re 146, I think Ginny had great potential! But then JKR couldn't figure out what she wanted to do with her. :( She she just kind of changed every book to whatever Harry needed. Sometimes she was the cute girl with a crush. Sometimes she was the sassy flirt that makes him feel all strange in his pants. And SOMETIMES she's the Mary Jane to his Spiderman.

In other words, a girl who's just the reflection of the main guy's needs is boring. (But I don't actually ship either of them with anyone, sooo...)

You ain't kidding about the Ghostbuster Firehouse. I used to work right near it, and passing it every day reaffirmed how much I wanted to be one of them. The Ghostbuster Logo was still hanging right inside the door to the firehouse, which made me think that maybe I'd catch a glimpse of Venkman or Spengler. No such luck, though.

The thing that got me was that it was the same ending as all the others got. Female Disney character=>meets male hero=>finds joy through love.

Just once, I saw a Disney heroine I identified with, and who seemed to want joy from going out there, and experience things, for her own sake, but then got caught up in this Disney-idea of happiness. That she had to have a romantic partner to be happy; that adventures and books and learning couldn't be enough. I didn't like that concept. I still don't like that concept. Love is nice and all (very nice, in fact), but the movie had this whole air of, "Now she has love; that's all she needs, so bugger all that other stuff."

And thanks for disagreeing nicely, btw. :) I'm a little surprised at how piled on I was for this secret.

130: I agree, actually. As one of the few Disney "princesses" not from vaguely feudal/Middle Ages Europe, she doesn't seem to really fit. And far from you being racist, I think Jasmine is just tossed in there to make Disney look less racist (in their defense, most of the "princesses" were from movies made back when most of American entertainment was pretty White).

142: Oh, thank God I, not the only who's had... "those" kinds of thoughts about some of the Predators. It doesn't help (or DOES help, depending how you look at it) that they're humanoid (face notwithstanding--they can keep the mask on!), and run around in outfits that expose most of their legs and chests...

Maybe it comes from being European, but my experience of royalty - both present and especially past - has always been that they're locked away and, if they travel, it's rarely and it's isolated and heavily guarded.

So if Belle's a princess, she'd be popping out babies and sitting quietly in the castle under guard, in my experience. =\

Also, yeah, he needs a name. And a better human design too, really. Yeesh.
