Too many different styles for me to say one way or another. There's a lot of modern anime I don't care for but stuff like Yuri on Ice, Shingeki no Bahamut, or Tiger and Bunny work fine for me.

It may be nostalgia, but I agree with you. I don't watch anime anymore and it's partly because I don't like the character designs. Of course, I know there are different styles but so many fall into a "generic cute" type that just doesn't work for me.

I was around in the 80s and I'm really not fond of how these were animated - they look fine as stills but were kind of jerky and unpleasant to watch in action.
