Olivia/Peter as a friendship is awesome - but anything closer... it seems way to forced.

But the Astrid/Peter is so cute... when she was trying to fix the computer in the 13(?) episode and was talking about it, did you see how quick Peter came over (and that grin when she was being all techie)... I think he likes her....

136/138. I've never really considered Peter/Astrid, but I can buy it. They'd be cute. I love Fringe, but am not part of the fandom. Is it really all Peter/Olivia? Does no one ship/slash Charlie or Broyles with anyone? No sooper-seekrit Nina/Olivia shipping? How sad! I don't care whether Peter and Olivia ultimately get together or not, but I love their current sibling-like relationship. Astrid does seem to be getting more dialogue lately, which is great, but I'd like to see her out of the lab sometimes.

The 'ship is relatively new, so there isn't much of anything yet. I've seen a lot of P/O folks and there's even a community for them. Places like TWoP are pretty split down the middle of those who ship P/O and those who don't.

You know what...

A few years ago, I was studying journalism. I got out of it because the whole field disillusioned me and made me sick to my stomach.

Among the things that bothered me most:

In my city, we have a traffic problem. The usual one: too many cars. Too little road. So our city has been hashing out plans for a "ring road" in the south end of the city. These basically-inevitable plans for the road have been publicly available for many, many years, and the people who live in the area have been getting warnings (via local news) that plans for the road are in increasingly serious negotiations for the past decade or so.

Every year, it has become more obvious that the road is to become a reality. Slowly. But surely.

The people who live in the area are OUTRAGED that they will have to put up with traffic noises out past their backyards. They showed up to Town Hall meetings with signs and petitions. One woman I interviewed had an enormous binder of ring-road-related documents she'd been obsessively keeping for the past two years. I mean, it was several inches thick.

The proposed solution from these people? Build the road through the nearby Native reservation. Yes, REALLY.


When it came time to write the story, I choked. I didn't write it, didn't get a mark in the class. I couldn't do it. Every time I turned on my records to listen to my interviews, my stomach flipped over in nausea.

I just couldn't get over how incredibly selfish these people were. That they would waste SO MUCH time and energy trying to stop something that was inevitable anyway, something that engineers said was unavoidable, something that was for the honest benefit of the whole city. And why? THEY DIDN'T WANT TO HEAR CARS OUTSIDE?! I've lived in maybe one or two neighbourhoods where I couldn't hear major traffic outside MY WHOLE LIFE. Fuckers, you get used to it!

Like I said...that, among other things, was one of the reasons I quit journalism. I couldn't stomach the idea of dealing with small little people like that on a regular basis for however long it took me to get the gig I wanted.



So I read this secret and you're all hot under the collar because people are upset about something that's, oh, let's see, racist and unjust?

OP, I think you need to set your priorities straight! If you want to get upset at people who don't give a damn about anything that doesn't affect them, why don't you first concern yourself with people too fucking unaware and small to be bothered about anything important or meaningful in the first fucking place?
