Personally, I'd find it less stressful; I'm not comfortable with monogamy precisely because I don't like the idea of being all things to one person and vice versa. (I'm not so good with hate sex, though; can't quite imagine incorporating that quadrant into my life.)

A monogamous relationship doesn't necessarily entail being all things to one person. In fact, I would consider that to be extraordinarily unhealthy.

I am married to one person, and what we expect from one another is a combination of basic respect and what the other is able to give. We both recognize that there are some things that each of us must get from outside the relationship. It's just that each of us prioritizes the other, and neither of us has sex with anyone else.

Grant you, I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with not being monogamous. It may be right for me, but it's certainly not right for everyone. I'm only saying that being with one person might not be precisely what you think it is.

I was mostly joking but man idk I have a really hard time approaching people I'm interested in I couldn't deal with it if I had to do it four times (or five I guess since ashen requires three people?). I think it would be easier in some ways, like maybe in some ways it would be healthier if we considered hate-attraction a thing that existed and their were conventions for having that kind of relationship. And people wouldn't presume things about myself and my best male friend, I could just say "We're pale." But anyway...yeah.

Wow way to not get what I was saying at all and be kinda mean about it. It makes more sense for me to have words for these relationships we already enter into. The way its laid out makes sense, it makes my relationships make sense. I don't want to be a troll. I just like the way Hussie has laid out their relationship structure.

A lot of people I see talking about how great troll romance is tend to forget that bit. I didn't say you wanted to be a troll, I just pointed out that their romance system is built around the idea that they will eventually be servicing a giant grub that lays an entire new generation (by force, if you're on Alternia). They're an alien species.

Like the system all you want, but if you're defining yourself and your relationships by it, it's worth taking a step back and remembering why trolls have these romance structures in the first place.

I'm the opposite, the more I learn about quadrants the less I'm interested in ever checking out Homestuck. It's one of the aspects that really doesn't make sense in my head.

not really? at the very least, when I've tried to read up on them on the wiki and understand them, (to understand people defining ships in my fandom that way) I don't really go to myself "wow, that sounds just like my relationship with XYZ." To me I just go "Wow, that sounds really alien."

It's not a big part of the plot. People latched on to it because world building and rp-wise it's fun, but I'd say overall it takes up less then 50 of 5000+ pages.

Yeah, I see where you're coming from. Most of the concepts are stuff that I like seeing in media, and it really helps specify the kind of interactions I want from a ship. But the only one I'd actually want to have is a moirallegiance. A nonsexual romance that exists for the purpose of making both parties better, more functional human beings? Actually, I think it would make things more complicated. If you mediate between two friends and have a crush on one of them then you can still date them if you want. If you were auspiticizing between two friends and had a crush on one of them you'd have to keep it to yourself because you can't be in more than one quadrant with a person.

Also, if you're a friend who helps keep another friend under control, no one would blame you if they did something awful because their actions aren't your responsibility. If you were a moirail, then people would be more likely to blame you for not doing a good enough job.

Tacking romance onto any relationship automatically makes things more difficult; putting them onto relationships you could already have without the label is just making things unnecessarily complicated.

Aren't quadrants based on human relationships anyway? Or specifically how people act anonymously over the internet, since the whole comic is based on the internet.

Nah, the quadrants are just a very complicated alien romance system. The author designed it that way in response to shippers, I think - poking fun at the amount of seriousness romance is treated in fandom.

I like how human is in scare quotes. Like, sure, the lamestream media will tell you humans want all that love crap, but really people aren't happy unless they're also making out with people they hate, and stopping someone from being a homicidal maniac.
