I'm genderqueer and I hate those neo pronouns. I appreciate the idea behind it, but so far all options suck. I'm all for adding an option but until we can come up with something good I'd rather stick with he/she/they.

I didn't mind the Spivak pronouns when I ran across them in The Joy of TeX (of all things!) but they never caught on.

I feel like I need to find that one post by the German on Tumblr whose pronouns are all in German but are basically "he/him/his" and how the hatred against neopronouns caused someone to say he was disrespecting trans people by... Listing his pronouns in his native language.

Really drives home the point of how performative and uninformed the hatred against neopronouns is, and how it falls in line with 'gotta look like a good trans to the TERFs.'

I don't *hate* them and I fully understand the need of expanding on common use language to help society shift into a more open mindset when it comes to the complex spectrum of gender identity.

...I also am an ESL and whenever I encounter neopronouns in fics it always *immediately* throws me out of the story because I have an extra degree of difficulty in adjusting and trying to parse which pronoun goes where and it becomes all I can think of and I end up not actually paying attention to the plot, whoops.

Although perhaps this would happen anyway even if english *was* my first language. Idk.

I think I'd be an easier time if neopronouns were more 'set in stone', so to speak, but then again that would just be that more classic 'they/them/theirs', wouldn't it?
