Do you have any pics of yourself in full costume we could see? Maybe you were so realistically corpsey it was off-putting to people.

Were you really into character? People might have been uncomfortable making you break character just for pictures.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-29 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Or maybe they weren't in character at all; doesn't matter how good your costume is if no one notices you.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-29 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe people thought you were the real deal and didn't want to get their brains eaten.

lol great!

like everyone else, my thought was that you were maybe too scary to be approached. If you want people to ask you for pictures, maybe try going less all-out and see if you prefer that?

Heck, maybe everyone at the convention has paparazzi-type photos of you on their facebooks with the caption "there was a real zombie at the con!! I risked my life getting this snapshot for u guise!!1" idk man, I've never been to a convention. ^^

*hugs*

I know that must be disappointing, OP, especially if you put that much time into it.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-29 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Prolly cuz you weren't a *sexy* zombie.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-29 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
I'm thinking this was the reason. They like the sexy ones. (if you are a woman) Show a bit of decaying tits and ass next time.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-29 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
see, and all I'm hearing is, there's a reason no one wanted your photo and it doesn't have anything to do with how long you spent on your makeup.

there are tons of reasons, good and bad, that people don't take photos at cons. some of them are shallow douchebags who only want pics of hot girls and t&a. some of them are braindead fangirls who only want pics of their favorite characters no matter how shitty the costume is. some of them are secret elitists who only take pics of really gorgeous and well-made costumes. including really well-done horror makeup. so if you're neither hot, cosplaying the current hot trendy yaoi-bait, or making an amazingly stunning costume, you're probably gonna get shafted. it may be shitty, but it's how this thing happens.

can't speak for the zombie walk though. man I didn't even know people cared about photos at those things, never been to one.

Maybe you can do photoshoots and share pictures of your costumes online if you want more attention!

I agree with everyone else OP, you're never going to know the reason until you post a picture. Put a bar over your eyes to hide you identity if you want. This is generally a nice place and you should get some honest answers.

That happens to me ALL the time :(
I always theorized that it was because I'm a female that usually cosplays as men (my Leon Kennedy was largely ignored, while the derpy guy next to me got tons of pictures taken). But I'm like you, completely detail-obsessed, spending hours and countless funds only to be generally ignored compared to the others. :/ in short: I feel your pain.

OP Here

(Anonymous) 2013-01-29 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
I don't have any pictures of me from the conventions I went to, it's been a while since I was at one, and I don't have my costumes any more. Mostly this secret was about the zombie walk, which was a few months ago. I just don't know why people wouldn't want to take my picture, but my dad wore something he bought at a Halloween store and got pulled aside for a photo at least three times. The only pictures I've been about to find of me at the walk were taken by my family. I know I probably sound a bit whiny, but it's literally like this at any kind of costumed event I go to, I'm just always ignored.

Do people in general easily approach you? Like out of cosplay, just in daily life and stuff. It might be that your body language is just naturally more closed off. Which can discourage people from interrupting you to ask for your picture.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-29 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
okay, let me be first be clear that I am not supposing anything about your costumes or costuming skill, but.
Time spent on a costume =/= good costume. Some people can whip up a better costume in an hour than others can in a month. Costuming is a skill, and like any skill, some people are just better than others.
The hours you put into your work really aren't noticed, because the people seeing your costume are only seeing the finished product. Sometimes lots of work is apparent in the final product, but not always. Unless you're telling people how long you spent on your costume, they don't know, and they don't care.

I know it sucks feeling your efforts are wasted, but the important thing is the product of your effort, not how much time you put into it.

I've been going to our annual zombie walk every year since 2006 and it's hit or miss whether I get my photo taken, but I definitely think the key with Zwalks is to go as some kind of 'character zombie', not just a random regular dead person. It doesn't have to be elaborate, but I've noticed that I've had friends pose for way more pictures when someone can refer to them as something. Like, "Hey did you see Bike Messenger Zombie?", or Pregnant Zombie in Onesie Pyjamas, Prom Queen Zombie or whatever.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-29 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
So, based on this secret, you don't go to these things for fun. You just want attention.

[personal profile] silverau 2013-01-29 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
That sucks, OP. Maybe you just have intimidating body language or something? Or maybe it's just bad luck. :/

(Anonymous) 2013-01-30 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
You know, I did a zombie walk this year and nobody wanted my picture either. I think that's okay; it was still hella fun to dress up and look disgusting and splatter myself in fake gore.

Plus I scared the shit out of a gas station clerk who very nervously asked if I needed him to call someone to help.

Try not to lose sight of how fun these things can be, with or without photos, and just remember that if they don't ask, maybe it's because you are scary as hell. :D :D :D
