You should go on and make one. I haven't found any communities geared towards...less mature HL2 love.

OUCH. That's harsh. I didn't think he was all that bad, really. Actually, the english was pretty great compared to some other ones english dubbing has ruined.

Absolutely agree. I cried my eyes out when it was first shown, and I know I would again if I ever watched it.

Aw, I loved Ghost Hunt. The first arc was probably the most tedious to get through, though (I don't really remember that well, tbh), but most of the arcs after that were pretty awesome. If you and your club can make it past the first part, hopefully you'll all be pleasantly surprised.

He does cheesy/over the top when it's called for. He is a VERY good actor, onstage and onscreen when the writing calls for it. DW/TW is cheesy as all hell, so he plays it up.

Go watch DeLovely or Putting it Together and then tell me that he's not a good actor.

As for the singing, he's not great at choosing the intense songs. Like acting, he can take a good song and make it great.

He's a wonderful entertainer, all around.

[identity profile] lionessvalenti.livejournal.com 2009-02-20 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Mmmmm, Putting it Together. It doesn't get much better than (no pun intended) putting together my two favorite British theatre actors and have them singing Sondheim. It was like sex on a dvd.

I wish the choreography for Live Alone and Like It wasn't so horrendous. But that's not John's fault. :)

104. I don't get that manga either, I wouldn't have been as bothered by the things you listed if the story and dialog didn't feel so formulaic.

140. There's a live action version of them!?! Why did I not know this and where can I find out more!

146 I believe they all went to who_anon. Except you said they were entertaining, I might be thinking of a different bunch of idiots.

159 I'm afraid there's no cure. You'll thank us one day.

165 Oh, I think I have a pretty good idea of what they'd do to you if you failed to describe John Barrowman in less than rapturous language. Best to remain anonymous for your physical safety.

ROFL. Something tells me you're just a little bitter that you're not as good at cosplaying (whether that is just being artistic, or sewing, or whatever) as you want to be. Maybe you just don't have the guts to cosplay? Or you're too shy?

Let me tell you something. Everyone in my cosplay group has graduated from college and most of our group makes around 60k a year (we're all only in our mid-20s so you know, that number will only go up from there).

To address the picture in your secret, that gal is cosplaying a videogame character. All but two of our cosplay group works in the videogame industry, and even the other two (I am one of those) have done work in that industry at one time or another.

I don't know which part of the industry you're in (anime or video game), but you must be working with a bunch of assholes because most the people I know in the game industry think cosplay is pretty cool.

Of course, like you, we put our money toward our education before we did much hard core cosplay, (and I commend you for doing that because that takes a lot of dedication, good for you ^_^) but now we have money and we like to spend our time doing something fun and creative.

Unlike you, we're not condescending and judgemental, and we have lots of fun using our hard earned money (from, you know, our careers... you know the jobs we got with our education) and traveling out of state going to other cons, cosplaying, and seeing new places.

I love my friends. I love cosplaying. And nothing you say is going to change that. I just think it's sad that you feel the way you do.

You sound really, really defensive. I mean, several of the people responding to that secret sound defensive, but you're actually... defending yourself. Do you believe the secret maker was specifically talking about you? Seriously curious here.

141. When I saw this secret I pretty much skimmed the rest of the post so I could comment more quickly. And I never do that.

I haven't seen it in years, but I love that movie so fucking much and am sad/confused that it doesn't have more of a fandom.

105. I don't know the guy in the secret, but I sympathize with the Joe Flanigan aspect. Mmmmmm Joe Flanigan.

157. I've found RDJ hot in all of his roles, including Lincoln Osiris. And Kirk Lazerus. And in the fake trailer. He's just a hot man.

128, 141, 143

[identity profile] orangesparks.livejournal.com 2009-02-20 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
128. Dude, this movie freaked me the. fuck. OUT. as a kid. Combined with the Goosebumps book 'Piano Lessons Can Be Murder' and this B-flick called 'Waxwork 2: Lost In Time', ohhhh, man - sleep did not come so easy for me. I had this irrational fear of evil severed and disembodied hands.

141. Ahahaha, that movie SLAYS me.

143. CHRISTIAN TESSIER WAS MY FIRST CRUSH. I was obsessed with him ever since I first saw him as that asshole kid in the pilot episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark?, and the fascination only grew stronger with Goosebumps and The Tomorrow People. I started watching BSG just for him! (And I was seriously about to post a Megabyte/Jade secret, but looks like you beat me to it. <33 So much love for them. I shipped Adam/Lisa, too.)

OP 143

(Anonymous) 2009-02-20 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
OMG! ♥ YAY MORE CHRISTIAN TESSIER LOVE! I always would go all "squee it's Megabyte!" when I saw him in that Are You Afraid of the Dark episode, too. I recently downloaded all five series of TP and have been rewatching them like crazy. So much nostalgia. Megabyte/Jade FTW!

Oh my god, me too. It made me think of alter!Roy being some anti!nazi and then made me sad because he wouldn't be friends with nazi!hughes. :F I went to see it in the theater and giggled about the resemblance the whole way home, though.

132 - Don't know who they are, but lol @ Zoom In Zoom Out background.

147 - Wow. Fuck you kindly. Get the hell out of fandom, you're too far in--regardless of your opinion on the dub, it is not and NEVER will be more important than someone's life.

Stay hidden, anon. Greg has been a good friend and you have no idea what it was like for those of us who were actually there.

168 -...I see. You're under the assumption that more money = happiness? No really, how do you judge quality of life? A high-paying job? Enjoying your hobbies? It really doesn't have to be one or the other, as I've managed to do both, but the way you've worded your secret implies that your high-paying industry job gives you some sort of entitlement to laugh at your friends behind their backs. How much do you have to make before you feel secure enough to laugh at them to their faces?

[identity profile] kroe-quette.livejournal.com 2009-02-20 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Damn, what an asshole.
Or, as Shakespeare would say: Thou art essentially a natural coward without instinct.

[identity profile] weallfallout.livejournal.com 2009-02-20 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
001. I don't know about all the other HL2 fans, but I'm pretending the games don't exist because it dulls the pain of THE LACK OF HL2: EP.3 ANNOUNCEMENTS. ;_______; There is a hole in my heart. It is in the shape of a Lambda symbol.

Anyway, fans will probably start popping up more once we get more HL2-related news.

104. I think the major themes of Loveless are growing up and sexuality, which it explores in interesting ways. But I could be wrong, since I haven't read it for more than half a year. Maybe it's going in a different direction now. :x

147. Holy shit, someone needs to step away from the computer. Unless someone ripped out the subtitle button on your remote, no one is forcing you to watch the dub. And that is still no reason to wish harm or even death on someone. Anime is not serious business.

160. I didn't either. I disliked it, but you know who probably liked it? Little kids. Which was probably who she wrote it for.

[identity profile] thickets.livejournal.com 2009-02-20 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
101. Yeah, what the hell Valve. They keep promising us updates on Ep 3 and Portal 2 and NADA.

Dude, I'm the hugest fanatic ever! To the point where I RP three-plus VALVe characters? It is an awesome universe, and I love it to pieces.

So you're really not alone, OP. <3
