Hey, Japan, can I have a word with you?

Okay, this fetish you have for Nazi fashion? Why? I mean, I get the bad boy thing but these are the Nazis. This isn't bad boy. This is downright evil. Heck, the SS even advertise it with having the skull and crossbones as part of their every day uniform. No one above the age of fifteen and outside the the Neo Nazi movement thinks it's cool. Instead we think you are trying way too hard to be a badass and, might I add, failing. Putting an anime or manga character in Nazi fashion is about as edgy as running into the middle of Sunday mass and yelling, "Fuck God." It's obnoxious and eye rolling. Grow up.

Uh, it's not just Japan that does it, you know, and it's a bit dismissive of the issue to say it's just "lol Japan and its weirdness" as if people in other countries are guiltless.

[identity profile] ncc-gqmf.livejournal.com 2011-10-26 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
It is, however, extremely prevalent and deeply annoying here.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-26 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
I'm Japanese, if it helps. I know it sounds like I'm being defensive of my country but it's not that, I know they're bad about it and a whole bunch of other things. But other countries are also bad about it- just not as openly- and pinning all the blame on Japan is... overlooking a lot of things and making it into a "lol Japan" joke which cheapens the issue as well.

[identity profile] ncc-gqmf.livejournal.com 2011-10-26 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
You have to admit that the ~vogue~ here for Nazi symbolism has really opened up the doors for the whole "It's fashionable now! it doesn't MEAN anything" argument, however, no?

I think it more of an Asia thing. There is a poor education about the whole nazi movement, so you see it more in that part of the world.

Some high school in Singapore (I think) just had a nazi parade that drew lots of negative international attention.

[identity profile] ncc-gqmf.livejournal.com 2011-10-26 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Admittedly, I live in Japan so I've only experienced it here. It pisses me right the fuck off, though. I had a huge fight with a coworker about it a few weeks back. :/

(Anonymous) 2011-10-26 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Well yeah, but so did Prince Harry. And a Chinese actress wore a dress made out of the Imperial Japanese flag.

In other words, some people who should know better not always do. Regardless of the continent.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-26 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
http://articles.cnn.com/2011-09-28/asia/world_asia_thailand-nazi-parade_1_nazi-uniforms-nazi-symbols-nazi-themed?_s=PM:ASIA

It was Thailand, not Singapore, please do your research, googling is not hard :|

Also uh, I wouldn't want to generalise and say things like 'poor education about the whole Nazi movement' that simply, if I were you, without at least looking at the history syllabus in various schools in that region- speaking here as someone actually from Southeast Asia who took History in highschool, I can tell you that we did cover WWII in a fair amount of depth, concentrating equally on the European and Pacific theatres of war.

Even I wouldn't want to say how much other people in different countries know, though, because frankly I know just as much about the syllabus in Laos as I do about how history is thought in some place like Yugoslavia. Of course it's justifiable to say that different places would emphasize- or de-emphasize- certain issues which are deemed politically sensitive (the Nanking Massacre and the Vietnam War are two major examples but I can go on), but 'there is a poor education about the whole nazi movement' isn't, strictly speaking, correct at all.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-26 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
well, go take a look at some of the fucked up shit japan did during ww2 and all of the fucked up shit they have now. it's not hard to see why nazi uniforms are so ~sugoii for them.

[identity profile] stella-down.livejournal.com 2011-10-26 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I think Japan might have a slightly different perspective than an American when it comes to the Nazis. just maybe.
ext_52635: (Default)

[identity profile] mekkio.livejournal.com 2011-10-26 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
That's a horrible and a downright lazy excuse. Yes, I may be American but I know to call Nazis "cool and edgy" is wrong. Just like I would never glorify Pol Pot, Papa Doc and Idi Amin even though they almost had jack all to do with the US. Evil is just evil. I mean, are we dealing with a country of illiterate eleven year olds? No. They should know better. There is no excuse.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-26 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Are you implying Japan is the OP of this secret? You realize there's like a 95% chance this is by a white person who lives in the US, Canada, or Europe, right?

[identity profile] stella-down.livejournal.com 2011-10-26 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
former Axis countries tend to have different opinions on former Axis countries. Japanese nationalism was in some ways even nastier than the Germans'. you should see their textbooks. I doubt they think of it as transgressive.

[identity profile] ncc-gqmf.livejournal.com 2011-10-26 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
That's... not really how it works, actually. Germany is crazy hardcore now about stomping down on any signs of nationalistic fuckwittery. Japan sucks in comparison, but they teach their kids to be ignorant, not racist fascists.

IDK, Japan is pretty adamant about pretending a lot of shit it did during WWII Didn't Happen. Considering how annoyed China and Korea are, I'm not surprised at this treatment of Nazi Germany. Unlike the way Germany is now.

So if your point is that Japan sucks at this across the board and it's a symptom of that, I might be inclined to agree.

Lol, you are so thick I just can't.

1. America is NOT the goddamn world and the goddamn world doesn't conform to your brand of morality.

2. How do you know it's not an American or European who has sent in the secret?

3. How are you so thick?!

[identity profile] sharknasty.livejournal.com 2011-10-26 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Okay.
I want you to stop.
Take you hands off the keyboard before you go absolutely nuts with trying to defend this point of view.
And I want you to look at what you typed.
Like actually look at it.

Because from what I am seeing you are pissing and moaning about how Japan is pretty much the sole proprietor of Nazi fetish bullshit; as if they started the trend and the entire country wants to jump the bones of anyone wearing a Nazi uniform. Which, FYI, is pretty much bullshit. I legit do not understand how you can look at this comment and think "Yes. Posting this was a good idea."

(Anonymous) 2011-10-26 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
Woow this comment is painfully dumb. The generalisation alone is killing me

(Anonymous) 2011-10-26 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
So, No one above the age of fifteen and outside the the Neo Nazi movement thinks it's cool
but yet people all over have professed to enjoying this kink, like, oh, the secret creator (who is from the UK) and the many others in this thread professing to liking it?

Sense. You are not making it.

I am getting some anti-Japan vibes from you as well though and please, you don't speak for the rest of us. I would hate to be represented by someone with thought processes like yours.

[identity profile] mekkio.livejournal.com 2011-10-26 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I find it creepy that you take my anti-Nazi stance as anti-Japan. You have issues.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-26 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
You are making nonsensical generalizations about an entire country and I'm the one with issues? lol ok
Let me try spelling it out

"this nazi based fetish is a problem and glorifies the evil of the nazi reign" = the foundation of your comment = a stance based in anti-nazism (which isn't true, but ok)

"japan this is your fault" = your actual comment = comes off as you having particular problems with japan and wilfully ignoring all the people in other countries that are into it

see how that works?

I hope you have at least realized how much your original comment doesn't make sense, whether or not you think I have ~issues

one more tip: a fetish for the uniform =/= trying to be edgy/being pro-nazi but I know that's gonna go over your head

facepalm
