Same, if only because I'm so tired of the trend of delightedly dunking on everything that was once popular.

Yes, the show has aged like milk. Doesn't make the "nostalgia is actually a moral failing" crew any less obnoxious.

*shrug* I never watched more than an occasional episode of Friends back in the day. I watched the whole series in 2019 (minus the last episode because I choose the ending where Rachel moves to Paris damn it), and I really enjoyed it. Yeah, there are dated aspects. Some of the jokes are a bit yikes. But the basics of what made it a smash hit in the 90's (largely character dynamics and group sympatico) are still solid, IMO.

It's a decent sitcom - not one of the best of its era, but fine - that got worse and also bafflingly more popular as it went along.

I understand the nostalgia behind it though. The 90s were in many ways objectively better than the present, even before you take into account that Friends is only presenting the attractive young white cis perspective on the time period.

it's not likely to be forgotten by the crowd that liked it back then, because that's how nostalgia works. you can dislike it and be annoyed it can get everywhere, but you can't expect people to stop liking what they like.

Both Seinfeld and Everybody Loves Raymond are still going strong in reruns too and I think they are both worse than Friends.

Oh god yes! I watched and loved it at the time but when I bought the DVD set in 2006 it turned out it was already dated and unfunny to me. I’m sick of people assuming everyone watches it on an infinite loop and has every episode memorized. Every day that goes by the show ages worse and I’m especially sick of all the handwaving about how incredibly homophobic it is, amongst other issues.
