I am both amused and horrified by these two... but mostly amused. Its some perverse way, Nuala/Nuada makes sense. Throw in a little Abe and dear Lord!

Re: 134, 142

(Anonymous) 2009-01-20 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not the OP on either, but Nuada/Nuala is sort-of canon! The actor who played Nuada acknowledged in an interview that he and the actress were playing it like there was a past, totally fucked-up relationship between the two siblings. He implied that it was a sexual relationship.

When you consider that Nuada and Nuala are telepathically linked, the idea of adding Abe to the mix is a pretty funky one. I have someone on my friendslist whose immediate response to the reveal of the telepathic link (and Abe/Nuala) was "DUDE IF ABE AND NUALA DID IT THE PRINCE WOULD TOTALLY FEEL LIKE ABE WAS DOING HIM IN THE BUTT." The reality would probably be, you know, slightly more subtle than that, but it would be pretty weird.

I'm so happy seeing Hellboy secrets! =D

130. Now I’ve got bad 1guy1cup images in my head XDDD
137. How would that work though? I’ve always talked to any sort of Death fans (mostly Terry Pratchett ones) and they’re all ‘I’d hit it!’. HOW?
172. Fuck yes!

[identity profile] velvet-mace.livejournal.com 2009-01-20 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
101) Sigh. Me too. I've met great friends through LJ -- but soul mates that I can just squee my head off to on any subject? Nope. I'm just a bit too weird to have a brain twin. Now I've seen some of my friends pair off that way, but even when I'm on the inside, I'm always just a bit on the outside.

105) RPS and Chan are my big squicks -- but that said, you need to chill out. Really. Someone writing chanporn for the lulz, or even reading it, doesn't make them child molesters. It's all pretend and no one gets hurt and most people can tell the difference between fiction and reality.

129) I ship characters who never interact with each other in canon. All you have to do is take the characters and their backgrounds and imagine circumstances where they'd be together, and what would happen if they were. From my pov, it's easy to see how someone can ship Zutara. Not that I do. Katara is too young for me to ship with anyone, even if it is canon.

167) No, that was Bush's problem. He never reality checked his work. He truly believed with all his heart that what he understood what he was doing and that his ideas would work and that by just conducting his machinations in secret so no one could oppose him he could unleash some heaven on Earth. And it all turned into crap, because reality just doesn't work that way. He got everything he wanted all right, but it his vision is flawed.

Obama is a pragmatist. A smart, very perceptive, responsive pragmatist. He's spewing "hope" because right now, that's what our country needs.

129. I'm with you on that one! Watched the entire series over the course of a week in the fall and finished wandering what the fandom was collectivly smoking. From the fervor of the fans I thought there would be at least SOMETHING between the two. A glance? An attraction? Half the time during their season 3 interaction he's pining after his ACTUAL girlfriend, anyway. She doesn't seem too interested in romance anyway.

158. Me too. Fuck Heroes. Jumped the shark last year.

(Anonymous) 2009-01-20 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
LOL...the fandom never seemed to understand that neither Zuko nor Katara liked or wanted each other romantically. Hell, up until TSR, Katara was ridiculing and threatening Zuko.

I think their disgusted and shocked faces in EIP and the finale over being romantically linked said it all.

149. Despite being a rather well-played (or at least rather knowledgeable) gamer, I've actually never played this game. I have, however, heard nothing but good things about it... I just don't know if it's up my alley, so to speak. But damn if my curiosity isn't getting piqued with comments like this!

159. Oh hell, it's been AGES since I was majorly obsessed with them, but if you find it LET ME KNOW! :D

171. I, um, I recreated Arfenhouse in the Sims - it doesn't get lamer than that. XD; And I had a houseful of Decepticons in the same town. And had... plans for much more. But then I got distracted. This makes me want to go back to that game so badly!

135. MXC? I feel like Ninja Warrior killed this show. D:

[identity profile] velvet-mace.livejournal.com 2009-01-20 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
151) That's not how it works. There's lots of reasons why you didn't get a big response that have nothing to do with the quality of the work.

1) You picked a lull or conversely a very active period for the community. If it was a lull, people might not check your fic until a few days later, and there's a tendency for people not to comment on a fic they perceive as being "old" (sometimes people actually apologize to me for commenting on an old fic, as if I might be offended). If the community got too active, then you might have been pushed from the first page before there was a chance to garner much of an audience.

2) You have a great fic, but a poor header. People usually spend about a second deciding whether or not to click on a link, and if your header doesn't sound really interesting, (or if it commits any number of sins of formatting) people will say, eh no.

3) Your fic is great, but it's an unpopular pairing or situation that doesn't really grab people. Your story could be either too weird that it sounds ungainly, or else too generic to be worthy of interest. Personally, I think it's best to err on the weird side, because fandom tends to be so cliched.

In fact popularity (and comments) has far more to do with content than with quality. Don't be embarrassed. Just observe and find out what stories your new fandom is actually yenning for.

OP of 151...

(Anonymous) 2009-01-20 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I thank you kindly for the excellent advice (and everyone else who commented with advice) and I feel kind of bad for not specifying in my secret - I'm a fanartist (there aren't that many people doing fanart in this fandom and I was trying to be very anon.) But the fact that everyone thought I was talking about fic was kind of illuminating in itself. Some fandoms are more interested in and eager for fanart than others; HP, for instance, was always hungry for fanart and the feedback reflected that. I think maybe fandoms based on television just don't have the same 'need' for fanart because they can see the characters just by watching the show.

Of course, fanartists who have huge flists and big followings still get lots of feedback, but I don't have either, so my work is judged on a piece by piece basis and that's when it gets awkward - when I post something I've worked very hard on, and I think it looks pretty sharp, but almost no one comments, I start second-guessing my own eyes. I generally bounce my artwork off a few people, and my test audience liked it, so...I don't know. But again, thanks for the well-thought out advice. Some of it, especially #1, may be helpful in the future.

155. Aha, I like your candor, OP. I do think the men in that picture look mighty handsome in that color.

165. ...O-on what planet is it possible to dislike Tony?! D:
(Ok, well, if you put the whole Jeanne thing aside, he's loyal, he's funny, and he's mean, yes, but that shows how he is flawed! Gah, I dunno, maybe I'm such a sucker for his smile. :) And I heart Ziva. How often do you find a kick-ass Israeli woman fighting crime on TV? She and Tony have such good banter. Well, at least I think so. I adore the cast and the show overall.)

I don't understand the hate or the "lol troll"s when someone says they don't like Hetalia or the backlash and "I have lost all respect for you" when someone says they do like Hetalia.

What ever happened to "to-each-his-own"? Or just not reading it if you feel offended or simply don't like it?

Re: 124, 138

(Anonymous) 2009-01-20 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
While I do think that a few Hetalia secrets are prone to trolls.

I do wish that the few on both sides just stop it already.

To the few Hetalia fans. Yes, someone can be offended by Hetalia, and that's a-okay. This is not a case of people being butthurt for chrissakes. Just stop using this same damn phrase. Fuck, if that's your only retort, keep it to yourself.

To the few Hetalia haters. Most of the fandom can understand it can be offensive for some. But if its offensive to you, it doesn't mean the person who likes Hetalia for what it is are horrible people for liking it. And I'm still shocked the few of you are still painting the whole fandom with the same brush like 138 here. Ignore that only a few butthurt knuckleheads went out of line despite that some of the fans told them off about it.

Both sides need to fucking learn that people perceive history differently. Some can make jokes at it (even worse than Hetalia even), some treat it very serious business and that's okay.
