I was recently going on an old fandom nostalgia kick and was really shocked to see how few fic survived. All these pre-AO3 fandoms just...gone. And trying to search through old LJ comms in hopes of finding something is too frustrating. I kept finding parts of fic but never the whole.

Try tumblr, there are lots of old skool Phantom fans around on tumblr, and some good writers on AO3.

try phantom nostalgist, I don't think she's blogged in a while but go through her reblogs and you'll find some good modern Phantom fic (she's from the mailing list days).

there's things like POTO Queer Week, Paris Commune Week for fics set in the commune days etc, on tumblr. I'm too high to find tags right now or author names. But um hmm, look up paperandsong, catcorsair, flora-gray, shinyfire... they're all good poto peeps

I find people who hate-watch incredibly boring - if you hate it that much why keep watching? So I don't think there's anything wrong with your reaction.

honestly it seems like your friend has recency bias (there's been a lot of explication of bridgerton recently, and people rightfully keep bringing up how shonda treated tr knight to cover for isaiah washington), but this would annoy me too and i don't like most of the way bridgerton, books or show, works and shonda is a questionable showrunner imo. i don't think you have to go hard on something 24/7.

Nobody enjoys hearing a constant bash of something they enjoy. Fair, justified criticism, sure, and even then... there's a way to deliver it without draining all the energy in the room.

It sucks to feel like you're on the defensive about something you like. The best way I've found is to just side step it. Usually I'm the one who viscerally hates something everyone else in the room likes so I've gotten better about just going "That wasn't really for me" and then quietly making a f!secret about it.

But also? I drop shows/movies/books/series/whatever the second I lose interest. I can always re-read a discworld novel so my time may not be "valuable" but I could be useing it better than hate watching the new Velma cartoon or a Marvel movie I already don't care about. I'm too tired to hate watch.

How does it make you a bad person for disliking overly judgemental people? They're exhausting to talk to and drag down the mood. There's only so much negativity the average person can take, especially when it comes to things they like.

You made it clear you like the show so I don't know why your friend keeps bringing up everything she dislikes about it. She most likely doesn't even realize herself how her behaviour bothers you but still. Maybe gently suggest her to join the part of the fandom that consists of hate-watchers or something.

You don't sound overly judgemental. Judging someone's behaviour and how it's affecting ouselves or a situation is something that we all have to do. It sounds like you've acted in a reasonable way by stating that you like the show and why, and anyone would get tired of constant critisism. Don't be so hard on yourself, you aren't a bad person or a bad friend.

*shrugs* An engagement is a commitment, but it's not that huge. I wouldn't be surprised if they call it off before they actually make it down the aisle. Married at 20 I would side-eye alongside you, though - I grew up in a super Conservative small town, and even the people I went to high school with waited until they were 22-25 to tie the knot. (I am, at 32, an old maid.)
