153. You are not alone.

Also it had a kick ass sound track- worth it for the u2 version of Dancing barefoot alone.

Haha, you and me both. My only friends who like Metalocalypse are HARDCORE METAL FOLKS who would not be amused by my antics, and my slash-friendly friends think Metalocalypse is stupid. But that's what the internet is for, I guess!

118: Well...a lot of people don't like it, OP ^^; Just like a lot of people don't like het and a lot of people don't like yuri.

Buuuut (And I want to stress here that I'm not trying to start wank or anything like that) I'm honestly curious why. In general, I mean, not just from the OP. When I see people say they dislike yaoi/yuri, I don't judge them at all, each to their own, of course!

But it's something I've never fully understood. Sometimes I do get irked when people brush off a certain pairing, relentless of how plausible/fun/interesting it could be, purely on the principle that it's yaoi or yuri(and I do the same for het, for the record) Sorry, this sounds a bit lame haha ^^; It's late and it's just something I always wonder about

Re: 118

[identity profile] milo1047.livejournal.com 2009-02-16 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Personally I tend to brush off a lot of yaoi pairings because I interpret the characters as canonly straight (i.e. Lupin III. The man never stops chasing skirts!) or have canon love interests/romantic attachments. This makes me a bit of a canon-nazi, I guess. And a bit of a hypocrite because one of my favorite ships has a guy who won't stop chasing this one girl throughout the series...but I never said I was perfect.

Also, I tend to dislike how characters are shoved into the seme/uke stereotypes without any regard for their actual personalities.

111. Why did they dislike it? I enjoyed it, but I've heard some valid criticisms of it too. It's more eye candy than anything in my opinion. But what gloriously fun and beautiful eye candy it was.

124. I think the show kind of ships them too, actually.

141. Aw, I love them as bosom buddies. They're so awesome!

147. You're not accustomed to hot presidents? Clearly, sir or madame, you don't remember the sexiness that was William Howard Taft.

143. No offense, but you really shouldn't be buying a game for the potential fandom. That's just silly. And to further not offend you, the game wasn't that hard. It really isn't. The only thing you're right about is that the camera is really close to Sora. That's it. Other than that, it sounds like you're just trying to find excuses to hate a game you weren't good at.

161. Hah, first thing I thought of was Saya No Uta (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saya_no_Uta).

It's okay, I do too and I don't even like their show.

[identity profile] jessi.livejournal.com 2009-02-16 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
118. I wouldn't really say that I hate yaoi, I'm just not into it, you know? It's a personal preference, I just can't get into same-sex pairings, that's just me. But it's nice to hear that someone else doesn't like yaoi either. Sometimes I feel so alone, most of my female friends where I live like it XD;

123: YES!! WILL!! Both my mom and I, who love Alias, do the same exact thing!

[identity profile] sparklywalls.livejournal.com 2009-02-16 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
117. I think I was shipping it before that scene but the scene made me ship it even more!

144. I was out of the Bat fandom for YEARS and slotted back in quite sneakily about 18 months ago. To some people I was probably a relative newbie but honestly I haven't had that many problems. I'm glad you've found out that most of us are just happy we've got more people to talk to!

151. The Genii annoyed from the start! I love SGA so very much but one of my problems with it has always been that the villains are a bit weak for me. Michael was ok to start with but he soon outstayed his welcome. The only villain I still liked until the end was Todd and he was technically not much of a bad guy anymore.

OP 151

(Anonymous) 2009-02-16 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
The problem with creating such powerful bad guys in a long running series is that after a while they have to become less powerful. They have to, or the story wouldn't work. There are ways around it but it's hard to do when you come in at it from a position of weakness. Eventually you have to either destroy them some how, or they have to become weaker relative to you. Or they dominate you like in Terminator.

And I think after a while writers like to make the bad guys more level, or they end up making them pathetic (aka the Kazon in Voyager).

The Reavers in Firefly are greatly done because they're not villians due to power but because of sheer fear of their nature, their complete inhumanity and barbarity, they're figures in the mist that don't show up much but when they do they let loose and FEAR.

The Wraith don't do that. The Genii have never done that, though they were they were better in season one. But they've been defeated so many times and too easily to be good bad guys. Michael too.

Todd works because he was never supposed to be a bad guy per se. He was in a position where he could turn on you, and you feel his danger but he chooses to put that aside (a show of power on his side). He isn't a friend per se (though he has a bond with John) but he isn't an enemy. Just very very dangerous.

If that ramble made much sense. I think I'll shut up now too, lol.

101. I wouldn't say I judge people (but maybe I do, subconsciously). Otherwise, I agree completely with this secret. Honestly, sometimes I wonder if the more obsessive type of shipping isn't damaging to the viewer/reader experience, because you end up seeing everything through a filter of the pairing in question, and miss out on a lot of the other stuff that's going on because that doesn't fit into happy ship-land.

101 OP

(Anonymous) 2009-02-17 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
you end up seeing everything through a filter of the pairing in question, and miss out on a lot of the other stuff that's going on because that doesn't fit into happy ship-land.

That's exactly the reason behind the secret :-) I didn't use to have such a knee-jerk reaction to Extreme Shipping, but lately I'm involved into fandoms where I'd like to, you know, discuss the show and all I can find is squeeage about this or that ship :-C I mean, fine, but what about ALL THE REST?
