138: If you did, I think you'd find the answer to just about anything would be "take a nap" or "drink some tea and think about it".

Fandom: Ship wars, wank, cosplay, badfic, etc.

You really want to do something like that to a gorgeous book like Lolita? What the hell?
Also, the only people I've seen who only like it for the "LOL PEDO" are losers on 4chan. And even then, I'm sure they do appreciate the brilliance that is Nabokov's writing if they read thw whole thing through, since the book isn't even very explicit.

reply to 104, sorry.

146. Lol, “such a vagina”. Best phrase in a secret ever.

Why pretend you saw it in the first place? This secret makes no sense.

The death of Bambi's mom didn't even phase me as a child. The death that always gets me crying is Mufasa from Lion King. But I totally agree about Littlefoot's mom. :[

Isn't it kind of pathetic for someone to feel like this matters that much to them? I mean, it's understandable when the writers crave comments, but on the rare occasion when I do leave a review, it's not like I then stick around and wait to see if the author takes notice - I just move on to the next story. I see feedback as some sort of validation for effort put into something, and I'm sure the fic writers feel the same way. What validation am I supposed to derive from their replies to my comments? That I read and enjoyed a story on my own time, which I happened to like enough to leave a short, pointless thanks? Dude, sometimes I get LJ notifications weeks after the fact where someone's like "Thanks for commenting!", and I don't even remember what I'm being thanked for at that point.

Sure, if I put in the effort to write a long, constructive review - and it's a rare story that could get me to do that - then I would probably expect a reply, if only because the other person would likely want to address some of the points I make in my comment, and that's cool. But when I see a story with over 3 pages of comments, most of which are pointless one-liners, I know off the bat the writer wouldn't have the time or creativity to do more than copy+paste "Thanks!" into every reply anyway. With that kind of cop out in store for me, why would I even anticipate a reply?

Didn't mean to go on babbling for so long, but reading some of the comment threads about this secret really gives me the impression the OP needs to take a chill pill.

112 - I feel you, bb.

126 - YES YES YES A THOUSAND TIMES YES. That film was so unbelievably awesome, and I have been waiting on fandom since!

140 - I saw the film and thought it was an amazing story. It definitely needs fandom.

154 - I don't even pretend to have seen it. I tell my friends to fuck off whenever they judge me for not seeing it.

115. OP, you are not alone! Where's the fandom?

130. I want an Olive/Emerson spin-off, please. I love them, but Ned and Chuck can go off somewhere and have their saran wrap kisses while Olive and Emerson bring the awesome.

140

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_dahne_/ 2009-03-06 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you, yes! Damn but that is a bizarre, tragic, amazing book. I once heard someone say they thought it was sexy. Sob.

[identity profile] avantgardenism.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Srsly? Maybe you're just looking in the wrong place. I don't now about lj "fandom". But there's plenty of elitist-lit-wankers who think Nabokov is God. :D

(I say wankers not because I disagree with them, but because 99% just say that because it's trendy. Like Edgar Allen Poe. -_-)

116. Nathan will die, possibly, but doesn't he die at the end of every season? (Hauling off radioactive!bro into space, getting shot by future!bro...maybe he should just stop hanging out with Peter.)

127. Have you made all the Nick/Normund posts as of late?

136. Gonna paint your wagon,
gonna paint it fine,
gonna use oil-based paint
because the wood is pine

I, at least, make fun of it because of the Simpsons references.

116 op

(Anonymous) 2009-03-08 12:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I've got $10 on Nathan getting Sylar'd. That seems to be the only way anyone ever dies for good these days, isn't it?

And don't forget being trapped in a building filled with flammable chemicals as doused by arson!bro.... yeah, him and Peter need restraining orders on one another.

What a fabulous book that is, seriously. I don't know, actually, that I want a fandom for it, but a good discussion group would be awesome. Nabokov's writing is so incredible.

103. I know, I felt like the death in TLBT was worse too.

105. THAT MOVIE ROCKS AND SO DOES WILL. But yea they are totally shippable.

112. That bothers me a lot too. At least say thanks!

129. Awww I love Gourry ^^ He's such a sweet guy.

142. I HATE THOSE FUCKING THINGS. Lifeless creepy eyes that are overpriced, and the people who buy them think they need to be worshipped (by them I mean the people and the dolls). *Shudder* But then again dolls scare the hell outta me.

I do too. Just mad at his characterization in the anime, and what the fanbrats do to him.

Yeah, I totally don't do the same thing with Starscream from TFA.

Jesus Christ, 103, are you me? This secret is such a coincidence that it scares me!

On sunday night, my friends and I wanted to watch a touching movie, and we were talking about how "Littlefoot's mother dying is far more traumatic than Bambie's Mom dying" and so we watched Land Before Time.

It was the first time I ever cried in front of my friends. I was actually sobbing. That movie brought back so much nostalgia and sadness that I couldn't contain it.

Hey... are you one of my friends?!

LOL at the bitchy whoever-it-is-that-agrees-with-the-OP-but-claims-that-he/she-isn't-the-OP comments. Take a laxative, seriously.

(Anonymous) 2009-03-06 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, Coraline was originally a book.

So, technically, it was a ripoff of that book.

Props for trying, though. :/

Re: #1 TB.

(Anonymous) 2009-03-06 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Not saying anyone's ripping off anyone else (especially not Neil, God), but I'm pretty sure that episode of BMW came out before Coraline was published.

112

(Anonymous) 2009-03-06 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
112. Speaking as a comment-leaver, not a fic writer or fanartist, I'd rather someone only reply to some of thei comments, even if mine isn't one of them, than reply to all comments.

If I get a reply that's the same "thank you" that a dozen other people got, I feel kind of like the fanartist or writer doesn't really care about individual comments. They're just mass replying to everyone or trying to up their comment count.

But if I see the fanartist/writer only replies to certain comments, like those that give some kind of real feedback, it feels like they care more about what people say, not about how many comments they got.

Maybe that's just me though.

Re: 112

(Anonymous) 2009-03-06 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
This.

I seriously don't need to spark a conversation with every one of my comments. If I just want to say that I read the fic/whatever and liked it, that's what I do, and I don't really care if anything happens afterwards. I'd rather get no reply at all than a meaningless stock reply. And I'd much rather see that the author's paying more attention to concrit.

The amount of venom flying on both sides here is... um, interesting.
