16. That's great for you, but there are some of us that /prefer/ being inside for different reasons. Bad allergies, sensitive eyes, allergic to sunlight, there are a lot of reasons why people would choose it.

There are these things, they're called "hobbies", and people like to spend time doing those hobbies. Whether it's an unhealthy amount of time or not, it's entirely up to the individual how they want to spend their time.

1. so being fandom makes you fat AND anorexic.

9. wordpie

15. unfortunately, it does.

28. lol. lose. don't even start with the damn statistics for online hobbies where PEOPLE OF LIKE MIND AND PROCLIVITIES ASSEMBLE. you can't seriously be that stupid to see that statistics don't work like that.

OP here, what I meant is that if you take a diverse group of people in the real world, very few of them would be homosexual. I think I read somewhere that around 10% of the population is homosexual. Yet, when I gather my flist together, a good 70-80% of them are homosexual, or at least bi. Considering that fandom is just as diverse as the world is (you've got fans from all over the world congregating online, after all), one would think that the total percentage of homosexuals in fandom would be parallel to the worldwide percentage, give or take a little. At least, that's what I thought - if that makes me stupid, I'm sorry for being stupid. :)

15. YESSSSSSS. I LOVE YOU LETS MAKE 400 BABIES. :'D

16. I'd say deja vu but this has happened more than once before. Already been done. ;)

10 and 27. Sometimes I think these secrets are bunched together for fun.

28- o.O

Maybe because of the beautiful women in anime/tv?

As for bisexuality...because of the more diverse/accepting nature of things?

I know a few lesbians other than me, but it's not the majority. ._.

22. Yay for musicals, and double yay for Urinetown! ♥

2. WORD. Rikkai > Seigaku.

4. I love your dream, too! XD

7. I rarely do anymore. Every secret there is either about eating disorders, cutting, or angst. It's boring.

23. That's the reason I love Haruhi so much. She's genderless, and that's awesome.

28

[identity profile] friendshipbeam.livejournal.com 2007-09-05 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's because their fandoms open their minds and make them realize that it's okay to be what they are, therefore increasing the ratio of coming out. That is, if the same rules apply to closets as wardrobes.

[identity profile] luisa-f.livejournal.com 2007-09-05 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
12. I'm the same, in the books I don't feel any sort of attraction to him [or Lucious or Snape], but in the movies they're fucking sexy, they just casted some really hot actors to play them.

16. Wonderful secret, taking into account this is fandom secrets I'm sure you didn't mean to make it as wanky as possible in the least.

23. She is awesome, the way she's so open to everything, doesn't judge, and is so accepting. I guess it's the obligatory "she's the female character ruining the yaoi fangirl dream" hatred.

Re: 12

[identity profile] darkdork13.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I feel the same way about Voldemort and Lucious (but I DID fangirl Snape in the books). Nothing but loathing for the characters, but the portrayal of the characters? Teh sex.

[identity profile] allira-dream.livejournal.com 2007-09-05 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
28. I think it's part of being in the internet. Although you are coming out, you are, most of the times, doing it in a safe-enough environment, even if in the end you find out that you were just going through a phase. You are relatively safe. Much safer than, say, if you fear that your parents/family WON'T react okay to this.

16

(Anonymous) 2007-09-05 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
But what are your thoughts on yaoi?

9. Well, certainly I don't agree with commissioning fanart; I personally offer anything but because of this. I see the double standard you're talking about, but for some reason I think most people would be less inclined to commission fic anyway...

12. I would have never cared for Voldemort as a character until they cast Ralph Fiennes :[ ♥

14. AGREED. I can't ship either. (Well, except a little Harry/Luna). But I CERTAINLY don't support the canon of Remus/Tonks. He was MISERABLE. Fuck that.

15. Me too. :< I like comfort!fluff best~ ♥

26. If you want more friends in the fandom, join some Naruto comms. See who else you can find~

but for some reason I think most people would be less inclined to commission fic anyway...

so by your reasoning if a fic were commissioned, it would be okay to sell it?

5. I don't know if this has already been said, but there IS a live action Archie movie! It's not that bad, thought it's not really that spectacular, either. =)

27. Gintama and Excel Saga's humor is not the same kind of humor they use in SZS. Those two I can understand, but SZS relies mainly on references for its humor. It doesn't make sense because the humor doesn't transcend to other audiences, not because it's "bad."

10 - FTWLIEKWHOA! :D

27 - While I do understand and respect that you have your own opinion about what is and isn't humorous, I can't make myself fully accept your opinion without knowing or watching what you consider funny. Go figure. ;/

(Anonymous) 2007-09-06 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
well it's like this. everyone seems to be thinking that it's because I don't understand the cultural references, but it's not that I don't understand them, it's that I don't find it funny. of course the circle will continue and they will then say, "well if you don't find it funny, then you don't really understand it." But think about it. There are things in American culture that you understand, and just don't find funny. Like oh...American Dad. It's in the same vein of comedy as The Simpsons, Futurama, and Family Guy but it's incredibly UNfunny.

as for anime shows *I* think are funny: Ouran, FMP Fumoffu, Jungle Wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu, Gurren Lagann, Damekko Doubutsu, Descendants of Darkness (even though this doesn't really parody, I love doing it myself, especially while watching it in English lol), and Papuwa. What does that say about me? Hmmm, probably that I have a damn awesome sense of humor. ;P

16. Oh no. Here we go again. Other people have the right to do whatever they want with their free time. Suck it.

18. I've always loved his dubbed voice too!

20. Yeah, Bleach does get a lot of attention, but look at it this way: more attention = more negative attention such as ship wars, character bashing, badfic, etc. As much as I've always liked Bleach, its fandom has made me quite bonkers. XD Smaller fandoms get fewer fantards.

26. I've been there. For me it's really hard to pair standoffish characters like Gaara up with anyone, and while it works for some people it may not work for others. A squee for one person isn't necessarily transferable to a squee for someone else and I hope this very closed-minded friend of yours can see that someday.

Re: 16...

I hate hiking, camping, and amusement parks, there are no movies out that I wish to see, and I don't see the point of going to the library when I can read equally good fiction on the internet from the comfort of my house. I also work my ass off, and the last thing I want to do after dealing with shitty customers and screaming children all day is spend my weekends and evenings in the worst areas of town hoping I won't get mugged, raped, or worse.

I've met and made more friends through online fandom than I ever have face to face. I refuse to say "in real life." Because these people I call "friend" are not figments of my imagination; they're real flesh-and-blood people, and I will not invalidate their friendship by implying my online social life is "fake," just because of the medium we communicate in. Dare I mention I met my girlfriend, whom I love to pieces and will soon be leaving the country to live with, through a Livejournal fandom?

No, I don't have much of a life outside of internet fandom. I prefer it that way. Because the sheer amount of bullshit I put up with offline makes me enjoy being online all the more. I might consider spending two weeks away from my laptop if the people around me didn't suck so much.

I'm actually bi. D: But I've been that way my entire life. I mean...when I was a little girl, I thought Princess Leia in that metal bikini was really HOT and my Barbies were always naked. And I never thought it was weird until I looked back on it years later. XD God I was a freak.

I pretty much don't tell people this and I'm not very open about it. XP Because I like my straightness. Or the part of me that's straight.

And I doubt I'll ever date a girl again, EVER. EVERRRRR.

22. YES. COME JOIN BROADWAY FANDOM. ♥ Broadway fandoms tend to be totally and completely awesome.

(Also, if you're looking for recs? Chess. Best Musical Everrrr. In my not-so-objective opinion.)

5. There was one- I hear. A 'they grew up and reunited' thing, I don't know much about it 'cause I never ordered it from the comic. I bet it sucked.
11. ADSNgfkbghfg. The oranges. Oh my god. I love them longtiem.
13. Looool.
28. <<; That is oddly true, I've come to note.

5. Actually, they where working on one - it was suppose to air in Spring!

13. haha! I always do that! I sit on my bed or on the couch, reading fanfics I printed out!

23. I don't find Haruhi dull at all! If anything, she's one of my favorite characters - she's so strong and sure of herself it's absolutly amazing!

28. LOL, I like how you asked that because I've wondered the same thing before (No worries, I'm straight too!) *shrugs* maybe they feel more at ease in fandoms coming out

12. Yesssss... I completely understand. Though I have to admit, Voldemort in HBP and DH was pretty intriguing to me, but even then, I never wanted to do Voldemort until Ralph Fiennes :D

22. I own like 90% of those albums, either you're not a freak, or we're both freaks :D But those soundtracks own.
