DAY IS MADE NO BIG DEAL

I disagree. It's a great example. There was nothing at all "slashy" about this relationship. As a general rule, I don't mind any sort of shipping (unless it involves an underage character paired with an adult, or something along those lines). But, there's nothing wrong with thinking that other people are going overboard by shipping a pairing when the actual relationship is obviously platonic.
And I don't think the OP has a problem at all. You and the OP's friend on the other hand...

Well said :)

I didn't know about "Nazi-kink".

Idg why some people get so... angry about how Lady Gaga dresses. "BE NORMAL, GAGA. APPEASE ME BY DRESSING TO MY DEMANDS. BE NORMALLSDLSADASK!!"

(Anonymous) 2011-10-24 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Agree so much with this. The replies on Nichkhun's Twitter were especially embarrassing. Sometimes he did leave sappy messages hinting about things on WGM, but a lot of his fans acted like every single thing he tweeted was some veiled clue about his relationship with Victoria. They probably didn't even see each other that much while filming. The guy does have a life outside of that show, sheesh. Also, she really didn't seem that into him for anything beyond friendship.

I agree. I never liked Rickman's Snape because he was never mean enough. Snape in the book could be a serious dick sometimes, and we never saw that in the films.

DITTO! The best Sherlock characterization ever, perfect right down to his muttering at his instruments.

[identity profile] ladyyuna07.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
I have yet to see him in anything funny either, but I also haven't seen everything he's in. I just don't like him enough to give him that chance of maybe-someday being funny. (which is weird because he's got such a deadpan/sarcastic delivery, which is exactly like my sense of humor, but he's just... not good at it? I don't know what it is)

The only thing that really bothered me about this show was a bisexual joke in last week's episode that struck me as insensitive.

Otherwise, I like it because I totally relate to Max. So, again, to each their own.

I just space-barred down through this thread and went "wheeeeeeeee". I didn't even read the secret, but the comment thread has that dramatic, jagged-line shape of a true wank-inducer. At one point it starts to look like Harry's scar. This is a good'n.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-24 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
This! I am a relatively tall girl, and when I do like guys (only about 25~% of my sexuality leans towards guys) they are always shorter.

Then again, I've met people who wouldn't date shorter/taller ON PRINCIPLE and it didn't seem to have anything to do with attraction -- that's a bit of an asshole thing to do.

[identity profile] ladyyuna07.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
I'm on the fence about it too. I have this headcanon that Jackie and Fez got married, but divorced when Fez came out of the closet in the 90s, and Jackie and Hyde got back together at a high school reunion. (it's way more detailed, but that's the gist) I just don't want there to be a final nail in the Jackie/Hyde coffin. =(

WIN.

Gif love! :-D

[identity profile] lemon-m.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. I'd go see it even if it were life-action.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-24 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Namestalking you? I don't get it. Does he say your name randomly in interviews/twits/etc.? Do you have a sufficiently uncommon name and have met him? Otherwise I don't get what you are trying to say here.

D: cannot unsee

(Anonymous) 2011-10-24 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
I see someone is butthurt

(Anonymous) 2011-10-24 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know why, I just do it because it entertains me. I read lesbians fics but I just don't write em' and I'm not going to force myself just to make others happy.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-24 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
You're sad...

(Anonymous) 2011-10-24 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, maybe when who engage women who(GASP!) don't agree with you, you can refrain from calling them misogynist slurs.

But I guess ~putting those uppity bitch feminazis in their place~ is the easiest route, huh?

(Anonymous) 2011-10-24 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds fucking selfish. People can write what they want, I'm sure there's other people writing women just to satisfy your needs.

[identity profile] j-lunatic.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
And I've seen fanart in which Bella reads Twilight and imagines Edwards as a sparkly Voldemort.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-24 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Curious, who is that :S

(Anonymous) 2011-10-24 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
In all serious, people always say m/m erases women from canon but I rarely see this actually happening. Pairing fics tend to be oneshots, porn or otherwise, and usually heavily on the two characters regards of being het/slash/femslash.

If the fandom have regular, prominent female characters, you will never very rarely see actual erasure (meaning that they were erased because the author didn't like females) but if the fandom as occasionally but reoccurring female character (like ones who don't appear all that much), there's no real obligation to include them like the male version of that character. The problem is that series like those never had much of a female presence (which in turn the fans are likely to be slash oriented in terms of shipping).

I think we call erasure too lightly if said canon doesn't have a very strong female presence in the first place. But ones with significant female canonical presence (the female characters are consistently present and their own characters) are far less likely to erase.

Zachary Quinto (Sylar in Heroes, Spock in Star Trek 2009).
