I came across this early 90s manga. The back cover said:

"The erotically charged saga of political corruption, the yakuza crime syndicate and two handsome, ruthless men"

I was very disappointed to discover it wasn't yaoi!

I hate that the PR/press stuff seems to be integral part of the Heated Rivalry fandom. I don't like that stuff. I'm not here for the actors, I'm here for the characters and the show.

I’m not in this fandom, but my slightly more specific gripe is that it’s not just PR, but PR mainly about the actors’ lives or interpersonal dynamics on set.

I’m much happier when it’s PR more focused on the actors’ ideas about the characters or more technical behind-the-scenes making-of stuff.

This is one of those times where I have a completely different fandom experiences as every one else, apparently. This really isn't an issue for me. I see way more people complain about the fandom's apparent parasocial obsession with the actors than any actual parasocial behaviour from fans.

There does seem to be a great amount of focus on the actor's appearances. I'm glad they get their day in the sun, but I do not need updates of every single photo shoot, photo shoot bts and insta post.

And not to belabor the point we discussed a few days ago, but I'm also heartily sick of endless posts about what amazing actors they are, how well they know their characters, and all the great acting choices they made. They're doing a good job, absolutely, but the breathless gushing gets ridiculous at times.

i feel like it's more of a "look at these guys! can you believe they were nobodies like three months ago? insane! they're carrying a torch at the olyumpics! how nice. when is the second season coming out?" lol like everyone is just proud of them i guess?

but also i am aware that there are some darker corners to the fandom. mainly whatever is wrong with the people hating on francois for.... existing?

Not sure if you or our lovely Secret Maker made this secret, but I'm guessing by the chosen images that you mean that most of the jokes are that they're all about traditional straight white couples?
About watching them however; I listen to about every single one every winter because my mom's obsessed with them. And yes, they're pretty much all the exact same. Mostly including women who give up their jobs for love, (though less in the most recent years) and with the same plot of "learning to love christmas', 'reuniting with family and your true love', 'snowed in', ect.

So basically while the casting is more diverse, the stories are exactly the same. Most of the old jokes still work OP, don't worry.

Sometimes I think about making a Discord for F!S. I like reading the personal posts and updates and think it'd be fun to have more for in between posts.

But then I realize that A. it might take what little conversation we have away, B. I don't know how you'd keep the trolls out, and C. I don't really like Discord.

I know James Doohan was Canadian, and Nick Meyer and Gene Rodenberry American, but it still super bugs me that Scotty was not playing "Flowers of the Forest" during Spock's funeral in "Wrath of Khan". It should have been "Flowers of the Forest", honestly it should.
