136. I would rather have some one compliment me on my personality than my physical appearance, to be honest. Unless the person in question is someone who puts an inordinate amount of time and effort into how he or she looks, complimenting someone for being attractive is pretty much like saying, "Wow, you received a favorable roll of the genetic dice! Good job!" Your friends sound awesome; you don't need to feel sorry for them. If they've had to struggle because of the way that they look, then they're most likely stronger and better people for it.

Yeah, sure, everybody wants to be pretty. But many of us who aren't have to grow brains and a personality instead-- both of which will benefit us more in the long term. =)

113: I know that Godot's a sexist, and that his view of women is incredibly backward, and no, I don't agree with him about it. But I still like him as a character. Sexism on an otherwise incredibly badass character doesn't make him automatically unlikeable to me. I understand if it does that for other people, but for me a character can both be likeable and have opinions I disagree with a lot.

Besides, without Godot's awful attitudes towards women, we never would have had that moment where he suddenly stopped calling her "kitten" and started respecting her as Mia, a person and a capable lawyer.

133: What's with all the Yume Nikki secrets lately? I don't want them to stop, they make me happy.

It really was a wonderful game. So many places to explore, with so much thought put into designing the weirdness in all of them. Just out of curiosity, how do you relate to Madotsuki? I hope things work out better for you than they did for her.

Man, this should teach me to spend more than a minute on my secrets so I don't have to go around explaining myself to everyone -- I know I came off as saying "I DON'T LIKE HIM SO NO ONE SHOULD LIKE HIM AND ANYONE WHO DISAGREES WITH ME IS SEXIST!!!" but what I meant was more "I feel like the only person who is bothered enough by this character trait to dislike him and I find that frustrating." I mean, it's always a little frustrating, I think, to feel differently about a character than the majority of the fandom does, and I felt like I couldn't explain why I disliked him without being accused of being oversensitive and taking things too seriously (which, thankfully, has not actually happened).

I can understand liking a character who is flawed or has opinions with which you disagree -- I mean, it's not that the characters I like are all paragons of virtue, it's just that they don't hit the particular buttons that put me off of a character. I know it's a very subjective thing.

TL;DR I'M SORRY I DIDN'T MEAN IT THAT WAY?

152. Is Torchwood your first fandom? Every fandom I've been involved with had one or two pairings that were huge, and if you liked a small pairing you had to look for it harder.

As for the quality, I've read really bad Gwack, Towen, Gowen, Gwrhys, Randy too, the only reason you see more bad Janto fic is because it's the biggest pairing in the fandom. Just logic.

I'd be happy if fics in 178 parts would disappear, I'd love it if only really good writers would ever write fic of any pairing and post it to the communities, but that's my problem, not theirs. Me being a bit elitist, that's all.

I could easily be wrong, as someone who watches the show but only observes/lurks in the fandom, I think it's more just the neverending parading of Jack/Ianto as a glorious example of canon slash, plus the general view that if you don't want them together then you're probably homophobic. I mean, I personally don't have a problem with Jack/Ianto's canon-ness (and absolutely prefer it to Jack/Gwen), but even I get tired of people saying I have to love them. Or just assuming that everyone loves them.

It can be a problem with any canon pairing, really, it's just that if, for example, you don't ship Simon/Kaylee and instead prefer Simon/Jayne, or don't ship Clark Kent/Lois Lane because you prefer Clark Kent/Lana Lang or Clark Kent/Lex Luthor, you don't get accused of homophobia. When a canon pairing is slash and it's not your preference, though, you do.

Or it could just be because Jack/Ianto dress better. *shrug*

I like CR mostly because there's people I enjoy talking to there. But, there are a lot of jackasses there as well. I just try to ignore them. I stopped watching after the first two episodes. I may or may not catch up with the rest later, but so far, I KNOW Joss can do better, and this is not his best work. I don't know if Fox has their hands in too deep that they won't let Joss' creativity run wild, or something else, but...I'm just sadly not impressed. Especially after Firefly, and Dr. Horrible.
