I always thought that the latter part of the secret was kind of implied, yeah, but then again, my Snilly/Snapefen goggles have always been way too tight.

Except that we never saw her responding to his affections? She obviously cared about him a lot, but there was always this tenseness and lack of romance in the few interactions of theirs we saw.

While I could dig that take on her, I think that would ridiculously unfair to Snape, unless she truly, completely, did not notice that he was in love with her.

If she took his virginity and knew he was crushing on her but still treated him as a friend as we can glimpse from the books... yeah, that was using him.

If she took his virginity but for some reason never realized how much he liked her, then; I don't know, I know we don't know a lot of her character, but I don't think she was that clueless.

And if she didn't have sex with him but had sex with everyone else, that was like telling him that he wasn't worth or attractive enough, and while I could see trying to differentiate friends from lovers, there is still some self-esteem messing misunderstandings stuff that I suppose happens a lot amongst teenagers (and even adults), but I think she would come to regret that very heavily and I just didn't get that vibe from her; but again, we only got glimpses of her and her generation.

I don't agree. My headcanon Lily is both kind and perceptive enough to realize that sexually taking advantage of Snape is the last thing she should do.

I completely agree. That is exactly as she was always spoken about in book, as she was characterized. We didn't get a lot of characterization from her but "kind and smart" were pretty much on the top of the list. I guess you could think she was sexually active if you want, but it seems unlikely.

Ugghhhh no. I'm cool with Lily being sexually adventurous, but with Snape? Come on. Their friendship was crap to begin with.

And lets be honest, Snape was not attractive. He seemed to have terrible hygiene (might not have been so bad with GOOD hygiene, but really). A pretty, popular, intelligent, and vivacious girl like Lily would have MANY options--JKR said as much, lots of guys liked her. In canon she had no romantic interest in Snape, so if she were to go for anyone, even casually, I don't think Snape would be a top option for her. Not to mention it would be really fucking awkward because she probably knew he was interested in her romantically.
