The age difference is pretty big, and kind of squicks me, but I don't rule out the possibility of Karina/Kotetsu becoming canon. It is possible, not that likely, but possible. (also I get the feeling that a lot of men aren't squicked by that kind of May/December romance)

And, sadly, it is more likely than Kotetsu/Barnaby becoming canon.

I had to stop reading places like the animesuki forums because of the people who would not. shut. up insisting Kotetsu/Karina was going to become canon and anyone disagreeing must be a delusional slasher. Karina's crush was adorable, it's a shame people couldn't take it as it was and accept Word of God that nothing would ever come of it.

Kotetsu's theoretical limit is 26. Karina is a whole decade too early.

I just loved how people insisted that it was because the creators wanted to appeal to the fujioshi crowd. Because it is so unimaginable to have a story without some shitty romance, amirite? They are worse than some Natsume Yuujinsho fans who wanted Natsume and Glasses Girl to get together because there is too much gay for them and it is shoujo, and there must be romance in a shoujo anime because that is what girls like!

Just saying as someone who does ship Kotetsu/Karina: That pairing should stay in the realm of fandom. If there's going to be a second season, I don't really want to see them hook up. At all.

I think if Karina ever has the courage to confess her feelings, Kotetsu will reject her gently. That's my headcanon of that scene, at least.

It annoys me when people insist it has a chance of happening pretty much solely on the strength of her being The Girl, even with all evidence to the contrary. I have no issue with shipping it, writing about it, wanting it to happen, squeeing over it, arguing as to why it could possibly work, whatever, and god knows I have no ground to stand on to criticize people for having fun with it ha ha no this is not my huge Yuri/Kotetsu fanart collection why do you ask. But as soon as it meanders into "but she's the main female character so of course they're going to get together!" territory...augghh.

Karina/Kotetsu is a fun ship, but I was pretty happy that it was acknowledged by word of god that she's too young and her crush is supposed to be unrealistic (yeah, citation needed, but I think a lot of people have read that by now).
Honestly, I'll take the people with an unrealistic hope for a hell of a May-December romance over the people who want Kotetsu to be tied down to his deceased wife for the rest of his days. Depressing. (Not that I'm not okay with there being no love interest for Kotetsu, infact I'm more than okay with that because I don't think a romance would fit the tone of the show.)

Personally I'm hoping for Nathan/Antonio to become canon even though I know it's unlikely...

Insisting one non-canon ship is less valid than another non-canon ship seems pretty darn pointless. I mean most of the time people don't CARE if it makes sense in canon they're just make it make sense in their fics.

Err, a bit harsh don't you think?

But I have to agree that I'm pretty surprised of the annoying vocal minority of that pairing are so vicious and arrogant that their pairing saying that it's definitely becoming canon just because she's the most visible girl of the group (to even call her a heroine is a bit too much, IMO) and a girl and anyone who disagree is a delusional fujoshi who has their goggles screw on tight. I feel like those people sorta missed the point that it looks like Karina is more in love with an idea of Kotetsu than Kotetsu himself because of the numerous times she fell for his pretty oblivious lies (let's not get to the very convincing lies he can pull off), the persona he liked to put up for himself and that someone always had to point it out to her. Hence why the episode of her realizing her crush on the guy was called 'Love is Blind'. Plus Word of God pretty much shot it down as possible because her crush is unreasonable and Kotetsu is completely obvious to female attention.

Personally, while the age is an issue. In during people post up some May-December romances, a critical necessity for it to work is that people need to be on the same page, which I don't think it's possible for those two.

luckily I haven't encountered any rageful shippers of any sort in T&B, but I have a feeling that if there is a second season, Karina will have an arc devoted to her getting over Kotetsu and finding the right guy for her. The creators have said that Karina's crush is supposed to be "ridiculous" or something along those lines, and Kotetsu is clearly oblivious.

I actually kind of hope they DON'T go the romantic route ever with any of the characters, though. It's fun without canon ships.

Except Sky High... it's ok if they hook Keith up with someone. He really, really needs someone to take care of his woobie ass xD

Wow, this fandom is aggressive. Not only is the secret pretty hostile, but also the comments on anyone who voices a different opinion.

How about live and let live?

Afaik, the slash community in this fandom is really huge. And almost all the commenters are favouring Kotetsu/Barnaby with most of them being squicked out by the thought of Kotetsu/Karina and none of them thinking they have a chance in hell.
Any other opinion seems to be the minority here.

So there's plenty of people to talk to for you, and no reason to hate on anyone for shipping something you don't approve of, no matter how delusional they might be. Why don't we all chill down and enjoy the show?

It sorta squicks me, but more than anything I can't really see Kotetsu with anyone other than Barnaby at this point...I feel like that's somehow shallow reasoning compared to the age difference but *shrug* Ah well.

I'm not really a fan of the pairing either honestly. Not only because of the age difference, but it would unfair to everyone for her to have to be a mom figure to Kaede when she's still a teenager with a teenage mindset.

But I am hoping in S2 or whatever she'll move on and get a NEXT boyfriend with awesome earth related powers :3

... but as a whole, I hope we don't have any romance taking over the show and whatnot.

If shippers want to ship it, let them. I don't think there's any reason for them to leave the fandom simply because they like something you don't.

But delusional shippers (i.e. the kind who scream ITZ CANON AND NE1 WHO DUZNT AGREE R STUPID LOL from the rooftops when it's clearly not) of any kind irk me, and I do understand being frustrated with that sector of the fandom. If it makes you feel better, the creators of T&B have already run the Karina/Kotetsu ship over with an eighteen-wheeler anyway. According to them, her crush was meant to be interpreted as unreasonable and show that, despite her job as a Hero, she's still just a kid. In the meantime, Kotetsu is a total derp who is oblivious and disinterested in getting close to women in general.

Why get so upset that 5% of this fandom likes to read or write het (I'm one of them, though that's not all I enjoy). I don't think Karina is going to end up with Kotetsu. I would however like to see her try, like it is suggesting she intends to do in the anime; the possibilities for hilarity are endless (I'm a lot more interested in where her relationship with Pao-lin is going though to be quite honest).

If someone writes a fanfic or fanart where it does work out for them, okay IT'S FANWORK ONLY, NOT CANON, DUDES. Just like most fans seem to like talking about Kotetsu and Barnaby getting together, there are fans who would like to see them with other people (or if you are like me, you polyship and most pairings are fun for you).

I saw a list somewhere and the number of canon pairs in this fandom is really tiny. Neither Kotetsu/Karina, nor Kotetsu/Barnaby are canon, in bed together, rubbing uglies, except in your imagination, so please just let it go.

That's a lot of parenthesis.
