I like the original significantly more than the remake, but I will admit the second one had some catchy songs. God, I remember watching it when I was little; the only part I got freaked out by was the tunnel scene (because I didn't understand why they had that snake showing up, etc.). I can't blame you though, since while watching it with commentary showing up on the screen it mentioned the movie was actually supposed to be aimed at adults, if I recall correctly.

*helpful* By 'snake', do you mean the giant centipede?

Same here! Michael freaking cried over Victor, at the end there. Now I just need to find some fic...

There's no earthly way of knowing... which direction we are going... there's no knowing where we're rowing... or which way the river's flowing... is it raining, is it snowing... is a hurricane a-blowing... not a speck of light is showing so the danger must be growing... are the fires of hell a-blowing? Is the grizzly reaper mowing? Yes! The danger must be growing for the rowers keep on rowing and they're certaintly not showing any signs that they're slowing!

By which I mean to say, it's SUPPOSED to be creepy as fuck o.o (Although I don't know how you got the paedophile vibes off Wilder - he's much more deranged serial killer, Depp's the paedophile version!) And I must have watched this movie a hundred times as a kid and STILL love it, whereas the Burton version is just... eh.

...Damn, now I want to watch it. Again.

I never got a paedophile vibe of Depp!Wonka, I got more of a "OMG, horrible vile disease-ridden cockroaches running around me, shudder" vibe. He didn't seem to like the kids too much or their parents either

114 - ME TOO. Ever since the Cally episode, I've learned that I cannot trust the 'today on BSG' clip show XD Before then it wasn't too bad, but that episode was the WORST when it comes to spoiling the whole damn episode.

121 - I feel that way about Bakuman :)

159 - Is it bad that it bothers me to see the cast dressed up so OOC? They look fine when they're dressed up by themselves or with one or two others... but ALL of them? (Granted the ladies are looking smoking HOT).

Watchmen is to comics kind of what Final Fantasy VII is to console RPGs, unfortunately. It has its strengths and weaknesses, including some pretty damning flaws, and it doesn't necessarily stand the test of time (improvements in graphics technology have made certain aspects of the visuals in both Watchmen and FFVII obsolete, ferinstance). But when it came out, it was new and different and, for better or worse, it did have a huge impact on the industry. And, of course, if you point out that either of them are a bit dated or that they're not your cup of tea, the fandom will descend upon you like a swarm of angry, nerdy locusts.

Personally, I value Watchmen for the effect it had on comics as a whole, and I think a lot of the things it did were interesting- but it's not something I reread for pleasure. I can totally understand not liking it, though; it sucks that people are being dicks to you for expressing your opinions.
