4. I think I'd go gay for Latifah. She is beautiful.

7. Haha. Nice. Love the font.

10. I've actually read Beowuff too! Did you know they are coming out with a movie? It will in no way be better than the Wishbone.

#12 - when was it ever "intellectual"? Its sole plotline is "Agents make sarcastic comments and kill Mary Sue in graphic manner, or else beat possessed characters about the head with books or DVDs". Why is it "not about anime"? It's "about" any fandom you want it to be about.

Okay, my early PPCs were shit. But it helped me learn. It encouraged me, because while my writing might have iffy characterisation and lousy dialogue, I never made Blaise Zabini the beautiful daughter of Legolas and Neil Gaiman's Death, and if that writer could learn and improve (which I think she did eventually - at least she took down the fic when it was confirmed that Blaise was a boy) so could I.

(Anonymous) 2007-08-07 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
The PPC started out as an elitist pair of writers with a twisted sense of humor. Other elitist writers with twisted senses of humor joined in. The PPC Message board was full of really fascinating discussions about everything from Tolkien to politics to zucchini. The PPC stories were not the entire PPC-- the PPC was what happened when people who were fed up with stupid shit created a little refuge from it.

Maybe I'm romanticizing, but that place is gone, and I miss it.

Incidentally: yes, it's my secret.

11. I know some people that have had smear campaigns and petty slight art drawn of them. Usually, the people who count do notice, and all these people do is make enemies.

14. I've never read Deathnote. But I didn't even know there were many major female characters in it from the abundance of slash art I'd seen done, and that says something.

[identity profile] terrie.livejournal.com 2007-08-07 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
14. Yeah I know, until I started watching this comm, I had no idea there were any lady characters either. :/ Oh fangirls.

I wanted to comment on other things in this post but nothing else mattered after I saw your secret. YOU BET YOUR ASS I SHIP DEATH/RUDOLPH. HELL FREAKING YES. But I totally can't get into actress slash. I completely find them untouchable. XD

Oh god, Elisabeth, how I love you.

HEY WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE ELISABETH CAST?

7. Since I come from a entirely webdesign related community that experienced a 3-year-long icon revolution, I have to say I sort of agree here. While those kinds of icons don't bug me--in fact, I often like them, and use them--I don't think they're the epitome of a high-quality icon, either. But that opinion is subjective, anyway. Since this was a community full of hard-core designers, we put more effort into our icons than adjusting the contrast or slapping on someone else's texture, lest we be attacked for being mediocre.

But again, standards are different on LJ. The way I see it, if it's pretty, I'm going to use it.

[identity profile] cephiedvariable.livejournal.com 2007-08-07 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
13. STOP THE PRESSES, A SECRET ABOUT ELISABETH HELLO I LOVE YOU! :D :D :D :D Even though I cannot properly discuss with you your dilemma, since I'm not too familiar with the Japanese adaption. I'm all about the European versions (yum, Vienna Revival).

... if I had Death/Rudolf slash, however, I would share it with you in a second. I MEAN. THAT SHIT IS CANON. DEATH TOTALLY HIT THAT. I MEAN, THAT ENTIRE FAMILY. HE WAS ALL OVER IT LIKE... LIKE... DEATH, ON DOOMED AUSTRIAN NOBLES. O__O

16. I don't like Pocahontas either. :P I feel bad since the animation is gorgeous and the music is wonderful, but holy shit is it badly written.

17. Oh god, oh god. Back in seventh grade when it was grand spanking new, my best friend was ADDICTED to that show and made me watch it with her every single day. I pretended to hate it passionately (ha ha ha), but I have a secret fondness for it in the depth of my black, black soul. After watching the first two seasons I got kind of tangently invested in the drama of Tabitha and Ethan and Sheridan and Tim Tim and I totally don't remember any of the other characters. HOW DID THINGS TURN OUT FOR ALL THOSE TRAGIC LOVERS ANYWAYS?

[identity profile] iverin.livejournal.com 2007-08-07 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
>.> LOL. Death has hos in different area codes? Except they're all in the same family. 8D

[identity profile] schizo-niko.livejournal.com 2007-08-07 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
4. Right with you, mate. Queen Latifa always makes me really happy, and I've never seen her in a bad role. She's gorgeous and amazing.

5. Still didn't stop it from being a pain in the ass, but it's Kingdom Hearts and my love for it is unconditional. *shrug*

8. The fanbrats that make Mary Sues grow up to be sensible people. I suppose you and I and a myriad of other people have this in common. You've gotta start somewhere, and most of us do it very ungracefully. When I first got the itch to write I was too young to be imaginative, and did the age-old self-insert because it was fun and easy. So yes, I'm right with you.

16. *wubble face* Pocahontas is my favourite Disney movie. I wanted to be just like her when I was little and I watched it like eight times a week. But to each their own! There are Disney movies that aren't so great, and everyone's got their thing.

19. When people gank characters and write about them, they are playing in someone else's sandbox and should abide by their rules. You're totally right, and what's the point of writing about them if you're going to make them really OOC, or butcher canon? Why are you writing about them if you have to twist it to like it?

HAY LETS HAVE A DISNEY LOVE IN

[identity profile] cephiedvariable.livejournal.com 2007-08-07 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
There are Disney movies that aren't so great, and everyone's got their thing.

Mmm, that's something I love about Disney movies though. There's the ones that everyone loves like 'Aladdin' and 'The Lion King' and 'Beauty and the Beast', ect., but beyond that personal preference becomes almost a: "you can tell something about someone's personality" thing. I'm hard on Pocahontas, but my favorites are, like, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Great Mouse Detective, both of which are pretty flawed films in their own right. This reveals that I... uh... like fluffy, animated versions of my favorite classical literature? COME ON DISNEY. YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO ADAPT THE BROTHERS KARAMAZOV.

22. Wait, what's the point of writing fanfic for something you're not a fan of? I mean, I can understand liking only certain parts of cannon and only focusing on those, but if you haven't seen any of it whatsoever, how can you be interested in writing for it?

(Anonymous) 2007-08-09 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
You actually can get character concepts without reading/viewing canon material. I don't write for fandoms I don't know, myself, but I've been tempted to before. I liked the characters (some of them) but hated the show. And people keep on telling me that if I don't see the story I want out there, I should write it myself, so... XP

5.

[identity profile] countesszephyr.livejournal.com 2007-08-07 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Haha. I LOVE YOU. Everyone who says "not confusing -- annoying/boring" sounds like their covering up for how pissed they when "OMG WHUT THAT DIDN'T BREAK THE ENEMY'S COMBO WHYYYY?" happened to them. Either that or they need to gtfo of the fandom if they hate the game so much.

Anyway. I mostly love you because I hatehatehate when people say "oh, yeah, I know everything about the whole entire Kingdom Hearts canon -- OH EXCEPT I didn't play CoM cause it's dumb, but I read the script." wtf. gtfo.

[identity profile] floofehsheep.livejournal.com 2007-08-07 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
19. Agreed. Not that I bitch at those who don't necessarily follow canon, though. I just won't read their fiction.

Canon nazi, and pretty proud of it.

9. I ♥ the corinthian, that was one of my favorite arcs~!

#22

[identity profile] valkyriur.livejournal.com 2007-08-07 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
#22, I'm agreeing. The fandom didn't used to be any better than it is now. It's just like people looking back at their younger years and saying it was so much better. :P Grass is always greener.

Re: #22

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-08-07 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno, genuinely and objectively compare circa 2001-FFVII fandom with 2007 and there's a pretty significant difference.

The Corinthian is, to this day, one of my favorite characters in all of the Sandman arcs. He's just so fascinating. And badass.

4: Don't blame you. Lovely woman. :P

17: I remember watching it when it came out. Crazy, but it was like crack and I couldn't stop watching. :D

8. Freaking word. :/ All the rampant Mary-Sue hate sucks.

22. People always bitch about the good old days. *g*
