If you could only watch/read/play 5 sets of things (series, etc.) forever, what 5 would you pick.

Mine:

1. Tolkien
2. Star Wars
3. Doctor Who
4. Babylon 5
5. Sanderson's Cosmere

1. Good Mythical Morning
2. The Lion King
3. Animal Crossing
4. MCU just because there are so many
5. House of Leaves. Took my over a year to read the first time. I can see if I can beat that.

This is so difficult, but maybe:

1. Dance Dance Revolution
2. Maple Story (or some other Korean MMO like that)

And honorable mentions to my favorite manga, my favorite drama CD series and my favorite BL novel, all of which I seem to be the only fan on the English speaking internet so maybe out myself by sharing the titles.

This is so hard! Off the top of my head I've got:

1. The Tillerman cycle
2. Valdemar verse
3. Zelda
4. Muppets

And then I hit decision paralysis.

Definitely Tolkien, definitely Star Trek, definitely Doctor Who. Those are the things I've been fans of since forever, and they're massive sprawling franchises, so it just makes sense.

Past that... maybe Discworld? I think Discworld has some of the books I could reread the most times without getting tired of them. And then for the last choice... can I choose all of Naoki Urasawa's manga as a group? Because I love them but they're also incredibly dense and long and this might be the only way I'd ever finish all of them.

None. And I am serious. I would rather kill myself than subject myself to 5 things forever. Even if I love them. Even though I am on re-watch right now. I like revisiting favorite stuff KNOWING that I can choose to watch/read/listen new things. Starting to hate my favorite show because it's the only show that is? It's hell

1. Shakespeare
2. Sofia Coppola creations
3. Tolkien
4. Guillermo del Toro creations
5. Any and all iterations of Cinderella

Re: 5 things

1. Junji Ito's entire collection of manga (love the style. Rereading it regularly since the early 2000 and never getting tired of it)
2. Law & Order franchise (which is enormous and I rewatch it regularly as it is)
3. Mass Effect saga (long gameplay with different choices to make, aha! I still have to play Andromeda, too!)
4. Dragon Age saga (same as above. I replayed Origins 7 times already and I'm not getting tired of it anytime soon)
5. Lovecraft's stories (useful for creating RPG campaigns and getting inspiration for my spooky drawings and stories)

With this list I would probably only really miss touching other horror manga... Maybe I could cheat and insert also comics and manga that retell Lovecraftian stories... Maybe...

I'm on my last day of the vacation I actively spend all year waiting for because there's nothing else good in my life. It was nice.

I'm sorry nothing else is good, but I am glad you had a nice vacation. I hope the rest of your year goes better than before.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-30 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Earlier this year I had a solo trip planned by coincidence when my life was falling apart. It was much needed. I hope you get to enjoy your last day as much as possible!!! Relax and enjoy your free time!!

Today's good

[personal profile] philstar22 2023-07-29 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
What good thing happened today (or this week if nothing today)?

I may have a migraine, but my cat is currently laying on top of my head, purring. I think she knows. She always seems to know just what I need.

My new passport arrived in the mail a month ahead of schedule. Now I'm feeling quite a bit more relieved about going to Europe in September.

I've heard that's a folk belief in Russia? That some cats can tell when people have headaches, and will lay down on you and try to get rid of it in their mysterious cat ways.

I'm happy for you. Not all cats can do it, but I've met a few that are good with headaches, and yeah. Makes such a difference.

I got a lot of compliments at work about the games I've been organizing and hosting for our monthly meetings this past week when we had our meeting. I get a lot of joy from creating games and hosting them. It's also so nice to know that my coworkers enjoy the games! I remember how fun it was to take a break from work and just play a few silly games with my coworkers on the company's dime when I was first starting out. LOL I sometimes think that had I become a teacher I would have been good at it (but only so much, IDK if I'd be a good or fair grader and I'm not good at committing so much time to watching after kids in a day, I'd get anxious having to care for so many kids and for so long! a whole schoolyear helping attending to every student's special learning needs and growth?!).

Today I got to eat some really good chocolate. It makes me feel good too that I watched a video yesterday where a comedian was eating chocolate chips for baking as their snack because I do that too. I used to bake but depression and the space of the house are just uninspiring for my baking sparks, so I'm going to eat the chocolate chips.

What are your favorite milk alternatives?

(Anonymous) 2023-07-29 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't drink milk. It makes my tummy upset. I mostly drink almond milk but am thinking of trying some other types. So what is your favorite milk alternative?

Re: What are your favorite milk alternatives?

(Anonymous) 2023-07-29 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I like oat milk because it’s not as watery as almond and soy milk.

So, I can drink milk and I really like it. I have tried alternatives just because they're supposed to be better for you, but I hate them all. They taste nothing like milk, the consistency is nothing like milk, recipes don't come out right, etc etc. All this to say, I drink Darigold Fit Milk, which is actual milk with the lactose neutralized. It can legally advertise as lactose free. I drink it because it's low sugar and high protein. Might be worth a go for you, unless you have a milk allergy.

I really like how creamy potato milk is. It's not always easy to find tho.

Re: What are your favorite milk alternatives?

Pure A2 cow's milk doesn't give my brother any problems, while A1 (which is pretty much any kind that doesn't specify it's A2 only) milk sometimes makes him sick. My wife often can't deal with cow's milk, but she tolerates goat's milk perfectly: it tastes a little stronger and has more vitamin A.

If you're looking for plant milks, IME almond milk is the most flavorful and coconut milk makes the velvetiest baked desserts. In everything where you don't really need a "dairy" taste, you just need a substitute ingredient, overnight-soaked cashews are low fuss and can be pulverized even in a weak blender. But I've heard of people developing tooth complaints on vegan diets that they attribute to overconsumption of nuts and seeds via imitation milks, because it's easy to drink a higher volume of nuts than you would eat. Especially if you miss milk products. Something to watch out for.

The only imitation milk I outright avoid is soy. It tastes synthetic and upsets my stomach. Hope this helps.

GNC how, and faves?

(Anonymous) 2023-07-29 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Inspired by the secret about a woman character who may or may not qualify as gender non-conforming, depending on how rigidly feminine you expect her to be, I want to know what other nonnies' takes on "gender non-conforming" here look like! Bonus points for either things you've seen or things you do that seem particularly out-there, compared to percieved social expectations.
