Oh what the fuck ever.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-23 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahhh, sorry. My bad. I promise, there room enough in the office supplies aisle for everyone!

Basil!

I'd have a hard time saying I think he's the best, since he's an AU version, like the BBC version (modern day) and the Young Sherlock Holmes version, etc. I tend to look at them differently than (supposedly) canon!versions, like Jeremy Brett and the RDJ version, etc.

I will say that Ratigan is the only version of "Moriarty" I've EVER liked, though.

I still believe that K has feelings for Nico too. I don't think KN could ever really be dropped, because there's much too much history between them. At the very least, we'll always get subtext -- we'll probably forever get a whole 'will they or won't they' storyline for them.

A friend of mine who SUPPOSEDLY knew BVK, told me that if BKV had stayed on past what was his last issue, he would have eventually made Karolina and Nico a couple. Take it with a grain of salt, obviously, but IMHO it's pretty obvious that he was leading up to them eventually getting together.

It says volumes about your argument your main bone of contention is my slang.

1. Shows with well-written queer characters are still in the minority. And I'm a fantasy/sf fan so there's virtually nothing in terms of TV and films. In the mainstream media, films and TV shows about gay people tend to be ~*~gay films~*~ and ~*~gay shows~*~ rather than just films and TV shows that happen to have gay people in them. Slash fandom is full of adventure stories and so on that happen to have same-sex romances in them, and I love that.

2 and 3. Again - most 'straight' characters don't have stated sexualities. Making references to be attracted to people of the same sex =/= straight. One of my best friends is a lesbian but is currently dating a guy. I have a bisexual friend who is currently engaged to a guy. Chances are many people they meet will assume they are straight when they talk about having opposite-sex significant others, but this is not the case.

4. I'd agree that there are characters who might become OOC is written in a same-sex relationship, but tbh I think they're in a minority. But I'd say a good enough fanfic writer can make any pairing seem in-character. And also, alternate universe fic exists - when I write a character who is attracted to members of the opposite sex in canon as outright gay rather than bi, I label the fic AU.

5. I'm not alone in my views on this. :P There are plenty of obnoxious slash fangirls, it's true, and they tend to give the rest of us a bad name, but there's also plenty of people (particularly in the femmeslash fandom, which in my experience is often largely composed of lesbians) who are sick of only seeing straight couples on TV. I also don't mind the ones who are just in it for the porn (except for the nasty minority who are outright homophobic but still read/watch same sex porn cause it's omg hawt, I wish they gtfo).

No need to apologize, I was just a bit surprised to be honest. Thanks for the clarification, I can definitely see where you're coming from now.

[identity profile] saturnonjupiter.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Alright but what if they don't have romantic/sexual chemistry????? Friendship =/= I WANT TO SCREW YOU, just an fyi in case you missed that memo.

Unless you genuinely believe ev er y show has at least two guys who are friends who have DA MAGIX between them, in which case, gurl those goggles are chokin yo brain stem.

It's gotten to the point that I just assume fans are either too young or too ignorant to educate themselves on depression, and/or other psychological problems, and how they *actually* work as opposed to the incorrect ways it's portrayed at large.

And, I think, no one cares about a trauma survivor unless that survivor is a woobie who is broken and needs to be "fixed" somehow, particularly in a stereotypically non-threatening state. Harry's rage is the exact opposite of that, so it can't/doesn't fit into fandom's fantasy fuel.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-23 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, you're a troll because you're posting stuff that is controversial for the purpose of pissing people off. Unfortunately, we're far too busy laughing our asses off at you to be angry.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-23 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
On look, another guy and girl in a show end up getting together instead of remaining friends. How shocking.

[identity profile] sensualcoco.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't find it particularly funny (not my sense of humor?) but it's like something to watch when there's nothing else on. Plus I feel obligated to give it a chance since we have a comedy with women, I'll give it to it's second season to see if catches its stride.

[identity profile] time-ambassador.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Why complain about this now? I thought it was pretty well-known that MK vs. DCU was a piece of shit.

Get over it and go buy the new MK game, it's 100000000000x better.

[identity profile] eerised-da.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Glad to hear it. I can understand the surprise.

[identity profile] velvet-mace.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, the fans who judge you because you choose to write slash exclusively are not your audience and they aren't your friend and therefore their feelings and opinions are not your problem..

Don't get into the mindset where you think you have to win over the hearts and minds of everyone. It will never happen. But fandom is a big enough pond for us all to frolic in it. Haters can have their bitter, angry corner to themselves.

[identity profile] rydiachachunk.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"I get to each their own"

Well obviously not if you're being a judgmental bitch about a TV show.

[identity profile] the-angry-pixie.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
but, but....

haha just kidding. i don't ship them, but i still love this parody.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-23 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
What leads you to think that's the deciding factor? You know, there are fandoms in which the male characters are supposed to be straight, yet their strongest emotional bonds are with other men. I'd rather ship a guy with his bff of two seasons than a one-episode girlfriend.

[identity profile] saturnonjupiter.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Your porn makes no sense?

Try that one on for size.

[identity profile] urplesquirrel.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
For me it's not THE best, but it's up there.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-23 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
A male and a female being platonic? NEVER

[identity profile] saturnonjupiter.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Truly a shame.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-23 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
He's angsting about the wrong things, really petty things. Like "omg why did Ron become prefect, althouh I'm so much better" or "omg why did Ginny get together with blablablabla"

Making fun of people for studying and relying on their help all the time is pretty lame.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-23 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Does the gender of the character matter? Surely what you should be paying attention to is whether you like the character regardless of gender.

As It is I'm in the same boat as you, there are some female characters I love in many different shows, but on a whole I simply relate to males more.

I simply know the kinds of character I like and relate to, and very few who fit into this bracket are female.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-23 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man, this show is just awful. I'm going to leave it at that for now, but I'll probably come back in a couple of hours to elaborate on how terribad this show is when I can get to my laptop
