HI THERE. I THINK WE SHOULD BECOME FRIENDS.

...no, seriously XD Send me a pm, because I want to get to know you :D The movie catapulted me back into my childhood and into a full-blown obsession with Tintin <3 And of course, I do ship these two precious men <3 The original comics are so full of "aww" inducing bromance and comfortable showing of affection that it's hardly a surprise XD

[identity profile] vethica.livejournal.com 2012-01-28 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't read the comics all that much as a kid, but the movie had me shipping it super hard too. No shame, OP. Have you checked out the kink meme (http://tintin-kinkmeme.dreamwidth.org/1701.html)?

[identity profile] copperiisulfate.livejournal.com 2012-01-28 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
haha yess, the undertones (overtones?) completely blindsided me because i was not expecting that at all

(Anonymous) 2012-01-28 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
It's funny how people say TinTin was such a part of their childhood when I never even heard of Tintin until this community.

Tintin was my childhood hero, too (I'm from Europe, lots of us read Tintin), and even though I don't watch movies with slash goggles on (though I do like both het and slash), I still noticed the slashiness LOLZ! My reaction to it surprised me, too. Some of the slash art I've seen since then made me go O___O and \o/ at the same time.

[identity profile] cloud-riven.livejournal.com 2012-01-29 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, same.

It's specifically the movie versions only though for me. Can't see it at all in the cartoon or comics, even after trying to revisit it with slash goggles, so I tend to just skip fanwork of those two that refers or takes place in those.

[identity profile] itzechan.livejournal.com 2012-01-29 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
I got out of the movie theater feeling so many shipping feelings about them two <3

And then I felt sad for not knowing Tintin before. Really sad. But that got quickly resolved when I began reading the comics. Now I'm only missing the first two, King Ottokar's Sceptre and Alph-art!

I, then again, think that Anakin in Episode III when he clearly started becoming more and more evil, was pretty much exploding and imploding all over myself because that's when Hayden Christensen got hot in my eyes.

But yeah. Darth Vader is still... I don't know. At least one of the most kick-ass villains in movie history but I sort of kind of have a bit of a thing for him too.

Oh Christ what's wrong with me

Vader was the first villain I liked. I'm not sure I'd say it was a crush or anything... I was pretty young when the first movie (A New Hope) came out.

But yeah, he's awesome. (-:

I still can't mentally reconcile that Anakin and Vader are the same character.
I know they are. But my mind can't process it. It feels like they're too different.

Do it anyway, and post in a kink meme (if your fandom has one) or with a sock. Or not--own that ship hate, OP, if it comes down to it. The biggest problem with a lot of fandoms is fans not accepting new things or new perspectives, you know.

Kinda reminds me of Meyer saying she is anti-human. It explains a LOT of those books, really. As the only "awesome" people are non-human.

But yeah, I kinda agree. If you hate humans just for being human... there tends to be issues there. (Don't get me wrong, humans can suck. But we can be mindblowingly awesome too. To hate humans across the board often falls over into 'cynical like whoa' territory for me.)

Well, I'm pretty sure I'd still own Labyrinth if the Goblin King was Michael Jackson. It would be a whole different flavor of camp, though, that's for sure. Jareth might be able to actually dance instead of just sort of bobbing back and forth!

On the other hand, there'd be no DANCE MAGIC DANCE and I don't know what my life would be like without that soundtrack.

NS, NF, etc

(Anonymous) 2012-01-29 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
If fanfic authors would quit their damn complaining about how reviewers review, they might get more reviews and/or kudos. The whiners leave a bad taste in my mouth for all fanfic authors actually since I can never remember which ones are the whiners and which aren't. One of these days I'm going to buy an account just so I track and ignore these whiners.

I loved the kudos on AO3 since it allowed me to say that I liked/loved the fic w/o having to type it up, esp. when I'm on my mobile device reading. Sometimes I'd comment.

I'm mostly a lurker and I don't enjoy having to find various ways of saying that I liked your fic when I'm reading several fics by the same author in a row and wanted to comment. Kudos let me do that w/o a hassle.

Not to mention that I and probably others feel weird commenting on how much I liked your PWP story! I did comment on someone's LJ once that I liked their PWP fic and they reacted like I was some kind of weirdo (wth, author, isn't that why you wrote it?!), so no, I don't comment on those at all ever since then. Left kudos though on the AO3 PWP fics.

But, no, that wasn't good enough for certain authors who complained that they'd rather get no comments than a kudo. They hate kudos with the passion of 10,000 fiery suns. They want it gone. By God, those reviewers can post and say they liked the fic instead of leaving a kudo, even on the PWP ones that people might be embarrassed to admit liking (admittedly, I did find this argument saner than the author who reacted like I was weird for liking the PWP fic she wrote. One of the whiners said that's why she wrote it in the first place!).

Well, screw them. They got their wish. Now, I very rarely leave comments and I no longer give kudos at all. No matter if I loved the fic and it's the fifth time I'm re-reading it. I might rethink this if the authors have a kudos policy on their profile/story (ie. state if they want kudos or not) but until then...../kanyeshrug.

Oh, and, if someone reviews something in a comment that's longer than I really this, it's only polite to acknowledge, even a "I'm glad you loved it," is great. It really pisses me off to leave a review of how much I liked your fic and quote my fave parts and talk about it and to get nothing, no even a, "I'm glad you loved it," in return. If I've done all that, I've really loved the fic. It doesn't not encourage a reviewer to comment. Well, not me, at least.
