14. What they call 'woman's inhumanity to woman' is just found in fandom in the same way as it is everywhere else. Female characters get called whores and bitches by female fans, but then other flesh and blood women do, too. I remember a feminist reading of Snow White that some cultural theorist gave on NPR once--the queen only has power in her kindgom because of her beauty, and so she has to kill any female rivals in her kingdom who might ever be fairer than she, if she wants to stay queen. But then, presumably, Snow White herself would also have to do the same thing if she wanted to remain queen, since she also only has power because of her beauty--after all, she only ever defeated the queen, and not the underlying system that made the queen what she was. ^^

20. I love Light as much as L, even if he is (or rather, *because* he is :3) a twisted neurotic little preening narcissist. . .and 'good' and 'evil' don't mean much in that universe anyhow. . .but truly, every time I hear someone defend what Light did as objectively right, or the world he intended to create as a 'good' place to live, a tiny anarchist in the back of my head kills a kitten. Please, think of the. . .you know. XD

OMG ME TOO~! It's been my dream since I first discovered fanfic *coughcoughcough* years ago.

5. I don't get how he even has fangirls. He has been in a combined total of like...10 minutes of the anime and 5 pages of manga. There's nothing to be a fan of.

17. Every time I see crap like that, part of my soul dies. I've given up on ever finding anything decent on ff.net because it's stuffed full of that AU highschool bullshit where everyone is so OOC they might as well be entirely different characters with the same names. That, and Sues.

19. THANK YOU. That is exactly how I feel too!

10

[identity profile] elendraug.livejournal.com 2007-07-11 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Holy shit, I've wanted to do that since I got into fandom. IT WOULD BE LULZTASTIC. XD Best of luck!

[identity profile] crackjaw.livejournal.com 2007-07-11 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
15. Seriously, what's the diff between iconning fanart and iconning manga? I don't get it.

Also, I think I know who you might be referring to.

Also, 10.

11. Hands down. He's so awesome! ♥

24. I agree whole-heartedly. Series like One Piece really teach lessons in friendship and I can't even explain all the other things. Consequences and responsibilities too, I guess. :x I sucks at words. But you get the point.

4. KEEP ON WITH THE SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS LOVE, BABIES. And in all seriousness, that game breathed a lot of new life into me - as corny as that sounds. It is amazing.

20. lol, [livejournal.com profile] capslock_bleach was fun for the first... what? Two or three months?

(Anonymous) 2007-07-12 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Bleach is a shounen manga and does not center around romance, but friendship and fighting. Lots of fighting. Lots and lots of fighting.

(Anonymous) 2007-07-12 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Same mouse saying that this is a response to the ten thousand tons of pairing worrying I have seen for this series.

I've also seen secrets to this effect, too.

It felt good getting that out.

13. Gunblader is such a stupid word, for either Seifer or Squall.

20. You sounded smart, and then you blow it all with the childish Near bashing.

Light was the bad guy. Yes, there's more to it, but it still boils down to Light being the bad guy. He had good intentions, lots of villians do, he just developed a god complex, purposely used everyone around him, and became the very thing he wanted to eradicate. Everything, the battle with L, the battle with Mello and Near, it was all a game to him. He practically spit on L and Near for not wanting to use the Death Note. He thought the best way to fix the world was to essentially make everyone live in fear while he ruled on his high throne as friggin' dictator. You've got to admit he's at least an asshole.

And I think you're the one who needs to be more reasonable. OH NOES, SOMEONE DOESN'T LIKE MY FAVORITE CHARACTER. THEREFORE THEM = LOWER LIFEFORM. HOW DARE THEY HAVE AN OPINION DIFFERENT FROM MINE.

And I say all this as someone who actually does like Light. I may not agree with all of his personality traits or his motivations, but I did like him as an interesting, complex lead character.

And lawl, Light/Raito wank. Isn't it pronounced pretty much the same way in both spellings?

22. Not to be a douche or anything, but...there's at least one secret like this with like, 80% sentence matching here in every post the past couple days. What's with the influx?

12. I thought it was very dignified. Very... personal.

19. I don't disagree with you. Its fine that you think that way.

But I love my life. I love being a geek and a dork and being with my friends who are just as geeky or dorky. I'm not ashamed of what I like and what I have. In fact, theres a wonderful freedom in just being who I am and now having to worry (too much) about if what I like doing in my spare time and what makes me happy, whatever entertainment it is, might upset my friends or make them hate me. Not anymore. No, I don't care too much about my appearance, if any, and dressing pretty makes me uncomfortable. No, I'm not quiet about my fandoms, in fact, I may be way too loud.

But I'm happy. And it sounds like to me you're not.

I don't know, maybe you can't have it all--your friends who don't like anime or games or whatever and your friends that do--but your way of seeing things makes me sad for you. Not pity, just...sad.

And if your friends really are your friends, I think they would understand if you told them what you like. It doesn't change who you are, right? Interests don't define a person's personality traits. PLEASE, stay away from the stereo-types, and carry a 'Sue bat for your own protection.

I really don't know where this is going or why I decided to comment with it, but...God, I don't even know you, but JEEZ, be happy, 'kay?

15. It does sadden me when permission isn't asked for and credit isn't given. But if an iconmaker wants to keep doing this, then eventually the artist will up and go and that's that. :/ Eh.

(Anonymous) 2007-07-12 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
It's so immature and selfish in my eyes. If it bothers the artists that much, I don't understand why the iconmakers can't just let them have it their way. It's not like not using fanart would actually make iconmakers so upset they would stop making icons. Whereas the reverse is true.

I'm glad I got positive responses to my secret, though. I was halfway afraid, given the number of well-known iconists who make no secret about their fanart policies, that I would be flamed halfway to hell.

So many people agreeing. XD

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's wanted to do that. *_*

[identity profile] rabanastre.livejournal.com 2007-07-12 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
15. Get over it. Srsly. The so called "100x100 sparkly crap" is not that big of a deal. And at least the people who say they got fanart off of 4chan aren't claiming it as their own.

*uses fanart icon*

(Anonymous) 2007-07-12 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Not claiming it as your own" doesn't stop the artists from getting pissed off and closing their sites.

If I get over it... that won't change a damn thing. The artists won't "get over it." Isn't obeying artist's terms just the more mature and responsible thing for iconmakers to do? The more kind thing? Oh wait, common decency, the internet... whatever made me think those could coexist?

19: You sound like me last year. Buuut, you can be a nerdy loser *and* dress well, have friends, talk about politics, drive cars and watch TV and act boring like your parents do normal-people stuff. It's only anime, video games, whatever. Liking it doesn't instantly give you a criminal record or anything (unless you try drawing manga in art college - INSTANT LIFE SENTENCE). Most people don't even notice, let alone care, unless they're into it, too. Just be yourself, m'dear :D

20

[identity profile] allsunday.livejournal.com 2007-07-12 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
I'd tell you to go shove it up your ass, but obviously something's already stuck in there. People are allowed to dislike Light if they want, and I say that as a Light fan. He was a genocidal psychopath with a god-complex, and not everyone's going to be into that or approve of it like you do. They're also allowed to like pairings and speak of them openly in whatever community they please, and WHO THE FUCK CARES IF IT'S LIGHT OR RAITO?! Jesus. Get over yourself.

3. Oh man, that is awesome. XD It really could have been worse, though, given some of his other roles. But still. :Db

10. Seconding the love for that here! (Well at this point, it's not really so much seconding as it is millionthing, but, uh.)
