If it was 20 years ago maybe the author was a teen or something? Sounds pretty typical of that age and era

(Anonymous) 2026-03-28 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, that's a tough one, OP.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-28 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I really find secret and picture combo hilarious, because art here is Andre Butzer, quite decent contemporary expressionist.

Anyway. I feel you, OP. Sometimes people are nice, but their works are just not good and it's awkward af

As someone in my 40s who finally has the confidence to do the same, I say more power to you.

I am in my 40s and cringe is dead, whatever.

They get very mad when they realize you don't give a shit if some rando in the internet calls you weird. I always thank them.

/shrug I mean... sure, but 20 years ago they were probably a teenager and had a type. More diversity and range would've been nice, but not all teens are blessed with that, on account of being so young.

I'm late 30's and now I want to do this too! I feel like I'm too obsessive and perfectionist, though. It's not enough to just do a character-inspired outfit, I need exactly the right items and I need to dye my hair and do my makeup to look more like them, too. My lack of chill ruins it for me, lol.

I was going to say...I'm in my 40s and I have several fandomy things I wear on the regular. Including stuff I wear to work.

Pretty sure most people either don't give a shit or if they really notice it's because they find it interesting.

Pet peeves!

(Anonymous) 2026-03-28 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)

When I tell someone something, and they reword it and then repeat it back to me like it was their idea. I had a stressful week but it's over now, and I don't have anything going on this weekend, so I'm going to just drop my worries for the time being and try to relax. It's been a few shitty weeks, and I had something big to deal with Friday, and I want to have a few days where I just do chill stuff without worrying. I told my boyfriend that in a text. Then, he called a few minutes later and was like, "Your stressful stuff is done, now you can just relax over the weekend" and I'm irrationally annoyed by it. Yes, that is what I said in that text to you. You just repeated what I said right back to me. I'm sure he meant well by it, but I'm tired of him doing that, because he does it way too often. If you want to agree and say "Yeah, that's a good idea" that's one thing, but it comes across like he thinks he just came up with it on his own.

Still would rather look at human made art, even if not good, than AI shit.

We all start somewhere, though we don't all go elsewhere, and maybe there's nothing wrong with that.

But yeah, I've been there. I don't want to dump on anything or be a fake compliment giver, so I've stayed quiet myself.

Can we, like, NOT make fun of literal children? Twitter is the worst, man.

Their opinions are very important and they're very important people, don't you know

(Anonymous) 2026-03-28 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I too had intimate relations with OP's mom

(Anonymous) 2026-03-28 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm. This is a weird one for me. On the one hand, I pretty much couldn't care less about antis or being kink-shamed or judged for stuff I like. Even if the thing I like is something I feel a little bit silly or insecure about, as soon as someone who is not me judges me for it I'm like, "Ah, right, this person is a judgemental asshole, no need to care what they think."

But OTOH, I'm annoyingly sensitive when it comes to people responding with hostility or judgement to something I've said when I've sincerely tried to express myself. I think maybe part of it is that I tend to assume everyone approaches communicating with others the same way I do, with a sincere desire to understand what the other person is trying to express, and to not read anything into what they've said that isn't definitely there. So when someone has a really hostile or bad-faith response to something I've said, I don't have very good natural defences against that. My instinct is to give the other person's response more credence than it necessarily deserves, and wonder what I said to cause them to respond that way. I've had to work at mitigating that mindset.

Possibly I also have some formative baggage about neglect and not being listened to, so now when people don't genuinely engage with what I say it plays into that sensitivity. Whereas neither of my parents were judgemental about the stuff I enjoyed or was interested in as a kid, so nothing in me is primed to take that kind of judgement from others seriously.

This is probably the funniest secret I’ve seen posted here in all the many years I’ve been swinging by almost daily.

When someone posts something online and people don't read/comprehend it. I read a comment on Reddit that was 3 sentences long, 78 words in total. It was concise, it made sense, it seemed that it had been written by a native English speaker, or someone who is 100% fluent in English. It was written at an easy-to-understand level. Yet no fewer than FIVE PEOPLE replied to it totally missing out on something that was in the middle sentence. Why bother to reply to something you didn't read?????

(Anonymous) 2026-03-28 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm the same way. I try to be kind but I just can't/won't lie if something is really poorly done, so I'll just skip past it.

This... kinda sounds like something that could be innocuous, like he's trying to agree with what you said by repeating something similar and omitting "just like you said earlier!" because obviously you said it.

Now I'm wondering if some people are taking my repeating their words to them as affirmation, as me trying to steal their ideas or something...

Honestly, I get it. Especially if someone is a smaller streamer, just ONE talkative annoying know-it-all can really ruin the chat experience. Or a Debbie Downer, or a trauma-dumper, or someone who just wants to take over the entire chat. That does sound really frustrating to deal with!

(Anonymous) 2026-03-28 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly I love this a lot!

(Anonymous) 2026-03-28 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I used to be too self-conscious to wear anything that I felt made me stand out too much, but as I've gotten older, I've run out of fucks to give about stuff like that! It's honestly one of the nicer things about getting older. I just don't care about stupid petty stuff like that anymore.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-28 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
This is wonderful! And you are not alone. I know so may people who do this and it’s so much fun to be creative about it.

I’ll be 50 when I go to my first con this summer. I’m in the process of designing and making my -bounding outfit for my latest fandom. But even in daily life I wear nonfandom fandom stuff. Shoes and accessories are my big ones but I also love blending color combinations and certain style elements that another fan might pick up on. I’m very subtle so this outfit for the con is a challenge for me; I want it to be subtle but obvious at the same time while also being my own style. I’m still in the ideas stage and have an image in mind but am not in love with it. Hopefully I come up with a new mental image soon so I can get to work on it!
