I am soooooooooo with you, Anon. I don't understand Tumblr, and the LJ exodus confuses the hell out of me. For all of LJ's faults, I still think it's the best platform -- the right blend of blogging and social networking, the best ability to build communities, the best system for comments, the capacity to privatize if you don't want to shout your thoughts to the entire Internet... Yeah. I don't care if it means I'm behind the curve. I can't make the switch, and I don't want to.

I have... made a couple of comments about Sherlock being a "cockfest" because it's got a predominantly male cast, and made a snide remark about your ears because you used the tone argument.

So... None. And none, I suppose, so that's one point in your favor. Good job. :)

And by God, where you're from is right about everything.

Parts of Canada: 16
Parts of Australia: 16
France: 15
Germany: 16
Iceland: 15
Italy: 14
Netherlands: 16
Poland: 15
Switzerland: 16
United Kingdom: 16
Alaska, Connecticut, D.C, Georgia, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Jersey, North Carolina, Idaho, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia: 16

Curiously enough, most of the traditionally "redneck" states have an age of consent of 18, in case you were curious. And all statistics concern male/female sex, and are from http://www.avert.org/age-of-consent.htm.

I read somewhere that back when they were trying to make GO into a movie, Johnny Depp was tentatively cast as Crowley. In a perfect world...

But about this secret, I don't think that Rob Pattinson has the charisma to pull off everyone's favourite flash bastard with a vintage Bentley. He's not nearly slick or smarmy enough; his sense of humour is much more self-deprecating. I just don't think he'd be a very good fit. But I do agree that he doesn't get enough credit.

Also, your s!b is the best thing ever.

I consider myself an intellectual (*insert list of academic credentials throughout my life validating this point but no one cares to read* here) and while I like someone who can keep up and not just stare at me slack-jawed when I'm having a conversation, I sure as hell wasn't looking for the smartest guy in the room and checking SAT score for every guy who asked me out. A part of me (and honestly, I see this in Hermione too) liked being perceived as the smart one. ::shrug::

The guy I ended up marrying is actually pretty intelligent, but in a completely different way from me. If he gets going in math, science or logic, people will think I'm the dope because I have little to offer; however, when it comes to literature, history, current events, random pop culture, then I get to shine. I love that he and I combined are pretty damn awesome; he picks up the slack where I'm weaker and vice versa.

It's NICE to not be dating someone who brings what you already have to the table.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-17 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
You guys are reading way too much into this secret.

I don't think they're saying Japan needs songs more than money, food, etc. They're just trying to help keep everyone's spirits up. It's like a non-religious version of "Please pray for them"... maybe a little naive, but they mean well. All the "so fucking dumb" and "GTFO my fandom" is kind of uncalled-for :|

(Anonymous) 2011-03-17 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no is the Difference Engine bad? D: I love William Gibson and was planning to read it soon...

+1 for epic

[identity profile] satji.livejournal.com 2011-03-17 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG YES.

JUST.

YES.

A+ COMMENT

[identity profile] yuppu.livejournal.com 2011-03-17 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)

I would so watch that. Especially if fem!Horatio/Ophelia was canon lol

(Anonymous) 2011-03-17 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
No one's said it yet?

"You are a weirdo!"

but in all seriousness anon, i'm not judging you.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-17 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Not "might well be" - is.

He's stated specifically that he wants a dick (chapter 90, page 11).

I think you, and people like you, forget that it's a story, not real life, and for this story, Takatsuki is definitely a trans man. I know fandom likes to play with things their own way, but when you do that to a character who is part of a nearly-invisible minority, it kind of pisses off the rest of us who identify with him, because when you invalidate his identity, it feels like you're invalidating ours as well.

I understand that finding androgynous characters to identify with is difficult, too, but stop projecting that onto a character that is just definitely not.

[identity profile] hikari87.livejournal.com 2011-03-17 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
meh, to me he looks too young to be Crowley. maybe in 20 years or so.

Re: +1 for epic

(Anonymous) 2011-03-17 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
He can pull off the lithe sexiness, and the utter lostness, and most of all, the dorky, adorable, so uncool he goes straight to super-coolness of Crowley.

That's what I came here to say! You can't just say that and then not provide some links.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-17 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with you. The second episode wasn't as good as the first and third episodes, but I still thought it was good entertainment too. But nobody can win within this fandom. If you made the bad guys French, the socially/politically fans would have been pissed, because the English always vilify the French, (God knows those two nations have had a tempestuous history). More developed female characters would be seen as Mary Sues and would take time away from the two main characters and the canon fans would be pissed...and on and on the "fail" would go. In the end I am watching a show based on two characters that I love from a series of stories about two men named John Watson and Sherlock Holmes. If I want political/social correctness I'll watch another show.

P.S. They should have made the bad guys Canadian, because we wouldn't have given a shit about stereotypes, we would've just been happy to be mentioned.

Would you have liked my ~tone~ better if I'd used the sparklefont? Would it have made me sound more palatable to your delicate male ears?

Oh. Right.

Cheers, mate. You keep replying, but you're no longer interesting to me.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-17 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Very much agreed! Both on that different people cope in different ways, and about consideration.

High school? Oh, honey. Oh, sweetie. No matter what the laws of the state/country may be, sex happens in high school.

I went to a private Catholic high school. And there was sex going on even there.

NEWS FLASH THAT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND: High schoolers have sex!

Plus, you make it sound like your so-called fans are going to have sex with yor characters. They're not; they're just going to pair them up together. And that's okay. I think YOUR FICTIONAL CHARACTERS will survive the trama.

Also, 'redneck' is a rude term, if not outright offensive. Knock it off.

[identity profile] hikari87.livejournal.com 2011-03-17 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to be honest and say I do not know why everyone seems to think those two had anything beyond plain friendship going on. But as a friendship story, yeah, I can see what you mean

(Anonymous) 2011-03-17 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
The problem isn't that she hasn't cared enough about something, I'm going to guess it's that she doesn't see porn as the degrading thing you see it as. You can't just expect people to view the world through the same filter you do.

[identity profile] kallanda-lee.livejournal.com 2011-03-17 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Must read this now..thank you!
