WORD WORD OMG WORD. I identify as female to male but I LOVE how Haruhi doesn't stick to one gender or another. I've seen that with males more often in anime/manga/video games, but there aren't enough girls. I can think of... Haruhi and Utena. And that's it, at least within the anime/manga/video games I've known. ...Maybe Juliet in Romeo x Juliet?

23.

[identity profile] sir-hellsing.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Most female characters in Hellsing. Starting with androgynous Sir Integra Hellsing, following with Millennium's Zorin Blitz or Rip van Winkle, and not forgetting "Sister" Heinkel Wolfe in the Vatican. The difference is that in Hellsing, unlike the other series, there is no gender issue, they don't go and proclaim themselves siding with one gender or crossdressing, it's in their mannerisms and feels more natural.

5. Reggie once pushed a kid in a wheelchair down a hill. That's pretty evil to me. XD I agree with the other points though.

[identity profile] ew-younerd.livejournal.com 2007-09-05 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, the characters go through ups and downs. Archie has deliberately two timed Betty and Veronica and has ditched both of them for each other before. Reggie also saved a drunken Betty from a bunch of disgusting frat boys before she degraded herself before them once :D They all have their angels and devils existing inside of them.

15. I was JUST thinking about this the other day. All my friends that write fanfiction go on and on and on about their dirty fics... which is fine.. but i don't really like it and i don't wanna read them. It feels kinda outcasty, it seems like EVRYONE does it.

23. man, i can barely relate to Haruhi at ALL. She doesn't get excited about things I would get excited about, she's very flat, doesn't laugh often...

yet I still love her~

[identity profile] fishy-pooser.livejournal.com 2007-09-05 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
11. Some people just say sorry a lot to avoid confrontation. Chances are it's not supposed to be whatever gimmick you seem to think it is.

14. There are some fandoms that are like that for me, too. It's not that it feels wrong, but just that it feels like...unnatural. Like with Eureka 7 or something, most of the main characters are already paired off heterosexually and I already like those pairings so I don't really bother looking for subtext, etc. I don't necessarily think it makes you a homophone, that you don't want to slash one series.

16. I seriously doubt anyone would want your pity. If someone is fulfilled by internet life, I think they can have as much of it as they want. I'd rather be outside than on the computer all the time, but it's a personal choice, imo.

22. OMFG I WANNA SEE THE LITTLE MERMAID SO BAD. I think there are plenty of people who agree with you, don't worry about being all "hardcore" or whatever.

28. IDK, but I think I've seen that trend too. Maybe it's because a different type of person is attracted to LJ/fandom in general. As far as I've seen, the more adult members (like who participate in [livejournal.com profile] hogwarts_elite, for a random example) don't often list their sexuality in their profiles. I don't think it's a defining characteristic, so it just seems weird to me that it would even go in a profile/general info/friends only entry? But that's just me.

16. You come off as incredibly self-righteous and self-absorbed. I mean, it's great to enjoy the outdoors and do volunteer work to help other people, but it's another thing entirely to go around bragging about it, as it reflects that your true motives for doing such things are not to better other people's lives, but to instead make you feel better about yourself and make you able to lord your "good nature" over others, like you're doing in this secret.

Some people are happy doing fandom stuff instead of meeting your standards of normalcy. Is that really so terrible? And if you feel the need to brag about your healthy lifestyle to other people, perhaps the person whose sense of fulfillment you need to reflect on is yourself.

...Unless you're a troll. :X

16. Oh, jeez. People will do whatever the hell they want with their time, and they're allowed to.

My dad wastes hundreds of dollars and countless hours building model airplanes. IMO it's a ridiculous hobby that he should not be involved in, but he loves doing it, so I let him be. Whenever he finishes building one, you're damn right he's proud of it, and he gets excited about starting a new one.

Should I tell him he's wasting his life simply because I don't see the value in what he's doing?

23. Haruhi kind of bores me. It's not that she's a girl, it's that uhhhhh she's Haruhi. She's in the host club, she wants to be a lawyer, she's hard-working......... that's about it. Uh, great. Good for her? Nothing in that interests me as a friend/significant other/whatever the hell. She's just another uhhh, nice ordinary studious type that I wouldn't glance at twice?

Like you said, she's the straight-man. She's supposed to be the logical, dull one that beats everybody over the head with common sense. And she does. So what's wrong with thinking she's dull?

(Anonymous) 2007-09-06 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
OP of 23 here. I meant that I don't like hearing people say that she's dull because she was the exact opposite of dull to me, since I'd never seen anyone like her (and by extension like me) in something like that before.

If not - god, I ROFL every time I see that image and I think we need to be friends. XD

21: I used to have this problem in one of my smaller fandoms - it was fanfic about a certain pairing and not just a certain character, but I HATED that other chick and it drove me crazy. FINALLY I found someone else that liked the pairing too, and she is really cool. :D Don't give up!!

Two GinTama secrets in a day is impressive. :/

I know right! I've been a fan of Kankurou ever since I got into Naruto. He's an awesome character.
It kind of made me go "Blargh!" when all of the sudden, after the ep where he's shirtless, 10,000 new fangirls popped up screaming "zomg he's so hawt!"

Re: 18.

[identity profile] jantra.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I have some sort of fetish for puppetmasters/wire users, I swear. I had some friends into Naruto, and I wanted Gaara and Kankuro long, long ago when the original series was just coming out in Japan and they were getting the subtitles. I was like... hot demon guy with angst and a puppetmaster. I was instantly in love. (Yes, for really not-intelligent reasons but now I adore them both for their personalities and histories. ^^) I stopped watching the series eventually, and had (stupidly) never gotten into the fandom.

Recently got back into it. Now... EVERYONE likes Kankuro. I'm just hanging back going... the hell?

[identity profile] ensuing.livejournal.com 2007-09-05 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
8. Whoa, can anyone point me to the artist of this picture? Because goddamn that's hilarious. ♥

19. I am so very curious about what fandom this relates to.

22. Musicals FTW.

27. Whoa there, Zetsubou is freaking hilarious. I don't find Gintama or Excel Saga as funny, but they still make me laugh. Opinions are opinions, but I question your sense of humor. D=

28. BECAUSE KINO OF KINO NO TABI IS THE HOTEST THING I'VE EVER SET EYES ON. It doesn't matter that she's a literary character to me. Call me pathetic or sad, but I can't help how I feel. =3 That said, I really don't know why there are so many lesbians or bi girls in fandom... I may be madly in love with a girl, but it's the only girl I like. Hmmm. =\

Happy Tennis no Oujisama day, everyone!

And oooh, the Gintama oppositions. How interesting that people's opinions can differ so greatly. :S

But for 27, the series' you found unfunny were meant to be humorous for people who live in Japan/understand the culture/speak the language (especially Excel Saga and SZS). Why are there so many people who can't understand this?

[identity profile] sirhellsing420.livejournal.com 2007-09-05 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
About Gintama and the others, you bring up a good point. Maybe it is the cultural differences that make #27 not understand what's so humorous about these series.

YAY PRINCE OF TENNIS REPRESENT

Uhm.

2: half of Seigaku gets up my nose sometimes too, but main characters are just like that sometimes :\b and also, sometimes they're just really entertaining, which totally makes up for the degree of annoying.

4: ... that's sort of awesome.

9: I agreeeeeeeee. I get requests for fanfic from friends that I sometimes happen to do, and those are free and I enjoy doing 'em for people. But fanartists seem to make a pretty penny out of it, and I dunno. Does that make writing the 'lesser art' or something? But then. Drawing is hard. :|b

Re: 2, 4, 9

... *giggles* HI SIAN. YOU'RE THE THIRD TENIPURI PERSON I KNOW WHO I'VE MET IN THIS POST ROFL. LUCKY THREE? XD

2. But Rikkai and Hyoutei still pwn them. ;D /biased

4. ... I agree. :[ I want smutty dreams as the characters. Instead I have Shishi knocking himself out with a computer on top of a mountain while Choutarou wtf's at him. :[[[[[[[[

9. Hum. I don't think I've ever seen anyone ask money for fanfic. :/ I guess fanart > fanfic. Well, that and the fact that maybe fanart is more innovative since. Y'know. You actually have to hammer out a style that isn't a carbon copy of the original artist's.

[identity profile] eli-artemisia.livejournal.com 2007-09-05 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
15. I used to feel that way. I was really resentful about ittoo, because it felt like people wanted any excuse to have characters fuck each other and that gen stories weren't appreciated. I don't like sex being forced into a story, or when authors feel pressured to write sex because that's what so many people in fandom seem obsessed with, but sex can also intensify the relationship between the characters and add a lot more to a fic, because hey, people have sex. I still sometimes feel like people focus too much on porn, but not all stories with explicit content are for the sake of smut, and I know certain authors would be offended if you were to dismiss their stories as 'smut' stories. It's all about balance :P

28. LOL! I had the same reaction you did when I realized how many people in my fandom are gay or bi. I sometimes wonder if I would be as comfortable about my own sexuality if it weren't for fandom. People seem very open-minded here, and I haven't experienced any prejudice regarding my sexuality. It's so strange when I started noticing people's reactions outside of fandom, because I'm so accustom to everyone being okay with it, the idea of people being not-okay seemed so...out there XD No one's been hostile though. Unless you consider being told homosexuality is a disease and unnatural 'hostile'

I think the "lesbians" in fandom are either:
A) Actually 15-year old girls who say they are lesbians because boys don't like them enough / still have cooties.
B) Are in fandom because they are lesbians and fandom is generally more open with that.
or
C) Are "bi" because they are more open-minded because of fandom.

Also, yes, most of the ones I know tend to be "asexual" or girls who think they are really boys... e_e

(Anonymous) 2007-09-05 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Since we're playing Sexuality Police over here, I can say I think a large portion (though certainly not the majority!) of 'heterosexuals' are only completely heterosexual because of a heterocentrist norms in society, and how homosexuality and positive homosexual characters that are not either comic relief, villains, or 'victims' are pretty much nonexistent and invisible in the media, and we're told all of our life that only the opposite gender can truly take care of us and fulfill the family status quo!

But then again that would be being judgmental and pretty retarded to assume such a thing about a large majority of people.

I am not attacking you or anything, but honestly I just cringe whenever anyone says anything about people's sexualities that they don't know in general.

28. I've wondered about that too! I have also noticed that most girls in fandom like androgynous men, which seems to be linked, though I could be wrong.

I dunno, in general I find girls in fandoms to be odd. They seem to obsess over characters more than men do. :x
