This is what I got from the secret as well.

And I know from personal experience that it's pretty true, at least in some fandoms.

I ain't even mad though, I've moved on from anime fandoms and it's different. :P

[identity profile] inuyatta.livejournal.com 2011-06-21 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
Not quite, just hoping to have just one wank-free fandom. Just ONE *sob*.

Oh yeah, I get that. I mean, there are characters in a lot of manga/anime I can't really stir up enough interest in, but if I met someone like them in real life? Much easier to get a feel for them and like them.

...It is? I thought it was about the nilhistic "only today matters" attitude in teenage love.

You mean the song by Alphaville, right?

(Anonymous) 2011-06-21 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
No problem! I hope you can find them easily!

[identity profile] neoyi.livejournal.com 2011-06-21 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
I feel the same way with Transformers Animated Perceptor. Possibly because I can no longer listen to this song without thinking about him singing it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r838pJCS2o0

+1 to this awesome comment.

[identity profile] theosakansun.livejournal.com 2011-06-21 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
lol I'm way worse. I originally got into Joy Division, and THEN found out about New Order? And guess how I discovered Joy Division? My mom forced me to watch Control with he, bhahaha. (which later turned out to be my all-time favorite movie, but whatever ^^)

DA.

I think the point is it's statistically rarer. I think if you take "queer" broadly it's estimated to be 10 to 15 percent of the population (on a generous estimate). Those who identify bisexual are maybe 2-3 percent (and I specify identify as, because the behaviour is more prominent than bisexual identity). But if you go into trans-ness you are talking about figures like 1 in 40.000 to 1 in 100.000 people. Now considering the number of people who post here, it *is* statistically unlikely.

Furthermore transsexuality is not like bisexuality in the sense, that there have always been a lot of bisexuals who chose to identify either with the gay or the straight lifestyle. Especially those who aren't 50/50 but more like 20/80 ot 10/90 in their attractions. They might not be "out" in the real world, but feel free to speak about it online, which gives a seeming increase of bisuexuals.

Now, even if we underestimate the prevalence of transgenderism - it is much, much rarer than bisexuality. And yes, if it is not just one person posting, one might ask: what is causing this trend in fandom?

And this might not be just a "fad", it might in fact be a worrisome tendency that girls start identifying as male very quickly because society makes them feel uneasy about their female identities - and that is an issue.

You're kidding, right? Most of the stuff posted to this comm is un-beated, un-britpicked rubbish where Sherlock and John could just as easily be two random Americans as anything else.

Go ahead, post, you can't do any worse.

The Book Thief! One of my favourite books. Glad to hear it's on the booklist for some English classes.

I don't listen to soothing music to relax me. I put on YouTube videos of Nathan Lane interviews in the background.
I just love Nathan Lane.

Wow...that was mature.

[identity profile] mondaisenshi.livejournal.com 2011-06-21 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
This joke sounds old.

[identity profile] akicktotheface.livejournal.com 2011-06-21 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
This was such a flash in the pan fandom, it was really a shame. The movie was just so wonderfully done, I get an artist boner every time. EVERY TIME.

It's interesting though. I used to be a big member there, writing fics and such. But now it's cool to go on DA and see people I watch, think their art is cool, go back a few pages and find out that they were in the fandom too, that I knew them there first. So interesting. Haha

OP

I never said mostly. Small point while admitting to ~part~ of my reaction being selfish but there it is.

This is also why I won't watch a movie in 3D. Glasses over glasses = instant headache. I'm not about to pay $6-10 extra for a headache.

[identity profile] mondaisenshi.livejournal.com 2011-06-21 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
I think that there are people out there who are cruel and hurtful - they SHOULD be ignored, since they feed off of the attention they get in response to these comments.

I think that there are people out there who are uneducated and have a skewed view of humanity, often an egocentric, ethnocentric, "heteronormative" (re: homophobic) view. These people should have things patiently explained to them. They may be unwilling to change. Move on to tactic 1. However, if all you do is whine and bitch and rage and scream, rather than actually speaking plainly and openly and calmly and politely, they're even more likely to dig in their heels and become more resistant and prejudiced and biased.

I also think that there are people out there who like to joke. About everything. Themselves, the things they love, the things they hate, the things that don't matter to them. I personally see this as the South Park comedy method - make fun of everything equally. That's not to say they don't respect and even understand what they're making fun of. Hell, they could be making fun of themselves. You really don't know. So, especially if people are willing to communicate and even apologize for any misunderstandings or hurt caused by their words, I don't see the harm in making fun.

I am attracted to men, but being with one doesn't feel right as a female. Instead, I want to be with a male as a male.

This is me exactly. I'm glad that you were able to come to this decision, no matter by what means, and I wish you luck :)

[identity profile] dontgiveahoot.livejournal.com 2011-06-21 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
I think being attracted to him is sort of forgivable required.
Fixed that for you!
