PS - There is a CD I have on my pod where every single song reminds me of one of my main fandoms. That's the only reason it's there at all.

157. I spent my first three years in fandom just reading fanfiction and not even trying to get involved in the community. Even now that I've been actively talking to people in fandom for a couple of years, I still sometimes see other people's relationships and get jealous, because it seems like everyone else is much better at making actual close friendships than me. But there are one or two people who I know in fandom who I think are more friends than acquaintances now, and even if sometimes I feel out of place, or not as connected as everyone else is, I'm sticking around. Hey, getting close to people takes time, right? Maybe more of my acquaintances will become friends in future.

It makes me sad to think that I might have left fandom back when I felt even less connected than I do now. I feel like I've sort of started putting down fannish roots, and I'm glad that I have. I think it really helped me that I joined capslock_spn, because when my flist was smaller participating a really active tight-knit comm gave me a connection to the fandom. I'm sure there's a place/people for you in fandom, you just have to find your niche. It might take a while, but I hope you do find fandom friends.

I think to a certain extent fannish friendships look closer from the outside anyway. There are people who I envy who look like they have tonnes of BFFs, but probably half of those are just acquaintances and they only have a few real friendships in their fannish circle. There are probably a lot of fans out there who feel slightly isolated. Maybe there are even fans who envy each other because they both think the other looks more connected. You're not alone in feeling kinda alone, anyway.

I love Kaworu/Shinji, and I agree with you on the fact that, even with the short amount of time spent together, Shinji really did love Kaworu* as much as he was able to (he says he loved him at the end of the episode, again in 25, and Kaworu represents love to him)... but isn't the whole "I can't respect someone for not agreeing with this" a little too much? Idk. I can understand being a little disappointed or frustrated, but losing respect for someone seems excessive.

*At least in the anime. In the manga he has this weird "I want you but you're a guy and so weird and freaky" relationship going on, although he admits he was still attracted to him, and they might have something were it not for Kaworu coming off too strong, Shinji's issues, and Kaworu being an Angel and thus destined to die or live forever blah blah blah
