The show is extremely popular and there are more people gushing than there are people criticising. So why not just avoid the critics? You're in the majority, after all. I don't see the problem.

Signed, someone who is bored by the RTD vs Moffat wank because she's more into Classic Who.

Happy Mario Day!

I was just about to make your first point. I'm pretty sure FPreg would be more popular if femslash was more popular.

BioWare fans look like creepers from the outside I'm sure...well...they look like that from the inside a lot too.

I feel your pain, though! Once I went to take a look at the Kidnapped tag (quite hopeless, I know), and there was one story, and I was happy beforehand, and

it was a DW crossover

I read it out of sheer despair. It was good, btw. I liked Alan's characterization. But I'm afraid it still made me very sad.

The idea that Jon and Dany (+Tyrion) are endgame with everyone else open season was reasonably popular when I was still in fandom, which would be pre-Feast.

Which is to say you're right, he does perhaps get more credit then he's due, especially at this point, but going in at the very beginning and having Eddard snuff it - that was hugely shocking, and with the Red Wedding and such the 'idea' just kept momentum.

Sometimes I imagine what fandom in general looks like from the outside. And it makes me cringe. Hard.

Yes! I would be all over this. And somewhat related, I keep waiting to see one of those A/B/O fics where men have magical lubricating assholes and the ability to conceive, turn it around where the lady Alphas have magically growing clit/dick type things so they can fuck and impregnate their partners. I want magical ladydick and magical lady pregnancy like burning.

I feel your pain. AO3's search system is shit. Want to read fic about a specific character? Enjoy spending the next few hours going through every single fic where that character is tagged just to find something where they are the actual focus of the story.

Most people don't analyze it (or the 13875784 other relationships comparable to it in various other fictional works) that deeply or focus on all the little details of real-world stuff. I mean, it's a movie about a mad scientist building a time machine out of a DeLorean with his teenage assistant while engaging in shenanigans such as getting hit by lightning, climbing clock towers, and being assassinated by Libyan plutonium dealers.

The stuff you're talking about is so, so, so far away from the purview of the movie that most people wouldn't find it remotely interesting to think about, much less actually discuss. In fact, they'd probably find it pointless and ridiculous. It might make for a fascinating fic, but it's...so not the point.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-10 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It has something to do with how most pregnancies in fanfiction end in the one giving birth usually give themselves totally to the raising of said child/children. Women usually get stuck in those kind of roles, so it's a tired cliches, but men? Not so much.

As someone living in Lincolnshire, I wouldn't've said South Yorkshire was "north east" England. You're just east, really. North-east is Teeside and Tyneside.

I was sitting in a coffee shop yesterday watching Nekomonogatari on my pad, and after a while I turn and see some pretty girl on one of the benches behind me just staring with the perfect look of 'what the fuck is this'.

And I had a sudden moment of clarity when I was struck by 'what does this look like to someone without context'.

"Cumberbottom" is a new one. Thanks. I've been collecting all the perversions of his name because I find it weirdly hilarious.

Rec me femslash

(Anonymous) 2013-03-10 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
that has older woman/younger woman pairing. (I mean like, at least 15+ years of age difference.) Fandom, rating, porn or lack of it etc. don't matter, I just want some quality works to read.

Thank you~

For some of us, picking things apart is how we enjoy our media.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-10 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
If you're good with werecats, lexicale's got mpreg and fempreg. (Well, actually, it's more like each werecat has a human sex and then an additional, unrelated sex that determines their possible reproductive role, so it's not exactly mpreg/fempreg if you look at it that way... and fempreg isn't the focus, just background... Oh, I don't know. But the concept is out there.)

Long-winded creepy k-pop RPF tinhatting written in red 8pt. Comic Sans?

Fandom as a whole is weird for non-fandom people. It will most likely ALWAYS be this way. For every one 'fandom' person you have there will be 20 casual viewers.

Dissapointment stream! 6pm EST!

http://www.livestream.com/kagato23

Dissapointment streams will look at people/movies who let us down. Where we expected more from them, and they did not deliver.

Stephen King has been behind some amazing movies. The Green Mile has touched a million people who have no idea Stephen King wrote The Green Mile. IT has caused paranoid of clowns in people that have never even seen IT. Look at the filmography of movies based on his work. You'll find a lot more...

Sleepwalkers... will not be on the "best of" lists. Catlike Vampires eat virgins. Maybe it could have been done in a way that works... it wasn't.

Then... Godzilla. Who the hell doesn't love Godzilla? I know I grew up watching one of those movies being shown on cable, and loved them all.

And now... WE ARE GETTING AN UPDATE! WITH A HIGH BUDGET AND GOOD GRAPHICS AND IN ENGLISH THAT ISN'T OVERDUBBED SO NO FISH MOUTH... okay the fish mouth was actually kinda funny, but this is GONNA BE GREAT.

And then it was out. And our "YES YES YES" became "NO NO NO".

Relive the agony tonight!

Re: Fandoms viewed from the outside

I think Homestuck is a webcomic? But probably one that updates fairly often, because the fandom is active. It has a distinctive art style that looks like it could have been drawn in MSPaint. The characters are possibly all kids, but some of them have horns and are trolls.

The plot has something to do with a computer game. For awhile I thought maybe there was an actual gaming element to the fandom itself, but I think that was something I picked up wrong and it's all a webcomic.

Thematically, Homestuck says interesting things about game theory. Or at least the arguments its fandom has always sounded very game theory. This might have some connection to the existence of the 'troll' characters.

On F!S the people who ID as trolls and do those incredibly embarrassing troll score cards all seem to be Homestuck fans. I don't know if that means that the trolls in Homestuck are some kind of proxy for internet trolls, or if the people trying to score internet trolls are actually making Homestuck references and I've been misinterpreting them all this time.

Not all the characters are corporeal or even still alive probably, but they're all sexing each other as is the case of every fandom ever.

THIS.

It always bugs me when people say, "stop analyzing and enjoy it!" The two concepts aren't mutually exclusive.

I don't mean to be rude, but the simple answer is...
