. and its better than nothing.

I thought the ending was entirely fitting. While I can understand some people being aggravated at it- I don't think it would have worked better any other way.

One of these days I'm gonna break down and buy the DVD and write some Nuala/Nuada 'cest fics. Not despite the fact that it's fucked up, but BECAUSE of it.

And also, while some breeds of Trekkie can be quite awe-inspiring and scary, I've never met a deluded Trekkie that greeted a Trek actor by trying to chop his head off with a bat'leth or by speaking in Klingon or trying to assimilate him/her with homemade Borg nodules.

139 - Why be afraid to participate? If you know by lurking that Suethors tend to be disliked because they make their fics all about their sparkly self-inserts, then don't write stuff like that. Learn from other people's mistakes. Also, it's possible to participate in a fandom without writing fic for it.

163 - HOYES. The two of them and their perpetual on-off chemistry ALMOST made me forget that the Janeway/Chakotay fans got completely forgotten. It's not that I wanted Voyager to become the new sci-fi Love Boat, but it's tradition for the Cap'n to get some romance, and in all the series, it was only Janeway who never got any (that lasted)! WTF!?

171 - I think that's half the point of the Sims. Where did you get all those fandom skins, though? *wants!* Though... I guess I should wait until Sims 3 comes out for the Mac. And skins and the like aren't usually cross-compatible, are they (I mean from one version of the Sims to another, not from PC to Mac)?

I'm trying to figure out who's who in all those boxes. We got Itachi making stupid faces; Monkey D. Luffy and Sailor Moon hooking up; Belldandy arguing (!) with... I wanna say Sasuke, but I'm not sure; some people I don't recognize; Kakashi hugging a zebra; Bakura going vampire on Sailor Venus' arm... oh look, there's Pluto about to kiss Sesshomaru (!), Sailor Jupiter meeting Phoenix Wright, Yuugi doing card tricks, L pleading with... somebody, Sephiroth posing... dayum, that's a lot of fandom characters. I'd lose track of them all. :P
