You can say this for every writer in the world who does do that, then?

"No" really doesn't give us any sort of point.

That depends. While I agree partly, like, I don't support rape, and I hate writing it until absolutely necessary where it has to be, I know people who don't like rape who can write it with ease and realistically. Even so, I'm kinda evasive about it but that doesn't necessarily mean I'll bash whoever does it.

While that's a bad example to use, the fact remains that there has to be SOME tolerance for the subject matter, or you wouldn't be writing it at all. Just saying.

You're doing it wrong, son. You're either with them or against them. Make your choice, there's no middle ground.

But all you said was No, so it's hard to deceifer what point you were trying to make O_o

Was it really that hard to "decipher" what point she was trying to make? o__O

That's retarded.

Does anyone know what fundamental attribution error is here? Or cognitive bias? Anyone?

Does she know who and what 'real gay people' are? Homosexuality is a sexual preference, it is not a personality trait. You can be campy and feminine and heterosexual. It just stands out when a gay man is because of what TV has raped into our heads.

what the fuck?

way to go to project onto text that really leaves NO ROOM for creative interpretation.

If you're like "I hate/dislike/am afraid of gay people but whatever, they can do what they want, I won't stop them, they can be on my tv shows and my neighbours and that, but... they're *so* going to hell/They are *so* gross and disgusting and perverted/they really creep me out" then yes, that's not tolerance. Not that I'm saying you think that, that's just an example.

[identity profile] longlongwaytogo.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Ah good I see you did understand what I meant. :) Yay.
I wonder what would happen if I said "I tolerate asians" or something. *sigh*

I'm with the original commenter, here. Writing about something in fiction is different from seeing it IRL. The concept does freak some people out, for religious or non-religious reasons. Yeah, I can see how homophobia is bad, but 100% tolerance isn't going to happen anytime in the next century.

[identity profile] ew-younerd.livejournal.com 2007-04-07 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
No one is expecting 100% tolerance. That's like saying you can't rant on how fucked up murder or violence is just because it's unrealistic that it will ever cease to exist.

yet they have no problems capitalizing on their popularity in fandom by writing about something THEY HATE.

here. let me reword that for you.

"I'm a BNF, known for my Characters of Color fics and fanart.

My secret?

I hate black people."

Writing about something in fiction is different from seeing it IRL!
