Indeed. That's by far the only pairing I really care enough about.

I never shipped the actors (I don't like RPS and, well, I don't give enough of a shit about Adam and Anthony to care), but my fic journal's full of Mark/Roger stuff from like 2006 when the Rent fandom... existed.

Hardly a shameful secret. Even the RPS aspect. :)

Big Name Fan.

It got a lot play in early Star Trek fandom when fans began to get published, either in fiction, or in the case of Joannie Winston, in non-fiction both professionally and in fannish circles. (Joannie was part of the group that started Trek cons, known as the Committee. Not that there weren't cons before, but they started mainly Trek only cons.)

The orinial BNFs put in a lot of work putting out fanzines, organizing conventions, creating fanclubs and fannish organiaztions. To the point you would say someone's name, like Joannie, and everyone knew who they meant.

120. Yeah, the Eichi/Mitsuki thing always skeeved me out too, because she was prepubescent at the time and he wasn't. But then, Takuto/Mitsuki is pretty skeevy too. I think to enjoy the series you have to try not to think about these things -- if you're the sort of person who's bothered by them, that is.

165. In terms of Hamlet I can't get beyond the Hamlet/Horatio. Especially in that production! But I can see where you're coming from with Stewart/Tennant for some reason. I think it's because they so obviously worked well together. Plus, the sci-fi fan in me pretty much had a nerdgasm that night. And OMG 10/Picard would be cracktacular.

Ever since seeing Brannagh's hamlet, I totally ship Hamlet/Claudius. Then when I saw that pic, everything about it made my slash goggles explode. Also since Claudius may in fact be Hanlet's actual father it includes incest.

If you are into shipping Horatio/hamlet you should check out some of the productions done at the turn of the last century where Hamlet was played by a woman. I've linked to vids of them in my blog:

I don't know these fandoms, so I can't really comment on that, but I do know that as a young fangirl I thought het was gross. And then I realised that prescribing who people should be with based on their sex was stupid, regardless of whether you think opposite sex relationships are inherently better or whether you think same sex relationships are inherently better. I was more accepting of het ships after that. In fact, four years later, I have just started shipping my first het couple.

There's no point trying to force yourself to like characters you don't like, or to watch TV shows you don't like, or to fantasize about stuff you're not interested in. But it might be good for you to try and find some female characters you like, even if it's not at all shippy and they're just characters you like seeing in the background of canon/fanfic that focuses on your slash ship of choice. There are probably some out there, you just have to find them.

*shrug* Just open yourself up to the possibility of awesome female characters. That's what I did, and I think I enjoy the TV I watch more because of it. I guess it helps that I don't have to see them as threats to my slash ships because I am quite happy to just ignore the crap out of canon if it gets in the way of my shipping.
