115: This is a very good idea. It would definitely be interesting.

155: I ship Prentiss/Reid, but not Morgan/Prentiss because I ship Morgan/Garcia.

165: I'm kind of with you. Freema is gorgeous but her acting leaves a lot to be desired. (though I am fond of Martha...sort of)

166: I thought the exact same thing! Penelope is my favorite (Hanners comes in at a close second though).

I love both Hanners and Penelope, and I really think that the artist completely ignores how much better they are than the main cast.

...okay, the secret itself is awesome (JOBS TOPS!), but--did you just make a TYPOGRAPHY joke? in [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets?

104: I think it's a terrible casting choice and I like the actor just fine. However Holmes is an egotistical drug addict.

106: I think anybody who "worships" somebody for creating a movie/televison show/book etc universe is just setting themselves up for disappointment. They might be cool people but they're still freaking people.

109: Awww, I think we all want that OP.

115: LOL! I like this idea.

126: Okay I'll bite. Are you?

132: So you lied about not liking it, so you like it? Why in the hell would that have to be a secret? What kind of strange friends do you have?

134: Daria is awesome.

137: I'm not even all that girly and I agree with you. I loved Disney. I would've tried to own everything. XD You want a secret? I want to buy the stuff now.

143: But but...Megas XLR was awesome!

167: Ouch.

169: I'd worry if it becomes an obsession. Otherwise eh.

162. So... Unless you're Japanese, you have no right to enjoy the culture, or to actively seek to learn more about it? Good to know. Out of curiosity, do you feel the same about people taking interest in any culture which isn't their own (i.e. an American being fascinated by British history/literature) or just Japanese?

if you're interested, he hangs around with the sixth doctor and companion, evelyn smythe in the big finish audio play, 'bloodtide'. it also has silurians and it's... quite good, actually, though there are some terrible accents and whilst some of the stuff with evelyn talking to darwin is really nice the play has some dubious things to say about evolution: doctor who style. but still - worth listening to, i think.

104

[identity profile] mahkia.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he plays characters who are egotistical drug/drinking addicts... He doesn't MAKE them that way; that's what they ARE. And actually, I can't think of all that many that he's even played. Seems to me you're basing this mostly on RDJ-based Iron Man fandom, and frankly, that movie got more people into Marvel itself anyway, so what's the harm in new fans? Unless you're an elitist dick.

[identity profile] vivalana.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
104. Yes, Holmes is an egotistical drug addict, but he’s also so much more. XD And I’m torn over Jude Law. On one hand, it will help dispel the image people have of Watson being a Nigel Bruce-esque dunderhead, but on the other hand… the fangirls. The inevitable syrupy descriptions of cerulean eyes and raspberry lips. Oy.

106. I literally have been watching/reading Whedon since Buffy first premiered when I was eleven. His style had a huge part in the development of my own. In a way, that actually ruined Whedon for me. Well, I can still enjoy him, but I also find his “twists” coming from a mile away, and when someone relies on the gut-punch for emotional resonance as much as Whedon does, this is a problem.

Also, every week someone says “Even a half-assed Whedon show is better than anything else on TV” and I have to scream because No! NO!

109. I want a Butters plushie more than air.

122. I loved it way too much, too. “It’s not real person slash if it’s REAL”!

137. As long as you believe in equal rights for men and women, then you are a feminist. Feminism is about empowering women and giving them choices, not stuffing them in cold metal boxes. You wear those girly, pretty dresses, tiger. Wear them with pride.

167. Gah, I’m sorry. I don’t think it’s any easier to make fandom friends as it is in real life. I guess it depends on your definition of “friendship,” too.

[personal profile] pensive 2009-02-21 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
It will be nice to have a true Watson for a change, and not some fat bungler dufus.

[identity profile] heather.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
164. I wonder what fandom you're talking about, because I'm feeling the same way about one of mine. So far I'm nowhere near wanting to leave the fandom, though. I'm just wanting to start writing in it, and participating in discussions and such, so there can be more of the stuff I want to see. XP

It's kind of a vicious cycle -- if there's one thing that people get obsessed about above everything else, then that thing becomes all that gets written and all that ever gets recced, then people who aren't into that character/ship/whatever start feeling marginalized and so they shrink back, and they write less of what they like, and ... there continues to be less of it.

For me it's strange because one of my fandoms is so freaking big that there's always a niche for whatever you want to read, but my newest one is really small and monopolized by this one thing. And if I don't want things to always be that way, then I should stick around and add to the numbers of people who want to see something different. Fandoms die without the actual fans there to support them. You know?

130. It's not an uncommon writing exercise even outside of fandom. Also, it's a lot harder for me to write something that short than it is to write a bigger fic, personally.

157. It's not an unusual fantasy for women actually. Not my bag, but not unheard of either. Not in the least

104 - I am a huge fan of his, but I am totally with you on fans who will only think the movie is good because he's in it. What's worse is so many of them will have never read a Holmes story (wtf they're mostly FANFIC length) and won't know if he's doing the character right.

130: Some people actually do write amazing drabbles. It takes a lot of talent to say a lot with so few words, so I have a lot of respect for people who do it well. You're right in that a lot of people produce crap, but that just makes the good ones all the more extraordinary.

137: Feminism and pretty dresses are not mutually exclusive. Wanting to dress like a princess does not make you a bad feminist. It would make you a bad feminist if you thought all girls should ONLY dress like princesses.

102. Why? I actually tend to prefer character that I wouldn't have to change my hair color/wear a wig to play.

107. People like that worry me. I mean the stalkerish behavior and all. OOC behavior in fic is annoying too, though. I mean... it's one thing to explore the darker side of the source material. I like some of the more "gritty" pieces in my various fandoms that really have that potential. But writing characters OOC to do it... just no.

153. Sokka's dad was pretty hot. Just saying ;D

157. OP, don't worry! So long as you only like it in fiction and RP scenarios, that's just fine! It's nothing to be ashamed of (:

162. So Japan is such a super special country that nobody can be interested in it if they're not a "weeaboo"? Is that what you're saying, OP? Because I'm sorry, I just don't think it is that special.

166. Penelope is fun, but I really like Hanners. And I want the "worry shirt."
