Re: ADHD question
Hey! I just started the process in the past year
(Anonymous) 2022-02-01 02:12 am (UTC)(link)So my next set of tips are going to be veeeeery specific to the US, which may not help you:
If you have a regular therapist, talk to them about it. They may be able to do a preliminary assessment and/or help refer you to people who can do assessments. Some psychiatrists (and psychologists) do both assessments and medicine (or DBT, CBT, or ADHD coaching in general), but in my state, I had to get referred to get assessed and then find someone who specializes.
(Note: you can have your regular therapist and an ADHD specific therapist that you use mostly for ADHD related stuff. They just shouldn't really overlap too much, and you need to be open with both of them broadly about what topics you're covering with the other)
If you do get a large assessment, it can take a while. Also, be sure it is pre-authorized by your insurance, otherwise, you'll have to do a lot of back and forth with the billing department of your assessment group and the insurance to avoid paying a huge bill you should have never been charged. And that's assuming it's covered. Fuck the US Health system, honestly. Also, apparently, this may have just been a problem with the group that bought out the people my assessor worked under. He was great though.
So, the assessment itself can take a few hours. It depends. It involves some self-reporting (like, "does this statement apply to you a lot, a little, not at all" kind of thing) and some objective cognitive testing.
You will at some point be asked about how you acted as a kid, probably. This is because ADHD is a cognitive disorder and will show in some aspects in childhood. If you can, try to talk to parents/relatives/friends who knew you as a kid. People who were adults at the time, preferably.
If you're in college/university in the U.S., great news! You can take full advantage of your school's resources. Counseling, prescription management, the works.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-01 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)I was pretty convinced I had ADHD since I have ALL the symptoms, but turns out I have Bipolar Disorder, which can mimic and/or have comorbidity with ADHD, but the treatment and the cause is very different. Take care!
What movie should get a direct sequel to the first one that ignores the 4 bad ones that came after?

Let's just skip over Age of Ultron, Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame completely.

Re: What movie should get a direct sequel to the first one that ignores the 4 bad ones that came aft
(Anonymous) 2022-02-01 08:11 am (UTC)(link)I'd also say Matrix but really,I just thought the first movie worked well as a standalone and wouldn't have needed any sequels.
The Hobbit. The first movie was okay/the least bad of the lot but they should have made a second movie as a sequel at most.

I've always been an awkward introvert and didn't have friends, but what I had was an extrovert brother with friends who didn't mind having me around, and so that was pretty much my social circle in my late teens. I was usually the oldest around, so sometimes I was the one driving a carload of teenage guys around on weekend nights doing harmless ridiculous stuff.
So one night I was dropping everyone off, and I think my brother must have been dropped off early while I took everyone else home. Last guy in the car with me as we drove back from dropping one friend off out in the boonies was this 6'5" dude, huge wrestling fan, known for doing a dead-on impression of the lead singer of Red Hot Chili Peppers. Which was one of the bands we usually had on in the car at that point, or Smashing Pumpkins, or They Might Be Giants.
I don't know what we had on that night when it was just he and I, but while we were driving along listening in silence to whatever, suddenly he goes "Hey actually, can I put on my favorite radio station?" And I'm like, sure, cool, whatever.
So he puts on this station I'd never heard before - an oldies station, 50s/60s. I didn't know we even HAD an oldies station locally, the signal was kind of faint, but I was like "Dude omg!" because I'd been into the 60s music since the 80s.
...So me and this great big tall wrestler-wannabe dude just drove around in the dark for another hour or so instead of going home, singing along with like the Ronettes and Roy Orbison and the Beach Boys. And when we were with the other guys we would put on the usual stuff again. It was just our weird little secret. :D
