What are your pet peeves?

When I tell someone something, and they reword it and then repeat it back to me like it was their idea. I had a stressful week but it's over now, and I don't have anything going on this weekend, so I'm going to just drop my worries for the time being and try to relax. It's been a few shitty weeks, and I had something big to deal with Friday, and I want to have a few days where I just do chill stuff without worrying. I told my boyfriend that in a text. Then, he called a few minutes later and was like, "Your stressful stuff is done, now you can just relax over the weekend" and I'm irrationally annoyed by it. Yes, that is what I said in that text to you. You just repeated what I said right back to me. I'm sure he meant well by it, but I'm tired of him doing that, because he does it way too often. If you want to agree and say "Yeah, that's a good idea" that's one thing, but it comes across like he thinks he just came up with it on his own.

When someone posts something online and people don't read/comprehend it. I read a comment on Reddit that was 3 sentences long, 78 words in total. It was concise, it made sense, it seemed that it had been written by a native English speaker, or someone who is 100% fluent in English. It was written at an easy-to-understand level. Yet no fewer than FIVE PEOPLE replied to it totally missing out on something that was in the middle sentence. Why bother to reply to something you didn't read?????

These kids and their newfangled replacing of irregular verbs with regular versions. You can pry my knelt, dug, dreamt etc, out of my cold dead hands. *shakes fist at clouds*

Showing up to a scheduled event and finding there’s almost no one else there.

I prepped a thing to bring (an art project, a dish, etc) and I was ready to be friendly and social with strangers. I even made an effort to be there a little early. I was not ready to be one of only four people present and have to actively smile and small talk for a full hour.

It’s happened a couple of times in the last few weeks and I hate it.

People who give unsolicited advice about things they know nothing about. My dad does this incessantly and defends as "I'm trying to help!" Really? Spouting total nonsense with great confidence is helpful how? He will eagerly and insistently tell people stuff that's wrong and then argue about how he's right until you can prove it to him, then it's oh whoops, just trying to help, dunno why you're so ungrateful, etc. etc.

Reminded of this by someone in another thread: trauma-dumpers. In any situation, but when I got my cancer diagnosis (treated promptly, surgery only, dealt with as far as they know) the number of people who thought it was appropriate to tell me aalll of their problems, past and present, eventually made me laugh. I'm in pain and exhausted from the scans and waiting-rooms and knives, you know this, people! Now is not the time!!! Circle theory is a thing, but also, apparently, it's supposed to work the other way.

Mine is specific and probably a little weird.

I frequently see some form of this advice posted online:

If you meet someone new and want to find out what kind of person they are, go out to eat with them, go to stores with them, and see how they treat the waiter and the cashiers. If they are rude to them, you know they're an asshole, but if they're nice, you've found yourself a Good Human Being.

Now, the first part of that, I don't disagree with. If you go out to dinner with someone and they treat the server like shit, yeah, chances are they're an asshole.

But the other part IS NOT ALWAYS TRUE. My ex was abusive to me, and treated his family like shit, but he was flawlessly polite to service and retail workers. He was helpful and generous and so great to his friends, he was kind to his acquaintances, coworkers, neighbors, etc. But when he felt the most comfortable with you - his romantic partner, his family - THAT is when you get to see the person he really is.

And seeing this advice passed everywhere and praised and upvoted and awarded and shared just makes me a little bit crazy. Again, I totally agree that being rude to service workers is the mark of a horrible person, but being nice to them isn't a guarantee of goodness. You don't know what goes on behind closed doors. How often does it come out that someone is a sex offender or a murderer and all their coworkers and neighbors go "Oh I had no idea! I can't believe it! He was such a great person!"

Yeah, you didn't really know him.

Being nice to retail workers is a green flag, but it's not a guarantee. Share the first part, but leave off the second part.

Can we, like, NOT make fun of literal children? Twitter is the worst, man.

I really wish people would at the very least take this kind of stuff somewhere it's less likely to be seen by the people who are being spoken of. And especially if it's about kids, maybe take it somewhere entirely private where you know for sure the kid will never have to see it. Or just don't say it. But I feel like trying to make people not say certain stuff is way less effective overall than just encouraging people to be more mindful and considerate of when and where they say stuff.

I’m not sure what you expected from Twitter but personally that’s pretty much exactly the reaction to the trailer I’d expect from anyone still using that platform.

Why are you bringing this here

Why are you even on twitter? Just let it goooo.

I hope the family or team or whatever of all the kids involved in this series protect them and keep them far away from social media.

You are part of the problem.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-28 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
There was no reason to link that. There was no reason to perpetuate the visibility of any posts in any platform hosting that.
“People are making fun of the child who plays Harry Potter after seeing the new HBO teaser trailer.” That’s just one of countless ways to share the situation without promoting the content.

Not surprising. Twitter is a cesspit. And with JKR being the way she is, I'm sure some of the assholes feel even more emboldened to be assholes because they see this as an acceptable target. These kids are in for a lot of shit, sadly.

Old shows that hold up without nostalgia glasses

Hard to really say since we all have the glasses on, but what shows do you think are still solid? Brought to you having just watched the er pilot from '94 and realizing how good it was.

The CGI effects are dated, but if you can get over that then Babylon 5 is more prescient with every passing day.

I feel like the premise allowed for it to be progressive for its time.
