Nah, my main bone of contention is that your argument makes no sense because you can't stop people from shipping whatever they want even if you don't like (unless you have a mind control satellite that you're operating from your basement, and even then with the amount of slash out there it's obviously not very effective). Most of the time, I care about the characters' personalities. And yes, personality and sexuality are completely separate. Sexuality can even "change" for people over time, but I think that's a concept too advanced for someone like you. But sometimes, yes, all I want are hot people to fap to, and there's nothing wrong with that. I kinda pity you for thinking there is.

I'll be honest, I sort of agree with you but sort of not. I don't have any problem with changing a character's sexuality in fiction - it's like genderbending, species-swapping, AU-ing, or any number of other things where writers can use their imagination and have fun. Pointing out that it's OOC is kind of dumb - people probably already know that.

I only have a problem with it if people start to claim that it fits with canon, because...no.

BUT - and this is a big but - very few characters (at least that I've seen) have explicitly defined their sexuality (or had it defined by his/her creator). And unless a character comes out and says "I am straight/gay/bi/whatever" it's not really OOC to assume that any are plausible.

No you wouldn't. I'm sure that even if there was 10 times as many showers with bisexual/homosexual characters right this day, there would still be shipping of straight characters gay, gay characters straight, and everybody with bizzare fetishes including robotics, bestiality, and whatever furies are into on a given day.

Because that is the nature of shipping. Always has been. Always will be.
