Her voice grates a bit, but I love her skull collection.

I started to type a reply and then found your comment did it for me. He is flawed- he has a temper he tries to control and mostly succeeds, but there is a lot of anger even before the games. He knows that he's good with words, and once he realises that he tries to use it to his advantage... and sometimes it backfires horribly. That's not a Stu trait. He has built up Katniss as somebody he was connected to, which is why he could believe her lies in the arena. He probably fell for her for a mixture of reasons, some good and some bad. I don't think it was a coincidence that the first thing he learnt about her was that she was the daughter of his father's ex, a nurturing and kind woman- a stark contrast to his own abusive mother.

As for why Katniss doesn't dwell, she has built him up as Somebody She Is Indebted To. That is the most powerful thing in the world to her. I think it's also the reason you don't see much of his family- they would illustrate his weaknesses, and she doesn't want to see that.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA no.

This. I ship Teams 10 and 8. I tried to multiship 7 for a while, but...then Sasuke went from asshole to douchebag to motherfucker to complete monster. :/

[identity profile] gelaecter.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
I read "he looks like he smells" in the same way someone would say "it tastes like it smells" and was just like "...what? How does someone look like a smell?" Then I got it and felt stupid >.

[identity profile] rimuvxg.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
It really depends on your circumstances. For example, a gay person in a deeply homophobic area might not want to be coming out to his/her friends, even if said friends might accept it, because there is a possibility that someone unpleasant could get hold of that information. But keeping it a total secret can be really isolating. Telling someone who is ostensibly miles away and who in all likelyhood isn't going to hunt that person down based on an IP address can be very relieving. This obs. applies to a lot of other circumstances as well (I know atheists in very religious areas who were amazed to find people online who actually *agreed* with them).

Also, you're on fandomsecrets lol. This is pretty much proof that there are things people feel more comfortable saying anonymously to strangers on the Internet than to their nearest and dearest.

*awww* Cute :)

[identity profile] micromyni.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
I heard "Kekekekeke". More annoying.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-13 10:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I stopped caring about your opinion when you listed "ugliest hero" as a reason not to like him.

[identity profile] asthenie-vd.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 10:17 am (UTC)(link)
You're definitely not alone. Sansa's one of my absolute favourites.

Stay away from westeros.org and check out the LJ fandom, like [livejournal.com profile] westeros_women.

hdu. how very dare you

japanese people are people of color and therefore CANNOT be racist. you must be confusing their behavior with prejudice or bigotry

i suggest you enroll in an American college course that will address these issues immediately

Mmm... a His Dark Materials secret~! I really do like this series and that's an interesting comparison. :)

There is actually an edition of Wuthering Heights with a Twilight-style cover. It's pretty terrifying.

[identity profile] amidoh.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 11:03 am (UTC)(link)
I am laughing so hard right now and you know why jfc

Great comment.

LOL @ Buttsex in space, though. I propose the comic change it's title.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-13 11:10 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, fuck off.

I forgot this was [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets where half the words don't mean what they mean in real life.

Boyish means like a boy and implies that certain traits are masculine.

Yes, it does, and in Arya's time some of her traits would be considered incredibly masculine. I don't see why this is a problem. If a girl is a tomboy, she has traits commonly associated with boys, i.e. she is boyish. If you were saying this about a woman wearing pants and bringing home the dough in our time I'd raise an eyebrow at you, but saying it about a convention-breaking woman in Arya's time? What exactly is the issue?

(Anonymous) 2011-09-13 11:10 am (UTC)(link)
My dislike for her doesn't come from a misogynistic place. My dislike for her stems from the fact that a lot of the trouble she got into was her own fault. Certainly not all of it, but she didn't have to lie and choose that little brat over her sister. She's a self-centered, shallow little brat and she didn't figure that out until it was too late.

Now when I dislike a character, it's a little distant and vague, if that makes any sense. I leave room to change my mind. If she starts to grow as a character, I'll probably start to like her.

But I still vote for Danaerys to get the throne back, even though I don't think it's all that possible at this point. By the time she gets there, she's going to have the experience of caring for a group of people, and she's already shown compassion and determination and courage. Sansa hasn't really shown any of those qualities except for determination to get what she wants even at her own sister's expense. You know, these stories are a total bummer... I changed my mind, at least for a moment. I want Tyrion Lannister to be king. He'd bring some fun to the world along with all his practical thinking.

I think the problem with a lot of people in fandom is that they don't understand how to properly express a dislike for the character. You get a whole mob mentality going on, where people stop thinking for themselves and start agreeing with everyone else. And mobs tend to be irrational, which could certainly bring the whole misogyny thing into play. But don't have an opinion just to spite them. Have it because you think it's absolutely true. There are a few people out there who listen.

[identity profile] fierceawakening.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
This, exactly.

[identity profile] fierceawakening.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 11:21 am (UTC)(link)
I don't blame you for wanting revenge, OP. Some trolls have very long memories.

But I'd say revenge that elaborate means you're a bit too invested in these horrible people.

schadenfreude != bullying

(Anonymous) 2011-09-13 11:36 am (UTC)(link)
I agree, OP. It's kind of a shitty place, but some threads are OK (the T&B thread is pretty good most of the time). I don't really care about fanfiction at all, so I spend more time on /a/ (and tumblr) than LJ.

[identity profile] sxiz.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 11:38 am (UTC)(link)

Everytime I see a CATS secret I die of happiness. First fandom, I miss you.

Now I only need a couple of The Jellicle Chronicles secrets to be complete.
