Agreed.

105. I think you're supposed to.

112. Interesting. I struggle with that actually when posting some sort of fan contribution that gets comments. Sometimes I find folks who reply to every comment they get as just trying to spike their comment count and encourage people to fawn over them. So I end up not replying unless there's something specific to reply to instead of just "thanks". Because I don't want to be needy. I feel like if I reply to everything it makes me seem full of myself all "thank you, thank you, my loving public." Heh. It's weird how perception can be so different.

112

(Anonymous) 2009-03-05 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you fucking kidding? People only respond to their comments to up their comment count?? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Some people like to talk to other people and be POLITE about receiving a gift, which is exactly what feedback is. If someone gives you a gift, you're supposed to say thanks. It has nothing to do with being needy or wanting to up the comment count. Jesus Christ.

If it makes you feel any better, he was the only one in a steady, happy relationship for two seasons and I completely shipped them 100%. Unfortunately, they broke up because of circumstance and his current relationship is...cougar-y and more of a joke than anything. Yeah, I don't know how this was supposed to make you feel better.

113. Nice babysitting there. I see that you're setting an excellent example for our future generation.

119. It's too bad that most kids will be obnoxious brats at that age (including me). Maybe if/when you're a mom you will be fortunate to have a soft-spoken child.

121. Pre-PW fandom was always so quiet and calm (I think). And then there was this explosion of whaaaat.

137. Sometimes I just want to see what's so important about OTPs getting together. One day I will lie in my bed going "I cannot move on to the next day without mentally filing all of the canonical subtext between Voldemort and Pikachu" and figure out why it's been so cool to do so lately.

142. Yeah, I personally agree that those dolls have the creepiest eyes ever. Like they're staring into your soul and you kind of wonder if it's going to curse you or something. Oh expensive hobbies.

150. Okay, I swear I've seen that art style in various yaoi manga before.

[identity profile] lipsofpoison.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
112. This is especially bad when someone takes the time to write more than just 'nice fic, i liked it'. It always puts me off too.

135. I have them too, don't worry. I love King Arthur stuff but I have "Mordred's Lullaby" as as about Regulus Black in my head :/

I was afraid of Sunrise making him a Neil clone, but that's not the reason I dislike him. I dislike him because I think he's am asshole. Everyone has their flaws; all of his just rub me the wrong way.

Didn't help that Sunrise did practically nothing with him until the last couple of episodes.

Re: 131

This.

I personally don't mind that he's an asshole (I'm much more squicked by Allelujah's controlling-boyfriend behavior than I am by Lyle's self-centeredness, inferiority complex, and poor judgment). I mind that Sunrise thought it was decent writing to replace a fully-developed character with a look-alike and not bother developing him. It feels too much like they wanted us to accept him as a clone of Neil, when what I really wanted was a fleshed-out character with a related but different take on the issues that shaped his brother.

112. Sometimes, there's just not much to say. I mean, a "thanks" is nice, but sometimes I just don't have the time to go and respond with that to every single "Wow!" "Lol!" "That's Funny!" "Neat!" that I get. That sounds pompous, and maybe it is. I do try to respond if people actually make a sentence or a statement beyond somethng general, but a usually, it really is just a matter of time (doesn't help that for some reason, deviantart pauses for five seconds between every keystroke).
...
Also, I distract easi---ooooh!

All that said...I love comments, but I don't usually give them unless I have something to say. So...*shrug*

130. I'll never understand this weird concept that loving Olive means you have to hate Chuck. What?

135. Lol. I still constantly "Sort" characters and people. It does a good deal to help me understand how to deal with people in real life, though.

136. FRAGGIN WORD! Okay, I don't really care about the slash, but that movie is six different kinds of hi-larious, and I wish people would stop rolling their eyes and backing away if I ever mention it would be fun to watch.
No Name City--Population...drunk.

149. Man, I miss that stupid paper.

152. People...write...virgin!Rose? I like Rose, I like being a virgin, but Rose never ever struck me as one. And, more to the point, Mickey never struck me as someone who would be in a long-term sexless relationship.

re: 152

(Anonymous) 2009-03-05 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
It usually only shows up in badfic, but I've seen several virgin!Rose stories. Occasionally, with really complicated explanations as to why she never had sex with Jimmy (who she lived with!) or Mickey. Often, this includes Mickey character bashing, and all sorts of purple prose about her One Twue Luv with the Doctor. It's one of my absolute HATEHATEHATE pet peeves when it does pop up.

[identity profile] mcwicca.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh hai har, new friend! No seriously, let's be friends. Because that man OWNS me. Don't even worry about finding him attractive. He's got so much swagger that I'd do him in an instant.

I totally understand you, OP, even though I own BJDS. I don't know how people can be so stupid to spend money that they've got laid out for something like college on dolls.
I only ever purchase doll items when I am sure that I have the money for them, and when I know I won't be needing that money for anything else.

One thing, however, is that these dolls do keep most of their value, if not go up in worth over time (if you've got a rare model, something that was discontinued, etc). They are like any other collector's item.

SEIG HEIL VOLKS.

Re: 142

[identity profile] pkbitchgirl.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 12:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Those dolls look cute, though their eyes look a bit creepy at the same time as well. What material are the faces made from?
I'd love to get a custom doll done of my favourite character from one of my fandoms, but he's a non-human and I'm not even sure if they make them non-human. BJD stands for ball-jointed dolls, doesn't it?

Not that I have any money to spend on one. I wish I had $700

The most I spent on a single item is €2000 and he's not an item because he's an albino boa constrictor. He's an investment in a way because he'll be fathering babies for me.

I completely, 100% agree with this. I watched The Land Before Time for the first time in years a few weeks ago, and I freakin' bawled my eyes out during that scene with Littlefoot's mom. Heartbreaking doesn't even begin to describe it.

I know they must have had something a year or so ago, but really.
Cook is with Archie. Can't deny it.

127. Why does everyone write "Norman"? Isn't it "Normund"?

127 OP

I AM TOTALLY WITH YOU OP! Lolita is one of my favorite novels of all time. It is such a beautifully written book, I don't understand why people don't seem to love it as much as I do...and I also hate that it's only going to be remembered (in some circles) as the story of a guy who sleeps with a 12 year old.

111. He isn't tortured. He is a fuck but there is something gentle about him in his characterization. I mean even in tonight's episode there is this self-absorption that is of well... most of the characters of both seasons are like that. Most people are. I think he's a fascinatingly developed character, broken home or not. I mean Freddie acts like he's from some broken home and really isn't.

However, I agree on the part tht I thought the pairing was hot for about one episode just because it was a mindless fuck. I don't understand how people can see it being emotionally anywhere.

130. I always loved Olive better than Chuck... but yes I want Olive with someone that is not Ned completely.

113. Hey, I remember this secret from the first time you posted it. Which was months ago, and I'm pretty sure it used a different image. Funny you should post it again now -- did it not cause enough wank the first time, then?

119. I don't really want children, but I'd love to have a kid like Yotsuba. ... Well, I'd babysit one, anyway.

140. I keep meaning to pick up something by Nabokov because from what I've heard it sounds like I'd like his writing, but I never get around to it. That's the problem with being an English major -- I read so much Serious Literature for classes that on the rare occasion that I read for fun, it tends to be books that I don't have to think about.

146. It is vaguely yonic, isn't it? I never noticed that before.

[identity profile] callmejude.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
103. Mufasa's my most traumatic Disney death. It was the way Simba was nuzzling up to his corpse with tears streaming down his cheeks...freaked me the fuck out. Not to mention I watched the movie so much (whereas Bambi and Land Before Time weren't as prominant in my life - though Land Before Time was awesome, I only watched it a handful of times in my childhood), it got to the point where I was constantly worried that my parents were going to die any minute. I still have to talk myself down from being too afraid to answer a suprise phone call from home.

112. I reply to every single comment I get (even if it's just a "thanks, glad you liked!" - which it usually is, I'll admit), because I'm always so thankful to get comments - I know more people probably read my stuff than comment on it, but I still feel like I only have a small group of fans, and I like them to know I'm thankful for them. <3

130. I just don't understand how anyone could've hated anyone on that show. I agree that Olive deserved her happy ending, too, and she was an awesome and adorable character, but why does liking her mean we have to hate Chuck? Because they both love Ned? That's silly.

135. I do that, too. There was an episode of CSI or something (I wasn't quite paying attention - it could've been any of those forensic-y crime shows, I just know it wasn't Law and Order or Bones XD) on TV the other day, and this cadaver's brain they were studying started dripping this matalic-like silver stuff, my first thought was "unicorn blood!" Harry Potter was a pretty prevalent part of our generation. Nothing to be embarrassed about. ...Too badly, anyway. Haha.
