This secret made my night. "The Lion in Winter" ftw! I've seen both movies, read the play, and researched so much that I found out Christopher Walken played Geoffry once.

ETA: but...I don't think it's that huge a deal if people don't know about it (though I recommend it highly)

Someone already said basically the same thing, but, dude, according to canon, a pairing doesn't have to make sense to happen.

Also, I like it.

103. This is unrelated to the secret, but every time I see that cat I think of Nabiki from Ranma 1/2. That peel looks kind of like her hair, don't you think?

113. I hate the sexist asshole, too. His awesome theme-music can't make up for his toolishness. Plus, his plan was made of stupid.

Re: 103, 113

[identity profile] winter-ruins.livejournal.com 2009-03-14 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Please don't use that icon and say "Toolishness" again. It makes up for all sorts of misreadings.

... Not like it really changes the meaning of the sentence, but I nearly laughed, and then did laugh when I realized I misread it.

I never did finish reading that series. :( Now I am filled with a strange sense of longing! Any downloads of the books anywhere on the internets?

This is belated, but I'm curious - I've never really seen the term used anywhere else, where else is that term used? Ok, apart form describing some forms of interactions in social groups and religion, which is basically a description of the same without the fetishistic dimension.

But what about Simone? I mean, it's hard to get more OTP than having one's last line be to her and be <<À moi, ma chère amie!>> but still, Marat x David = pwn. Very hot pwn. :)

Also, I never had fun in history class before AP US History. After that, I decided to major in history, a decision most likely motivated at least in part by historical slash.

I would geek out with you.

Anonymous because Karin Lowachee is on my flist. I can never admit to writing fanfiction for Warchild because it would seem so pitifully inferior that I would be ashamed.

Re: 141

(Anonymous) 2009-03-14 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
OH YEAH, I wouldn't want to in your place, either. I've had a HELL of a time finding people that have read these books!

[identity profile] queenitsy.livejournal.com 2009-03-14 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
By unfortunate coincidence, I'm a little tipsy right now, but trying to type coherently (sorry for any fail):

Whoever you are, Funkie and I are very glad to have helped. ♥ I almost cried from seeing that secret, and I am sending you good wishes and good thoughts right now. We never thought the fic would be anything more than fun for some people, and that it was really means a huge amount to us, more than I can even say. I am incredibly touched that you took the time to write that, I don't even know how to express it. ♥

(Anonymous) 2009-03-14 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
121. omg, me too, totally. i'm so behind on the episodes, though. i think i have like 4 more to watch before i get caught up. but they are my otp for the show.

OP

(Anonymous) 2009-03-14 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
i really want them to have a lesbian fling. seriously, they've covered nearly every other demographic on that show. where are the lesbians?

101. He's a god of voice acting. ♥

102. Seriously? I love Angela! Maybe that's because I relate to her though. I'd love to hear your thoughts on why you can't stand her, not to start a fight, just curious.

144. Agreed!

106 - THIS? is the most amazing thing EVER. OMG.

135 - im still a bit bitter about that reveal - i felt like it came out of nowhere. i mean, yeah on a certain level i can see it, but at the same time....i dunno, it might have to do with the fact that i was much younger when i first read these, but still. despite everything they were such AWESOME books - i really need to re-read them.

157 - seconded.

(Anonymous) 2009-03-14 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
113. I get annoyed when I'm made to feel like less of a feminist for not immediately hating everyone with the slightest stink of sexism about them.

113 OP

(Anonymous) 2009-03-14 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry you feel that way. It wasn't my intention to try to shame people into hating him or say that ANY GOOD FEMINIST SHOULD HATE HIM or anything like that. It was more of an "I don't like this character, because of this particular trait that I find to be a major turn-off, but the majority of people seem to love him and I find this somewhat frustrating. Also, because the trait that makes me dislike him is a sensitive topic in fandom, I feel I can't mention that I don't like him or why because people may flame me or accuse me of taking things too seriously."

Of course, I didn't phrase it that way, because I didn't think it out that well and because... well, it's fandomsecrets. But yes, not my intention at all to say YOU ARE A BAD FEMINIST IF YOU LIKE CHARACTERS WHO ARE SEXIST. Sorry if I came off that way.

134

[identity profile] herbalriver.livejournal.com 2009-03-14 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
First of all, I don't think they're lesbians because only the fandom does that. Closest thing canon has is Marisa recommending Flandre to Reimu for marriage, and yet Reimu/Flandre is uncommon.

But hell yes, Touhou is one of the reasons I like (or at least more tolerant towards)yuri now.

Especially Yuugi/Parsee.

123. TANYA *wibble*
140. I vaguely understand it but I feel like I'm just getting chinese hw. So. No.
142. I just freakin love those two so much.

113) (Here be T&T spoilers)

[identity profile] pyrasaur.livejournal.com 2009-03-14 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
113) Well, see, I think there are very good thematic reasons for Diegodot making sexist douchebag comments.

In 3-4, Diego put the emphasis on Mia, saying she was the star today. He could have just been like, "LOL I sure am" when Mia referred to him as the star of Grossberg and Co., though. If he actually believed the pretty kitten was inferior, wouldn't Diego just take the case himself instead of walking Mia through it? He clearly trusts that she'll figure out his cryptic hints. He knows she's capable. And doesn't patronizing Mia do an excellent job of getting her fired up and determined to win? I tend to think that Diego was hamming up his chauvinism with Mia's best interest in mind, regardless of how much he actually believed it.

Post-coma is another story. I say that Godot must have severe mental issues from the poison's neurological damage and/or the grief of his whole life falling down around his ears, but even aside from that. The core PW story is of the Feys. The theme is women in power. Diego got involved with the Fey succession battle, fell for a Fey, was robbed of his life by a Fey, and now is fighting on a Fey's behalf because he can't get over his love for her. His macho attitude is ironic, compared to the fact that Diego's role is defined by strong women. That jackass 3-5 comment to Franziska was the lashing out of a very broken man who couldn't stop screwing up. In that context, I don't see how Godot can be taken as enough of a threat to cause anyone offense. He's clearly the pathetic one.

By the end of the game, Diegodot has taken on strong women (and a strong woman's protegé) and gotten his ass kicked in various ways. Even if you interpret Diego's character completely differently than I do, we can agree that he gets his comeuppance, right? No one outright states that he's a sexist jerk, but then again, no one calls Godot a cool guy except Godot himself. Even if he didn't initially respect Mia as an equal, he speaks respectfully to her in 3-5 as "madame attorney" and doesn't use the term "kitten" at all. And just look at how he phrases his confession. He mentions "Mia and I". She's first. She trumps him in the end, and he knows it.

I mean, just sayin'. That's why I love Diego as a character and forgive the stupid stuff he sometimes says.

113 OP

(Anonymous) 2009-03-14 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
You make some very interesting and articulate points, most of which I had never considered. Thank you for that. I'm afraid (it being Friday night) I don't have the brainpower to write up a similarly in-depth response -- sorry! -- but I do appreciate your taking the time to explain all that.

I'd also like to say (though I feel a bit repetitive about it at this point) that it was never my intention to say no one ought to like him, only that I felt like I was the only one who didn't and I found it frustrating, and also that I didn't feel like I could mention that I disliked him or why because I'd get flamed or accused of taking things too seriously. I know I worded the secret in a fairly inflammatory manner; I didn't put a lot of thought into it, I admit. Such is the fandomsecrets way, I suppose. At any rate, I'm sorry for that.
