Is technophile's most recent post saying we have to wait a week for more secret posts or we have to wait a week to submit more secrets or secret submissions post #77 will start being posted on the 21st.

Gaaaaah I'm confused! :(

Friending Meme 3, Y/Y/FUCK YEAH?

Troll secrets?

[identity profile] aliaras.livejournal.com 2008-07-14 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I noticed there were two secrets in the "troll" category today but I can't find out which ones. While I understand they were probably all incendiary and whatsit, being in the loltroll category kinda means people don't take them seriously...anyways, /beg links to troll secrets? Mostly because I'm always looking to see if my secrets make it into bottom categories so I can fix them.

(Anonymous) 2008-07-19 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
I posted two secrets as part of Submissions Post #80. Neither were posted and neither were included in the "Secrets Not Posted" either.

I'm confused. :-P

Can we agree that secrets with nothing but "I'D HIT IT" are not, in fact, secrets? I can understand if people have explanations as to why they're ashamed for their attraction, but a lot of the secrets are just statements of fact. If "OTP OTP OTP!" isn't a secret, then "I'D HIT IT" shouldn't be, either. They still leave the same question: why is it a secret?

Also the personal attack policy really, really needs to be clarified. It's a personal attack if you show their LJ name, but not a personal attack if you show their name blurred with their default userpic and their journal title? Just because they're less easily identified doesn't make it any less obvious to the person being attacked. Why not just put as a rule that if you're going to bash anybody, you don't use any identifications in the background, personal or not?

You're doing a great job here, it just seems that people are trying to get around your rules.

Concern

I would think that secret 171 (http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/7717/xflamejw4.png) from post 566 (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomsecrets/180574.html) would be considered inappropriate. "Go kill yourself", even if it isn't visibly directed to a specific person, is a bit harsh. Possibly even abuse?

(Anonymous) 2008-07-25 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I submitted a secret in Post #81
It was the one about a Wolf's Rain shirt
Why wasn't it posted?

(Anonymous) 2008-08-07 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Could you possibly make seperate comment threads for each secret, instead of having 12 pages of each response to a secret so scattered?

Hello!

I'm one of the maintainers of [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets_o. We just built a multilingual version of your community. Can we become affiliates? Is it possible for you to mention us for a week in your secret posts near the bottom? We're just starting out and publicity is much needed!

Also, since our community runs almost like yours, can we yank the majority of your FAQ as well?

Thank you very much!

Current secret submissions post = "You are not authorized to view this protected entry."

I have secrets to submit ;_;

(Anonymous) 2008-08-19 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
By accident, I posted an incorrect version of a secret today, so it will not be officially revealed for a while. I have the correct version on my tinypic account, it has a slightly different URL. I realize that once a secret is posted it is posted, so I would understand if the answer to this is no, but is it possible to do a sort of exchange?

Personal attack secret

I'm pretty sure this was mine since I didn't see it up at all. Why? You allow "This so and so Rper ruined fandom for me" Why is mine any different?

Do posts that rant about other people's secrets (like stating that they don't like 'I'd hit it' posts or the phrase 'obvious poster is obvious') actually count as secrets? Maybe they fit with the not!secrets better?

(Anonymous) 2008-08-30 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Just to clarify, you want us to submit the text link to the images (http://xxxxxxxx), not the HTML code (a href="http://xxxxxxx."....), right?

(Anonymous) 2008-09-02 11:44 am (UTC)(link)
I realized that I made a stupid spelling mistake on a secret I submitted. D: Is there anything that can be done about this? (I'm guessing no? Well, shit. If that is the case.)

Permission to use the [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets format as a meme at a fic challenge community? As in, people submit secrets about the things they are writing for the challenge.

[identity profile] confessionmods.livejournal.com 2008-09-18 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
Hello, mods. [livejournal.com profile] ljconfesses is a community much like the secret communities, based off of PostSecret. The idea is to include more than just secrets. The mods were wondering if you do any sort of plugging or affiliation. We'd love to get some recognition and get off of the ground. Thank you for your time.

[identity profile] thegrownupthing.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 11:25 am (UTC)(link)
this may have been asked already but I didn't find it in the FAQ.

is there a particular reason why you don't require the posters to write underneath the image what fandom the secret represents, and concentrate those explanation in the 1st comment thread instead?

I just think it's useless to have to scroll up and down to match the comments to the corresponding secrets, when the explanation could easily be right underneath each image...

But I've only just started lurking here so maybe there is a reason why you don't do it and I don't know.

(Anonymous) 2008-09-26 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I posted a secret recently that I haven't seen submitted, and the post says there are zero secrets left to be posted.

I checked all of the unposted secrets, because I was afraid a portion of it would be mistaken for a watermark (it's part of the secret) but it's not there either.

If I link to the secret, could you tell me if you got it at all - and if so, why it wasn't posted?

Ooh,I uh,just noticed you promoting the PW kink meme in today's post.

Is there any chance you could lend the Batman Kink Meme a hand? :D
[ http://capsrock.livejournal.com/600.html#comments ]

We've got a ton of unfilled requests, and I don't think that many people even know about it. [[just seeing as there's so many Batman secrets here]]

i've noticed a lot of blurring between secrets and not-secrets. You've posted secrets that are replies to other secrets, that are replies to their own secret, and the classic "OTP"-style secret that usually wouldn't be posted. I think it would be in your best interest to redefine the rules of what is and isn't a secret---and make the community aware of that.

My idea: all secrets must obviously be secrets, or must explain why they're secrets in the first place.

Example A) Fuck you, I'm a lion!
Example B) I want to run around town telling people "Fuck you, I'm a lion!" Secret because I am actually a bear.
Example C) I have dreams where I get fucked by bears and lions.

B is a secret because it's explained (and people at this comm seem to love explaining themselves), C is a secret because it's obviously secretive, but A is not. You'd have a lot of freedom to judge what is and isn't a secret, but if anything you'd get to use the ax more than before, because the following would no longer be secrets:

- If you like this thing you're retarded!
- Fandom is my life!
- Am I a bad fangirl?
- I love everybody at this site!
- I'm really unique because of this guy I RP!
- I used to ship HIM and HIM, but now I ship HIM and HIM and HER and HIM OT4 4LYFE where is the fanfic ;_;

I like this place a lot, but it's become so popular and loosely ruled that a lot of the "secrets" are just self-congratulatory bullshit, sniping about other fans, and thinly-veiled advertisements for RP/LJ communities. It would be way better if you were more demanding about what a secret actually entailed, so instead of having to scroll through God knows how many crap posts we could get back to the good stuff. Like "My cousin touched me inappropriately and I thought it was awesome because it reminded me of my favorite anime." Let's have some real secrets again, please.

Why don't you make a spinoff comm called [livejournal.com profile] cannot_unsee for things people can't unsee?
