138. I understand that people are offended by it. I understand that they have the right to be offended by it. However, I do think Korea should lighten up as well. As a Korean, I find the whole Korea vs Japan shitstorm tiring. Little kids are drawing racist and nationalistic pictures for school and some parents are beating their children for liking Japanese products (games, anime, whatnot). 128. I actually kind of introduced my closest friends to fandomspeak, because I can't stop myself from phrases like "I ship it," or "OTP" most of the time. They've started talking that way, too, so it's kind of funny. I recently (like, three days ago) made a friend who's often on 4chan, though, and it's so refreshing not to have to think "will they understand this?" Not to mention she ships slash and isn't weirded out by anything, so I know what you mean.

153. My father apparently looks like Hugh Grant (haha, they're both named "Hugh," that's funny), and even though I totally see it, I'm still in love with him. 129) Zuko is a fan favorite and Katara is the main female that's of shipping age, some people like the Romeo+Juliet aspect too. It's like...(I don't know if you've ever read Harry potter)...Draco/Hermione, for example. Kataang can squick a lot of shippers since Aang is 12 and if you ever met a 12 year old boy that's pretty damn young. Hth.

Stop comparing zutara to that. Draco is nothing but a wet fish, Zuko has decent characterization and it was obvious from the first series he was going to end up on the right side at some point.

129) A lot of fans decided very early on that Zuko's redemption arc would center around Katara, due in part to "The Waterbending Scroll" and "The Siege of the North" as far as I can tell. After that expectation was established, subsequent turns of events were seen and interpreted through that lens -- Zuko and Katara's talk in the crystal catacombs, the Guru's insistence that Aang would have to "give up" Katara to master the Avatar State, even the fact that Mai discouraged Zuko from moping around were all seen as "foreshadowing" of an inevitable romance between Zuko and Katara. Once Zutara fans started on that path, essentially, they were watching a different show. Unfortunately, that meant that large swaths of the show as it actually existed seemed to them to be some combination of dull, nonsensical and disappointing.

IT IS ACTUALLY A VERY SAD TALE. :(

Though I would point out that the incredibly bad behavior of an active minority of Zutara shippers means my sympathies are pretty damn limited at this point.
