I'm sorry to hear that. The incident that made me leave the forums for good was when someone impersonated me (I was using a guest account) and mouthed off to forum admins for no reason other than the fact that I was 9. When I said someone else stole my identity, no-one believed me until the culprit owned up. But, by that time, I had left. When I looked back on the topic, someone still didn't believe that someone was impersonating me, and suggested they check the IP addresses of the posters. Because I totally knew what attention-seeking was at the age of 9.

I'm surprised I wasn't turned off fandom after that.

Yeah a friend on Twitter mentioned that to me, they've already confirmed it won't be anyone in New Directions. (Though with so many members supposedly quitting the Glee club I suppose it could be deliberately vague wording...) I hate to say it but my first instinct is Karaofsky. =C I'm not sure Glee would handle that sort of subject well, but I could see them trying.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-14 11:18 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. Their mien in this picture is particular off-turning.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-14 11:19 am (UTC)(link)
This has always been my thought, as well. If any apocalypse scenario ever went down, surviving would be my good time. Being able to abandon everything in my every day life and doing what I can to live sounds like one of the best experiences I can think of and is an absolute rush.

Knowing that I would be one of the last surviving humans and that I performed better than the majority of the world is all I'd need to keep going.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-14 11:28 am (UTC)(link)
I'm surprised too, because what happened to me sure turned me off of the furry fandom, at least. After JACK, I never returned to any part of that fandom and stayed as far away as I could. Haven't regretted it a single day.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-14 11:29 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it's a secret for a reason.
I hope you can get over your hatred eventually, OP. You don't seem to want feeling like that.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-14 11:42 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, depends on context. Doesn't always have to end in panic attacks. Example, results of an eating disorder or self injury trigger can be different than rape or ptsd trigger. Panic attacks for some, emotional distress and trigger of unhealthy/mentally unstable habits for others. All triggers.

[identity profile] endis-ni.livejournal.com 2011-05-14 11:42 am (UTC)(link)
I supposed it was because they couldn't fit WOEFULLY INAPPROPRIATE WITH HIS STUDENTS on the shirt.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-14 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
Barf. Kurt is a troll, sorry about your eyesight, anon.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-14 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
Guys, maaaaaybe they're talking about a place other than the US? Eg in Australia, high school is years 7-12, so ages 12-18. It doesn't remotely make sense for someone to be panicking over continued attraction to 15 year olds when they're 18.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-14 11:49 am (UTC)(link)
UThnkUrFunny IThnkImAdorable on ffn?

[identity profile] endis-ni.livejournal.com 2011-05-14 12:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly, all I had on me was a mug of green tea, which is a shame because I get the feeling Withnail & I fic is best written while reasonably tanked :)

[identity profile] lilweirdomokyn.livejournal.com 2011-05-14 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I assumed it was because the comments to this secret are more likely to discuss the triggers in more detail, so the secret poster warned ahead of that.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-14 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I think [livejournal.com profile] lulzatyou was talking about the "bitch" part of anon's comment. Assuming that the OP of the secret is a woman and then calling "her" a bitch.

[identity profile] beandelphiki.livejournal.com 2011-05-14 12:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been involved in this debate over and over across several different forums, and cannot recall an instance of "mockery," sorry.

Maybe it happens, but the OP acting like it's common? Is full of shit.

[identity profile] beandelphiki.livejournal.com 2011-05-14 12:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't tend to save links, but I've been in discussions where I know the other party is claiming to have never said something they did say, or hypocritically accusing someone of something they've done several times before, or [etc.] enough times to regret that.

[identity profile] beandelphiki.livejournal.com 2011-05-14 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Since the OP's actually probably trolling, no, not really.

[identity profile] no-one-specific.livejournal.com 2011-05-14 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
The way I see it, the people who are kink-shaming (I'm not talking about polite discussions/etc) are wrong to do so and should learn that YKINMKATO, but, like you said, so are the people who rudely dismiss it (only when the people are being reasonable and not making attacks or something.

Re: Spoilers for Prom episode

[identity profile] silver-coins.livejournal.com 2011-05-14 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I mean it's not like Karofsky has hurt Kurt because of his own self-hatred or anything. there's absolutely no reason for Kurt to want to not have to deal with being around his abuser and being nice to him because he's the only one who knows and has the carry that burden. /SARCCASM

Karofsky lovers are so ridiculous. Guess what? Karofsky made his sexuality Kurt's business. Kurt has already been WAY nice to Karofksy when he should have outed him after the kiss. Kurt doesn't owe Karofsky shit and that includes keeping his secret. You know why? Because keeping that secret means he can never come clean about being a victim of sexual assault and the fear he felt after. If anything Karofsky is the selfish one forcing Kurt to not only keep his secret and forgive him, but keeping the secret about an assault he experienced.

Also; saying "this is a chance to come out" =/= forcing. Jesus.

:( *hugs* ♥
I like your dad's idea a lot better than the original.

[identity profile] beandelphiki.livejournal.com 2011-05-14 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. I see. So if you're a sexual assault victim, and something that reminds you of that causes you to spend hours and hours hysterically crying, that's not a "trigger" if you're not prone to panic attacks.

Good to know. I'll be sure to correct everyone in that situation from now on when they call it the wrong thing!

Before you "protip," try looking it up.

[identity profile] micromyni.livejournal.com 2011-05-14 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
WOOT! This pleases me greatly, thank ye kindly! A nice Wheatley is good too. :3

[identity profile] lilweirdomokyn.livejournal.com 2011-05-14 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Kinks are a very much debatable issue, though, so some can get defensive about them. For example, if I have a rape fantasy, I'm already feeling rather guilty for that, but I'd get miffed if someone acted as if I was getting off to ALL rape because of that one fantasy. Because- guess what?- it's a fantasy. I like it because it goes how I want it to, and I can control the situation with just a thought. If I hear about it happening to someone, I'm not thinking "Wow, that's hot" I'm thinking "Oh my god, are they okay?" Believe it or not, people can seperate reality and fiction rather well.

And while this following example doesn't really relate to kinks, I think people often forget that what someone likes to write, or likes to read, is not a reflection of what they like to see if real life. It's like looking at a horror movie and going screaming to the police about how the director/writer is going to go out and kill someone because they made a story about the same thing. I happen to love stories that have kids or young teenagers as the main characters (The Thief Lord, Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker to name a few) and I have fun writing those stories, because there's something I find incredibly interesting about seeing people that young being able to take care of themselves and be just as competent- if not more- than adults. But when I hear of kids in real life having to do that, my heart breaks, because they shouldn't have to go through that.

I'm not completely disagreeing with you, a lot of the time in kink memes I see stuff and think, "Ick, why would I wanna read something about that?" which is why half the time I think to myself that stuff in kink memes is a joke, like someone is daring another to dare writing about something weird.

But outside of those memes, if you have a kink you want to write, I don't give a shit what it is as long as you tell an interesting story around it. The writer finds incest sexy? Whatever, if I stumble across it, I want something based around what the characters are going through and how they deal with the situation between them. Have a rape fantasy? Cool, but if you have it in a story, I want to read more about the aftermath and how the character deals with their life afterwards.

Also, WARN FOR THE SUBJECT MATTER! It's one thing to complain about a kink that squicks you out if you stumble across it, but if I find a story that has in big bolded font "this contains incest" I can't exactly complain to the author about it. That's usually the times I find YKINMK annoying, because if I'm squicked out that I came across something I would never read because I didn't know was there, it's not going to help my mood if someone says "Well some people like it." Cool, but I don't, and it would have been nice to know what I was getting into so I could either avoid the story, or just prepare myself for what was going to happen.

Yes, kinks are weird, and a lot of them are offensive to others, but taking a few minutes on Photoshop to say "I judge you" isn't going to make those people with the kinks to think, "Hey, you know what? Some people don't like this stuff, I'll guess I'll stop it now." People are more complicated than, "I like this one small thing, so clearly that dictates my entire personality and behaviour in the real world."

It's hilarious, isn't it? "By the way, Cromwell gets beheaded because Henry is a douche." - "WHAT, REALLY???? SPOILER!!!!"

Please accept my sympathies- your Dad had a really good way of thinking.
