I think the logic is that if a politician screws up seriously, fans may find themselves in the position of fangirling or having fangirled someone who actually caused serious harm to real people (whereas, for actors or band members, not so much, and for fictional people, not at all). I think this is the logic, anyway.

Ahh, there's no need to keep that a secret! If it doesn't move you, then that's just fine; people are affected by different things. I can't imagine any part of EBA Fandom would come even close to being upset with you over it.

It took time for it to sink in for me, honestly; and really, the final levels make me cry much more (from their epic) than the sad levels in EBA or Ouendan.

Okay, first of all? Numerous people on the comm adore Steve -- many of us are furious at Marvel for killing him off, some of us to the point of boycotting current comics because of it. Yes, anonymous, I made a point of visiting the Marvel Enterprisies booth at ComicCon today just so I could inform them that I would never spend money on a comic they published again until they brought Steve back just because I don't like the idea of shipping Tony with someone black. I waited for twenty minutes to go a panel discussion just to hear Joe Simon (creator of Captain America) speak just because I'm racist, not because I love Steve. I own expensive Golden Age Captain America omnibuses in hardback because I only like shipping Tony with white people. (note: also, I object to the idea that not slashing War Machine with Tony means I don't like War Machine. I don't ship Pepper or Happy with Tony, either, and I love them, too).

I love both haves of my OTP, and I don't appreciate being told that I don't.

I'll give you that the massive popularity of Tony/Pepper over Tony/Rhodey in movie-verse fandom, even amongst slashers, may have something to do with the same posibly-racial motivations that made Nick/Warrick so much less popular than it should be in CSI fandom, but Steve/Tony is a comic-based pairing, not a movie-based pairing.

Tony and Rhodey have some slash potential in the comics, too, but they don't have on-panel liplocks and statements like "You are my rudder." And just about anything slashy involving them is buried in backissues from the 70s and 80s. You have to delve hardcore into Iron Man back canon in order to get canon slashiness for them, while the Steve/Tony slashiness is right there on comicbook store shelves every week (or was for much of the past four years, anyway).

edit: All right, have talked to OP and calmed down now (sorry, OP, for misintepreting you, and also going off on you and taking my anger at Marvel out on you). Please disregard the wanky first paragraph here, though I'm leaving it up for posterity because I don't like to make a habbit of deleting things because they might make me look bad. That way lies becoming even worse wank fodder.
