OP Here. I have been giving this idea some serious thought. My friend is unpredictable. Sometimes, she's completely fine, and other days she thinks that everything anyone says to her is cause for an argument.

[identity profile] emobus.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Meeee toooo OP. I loved "knowing" and idgaf who knows it.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Me too, anon. It's not like there aren't a hundred other stories with betrayals like the one in the fandom in this secret, so unless OP's friend actually shot them or something and then stole their sister away to their secret base to become militant terrorists, I don't really see much of a connection to fandom, or at least this specific fandom.

Same, that voice grates terribly

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
It's funny. I hated old Lola, but I don't mind new Lola. I don't liked her but I don't hate her. Probably cause she's actually funny this time around.

Also, that's not the final art for the show. She looks better. Bit weird though but so do all the characters.

Adding to the chorus of well wishes. I had one at 20, too. It was uncomfortable, but it is a safe and legal procedure, and it only took a couple days to fully recover. You don't have to be afraid. :) The decision may seem difficult, and you may feel like "I would never in a million years be this person," but way, way more women than you know have been in your shoes.

If you can't have a child right now, whatever your circumstances, I think you're doing something responsible and brave. Good luck.

The fact that he does so many bizarre movies is why I'm a fan - those flicks are my bread-and-butter and he handles them with more style than the usual brand of blockheaded, stoic action star. And fuck it, as of now, National Treasure is going on my too-watch list.

[identity profile] velvet-mace.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yes she tried to get into it, but she just couldn't. Why couldn't it be like the thing she did love.

It's the same kind of PA that leads people to demand you explain why you love your ship, because they just can't get it. The "what is wrong with you" is kind of implied. Along with the "my show is so much better, why can't you see that." Or those people who claim to be persecuted because they only like het, implying that evil slashers will come after her with pitchforks if she doesn't join the group think.

But the thing is, the OP doesn't need to love BBC Sherlock as much as Guy Richie's. No one is making her. No one cares.

People treating the other side like shit goes both ways, and I really wish it would quit. It's a stupid rivalry, that honestly, the OP doesn't have to help keep going.

You had me at, "I'll watch you through the chimney."

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Aaaaand this is why my kid doesn't watch new Looney Tunes. Stalking is totes hilarious when crazy women do it, amirite?

And if they do have a decent fandom mostly due to ho-yay, it'll be filled with the most insipid fans you could possibly find anywhere. (Hello, Wolf's Rain.)

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
wow internalized misogyny much

[identity profile] imati-lau.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
That is exactly what you should tell her. Maybe she hasn't even realize it, or maybe she has but doesn't know how to stop. At any rate, she should know how her behavior is affecting others. If you feel like you are walking on eggshells all the time with her, then maybe things habe gotten a little too far. Good luck!

[identity profile] darkmanifest.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Probably so. But I'm thankful for this reminder, because I've recently been so sick of every show with a pair of close-buddy main characters having them A) always be male, or B) female, but full of ecchi bullshit. So I put this my list.

[identity profile] megalomaniageek.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
This is one of the few secrets that has made me the least bit paranoid. I know it's not about me because it doesn't describe my behavior well enough, but it's close enough to give me pause, though typically if I say "I'll read it!" then either I actually do or I just forget.
I'm a bit more lax about this when I'm anon because I know the person can't be waiting for *my* comment, and sometimes the fics I'm linked to are just so unpleasant for me personally that I back-button away and want to pretend like the whole thing never happened. There are times when a certain fic just reads as utterly OoC to me but I can't find a way to explain it without seeming like I'm hating on the kink being used or something. I mean, I guess I could say "the way this has been done seems utterly implausible" but I just really hate tearing fics apart and telling the author that I pretty much hate it at its core. I'm much more comfortable critiquing a fic that has some things I really like and some other things that could be fixed.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. If I think something stops, I stop watching it. I never understood people who continue to invest in something that they claim to hate.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
I always thought Crystal's design was ugly, even when I played the game as a kid (I appreciated finally being able to play as a girl though).

So I welcomed Lyra with open arms.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
It's not misogynistic to have a preference for the type of character you prefer to have as a video game avatar. If she was saying she hates all girly-girls it would be different.

This especially makes sense when you consider the fandom. Sporty clothes make a lot more darned sense.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
No, nothing to do with slut shaming. I simply feel uncomfortable when shows shove breasts and asses in my face with a wink-wink nudge-nudge, convinced they are turning me on when they are not. All it makes me think is "this is not for me."

[identity profile] darkmanifest.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
That may just be the best thing in the history of the human race.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, god forbid they have a girly girl as the protagonist! The horror!

Guess what? It's not sexist to have the female character look cutesy. If EVERY female protagonist in Pokemon was unbearably feminine then maybe I could understand being tired of it, but the heroines in RSE and BW aren't girly. Even the girl from FRLG isn't all that cutesy. So we have an almost even mix of girly girls and tomboys.

You have no reason to bitch.

Zoe Saldana?

[identity profile] oohasparklie.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed so much. Yet another fandom lost to hate and negativity. Sigh.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
wait... you're serious? you think that RDJ and Jude Law are better actors than Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman? to each their own, i guess, but wow.

[identity profile] dragonsofeden.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, the quality of trolling has really gone down lately.
