Yeah, New York State didn't rush out and ban "high-capacity" magazines that held more than 7 rounds and then realize "whoops, we forgot to exempt law enforcement." And then further realize "whoops, no one actually makes magazines that only hold 7 rounds for most of the commonly-manufactured weapons, so we'll fix that by just making it illegal to load more than 7 rounds in your 10-round mag instead."

Oh, wait.

They do try, in various places. They don't usually succeed. Thankfully.

I'm pretty much like Zuko when I get angry.

So many things to say to this...

As a Muslim, I applaud you for your bravery.

Re: are you afraid of dying?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Depends.
I have never really been actively suicidal, but there were lots of times in my life that I would have been grateful for dying. I remember there was a shipwreck on the news, and I was cooly thinking how I wouldn't have gone on a lifeboat, and it would have been great, nobody would ever have to know I refused to go on it. Frankly, realizing I was thinking that scared me a lot.

Now? Depends on the day, sometimes I still feel like that. But most days I feel there is so much I want to do in my life that I haven't done yet, and get scared thinking in not being able to.

Suddenly my waterpark experience sounds meaningless now...

Texas has some of the least restrictive gun laws in the nation, but Dallas doesn't. The city has a lot more gun control laws than the state does.

Re: Hey, artist, work for me...FOR FREE!!!! (rant)

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Writers get it, too. Harlan Ellison has a famous rant about this that boils down to "Fuck you, pay me!" It's pretty sweet.

The most logical reasoning I've heard is that if someone has an exciting new project, you ask yourself (or them if you're feeling brave) are you making any money off this project? If so, than there's no damn reason in the world why they ought to expect people to chip in for free, unless this is a bona fide charity or a favor for a friend. Promises of "exposure" count for shit, because if they were big and famous enough to give you a decent amount of exposure to the relevant people, they'd be big and famous enough to pay you.

99% of the time, it's just some asshole trying to scam free stuff.

Tbh, I'm kind of glad the RotG version of Jack Frost isn't real. He was insufferable to me.

I actually suffered from the "boogeyman" when I was a kid. "He"'s called a different name in my country, but the syndrome is the same. For years I would see a shadowy figure sitting or standing near my bed and watching me. I started sleep-walking as well, I had night terrors where I would wake because of my own screaming.
It needed therapy to make this shit go away.

So I'm glad he doesn't really exist either ;)

Besides getting a chance to snark at anybody thinking things designed to kill a lot of people in a short amount of time should be regulated, that was pretty irrelevant. The NRA's got gun control pretty much in hand. Nobody's really going to get in the way of the next Adam Lanza who wants to shoot up a room full of people. Don't worry.

Re: are you afraid of dying?

[personal profile] al28894 2013-04-05 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. I know I'm gonna die; I've been to my grandmothers funeral and I was beside my grandfather when he drew his last breath; and I've made my peace with it.

But just imagining the process of it all scares me.

And a higher violent crime rate in comparison to the rest of the state.

Heh, I actually am vegan (wasn't when I was in the States), so that'd be nice ;) I was thinking San Francisco, so there's plenty of choice there, but nice to know that Austin sounds good!

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
How does not being able to believe something isn't true ruin it for you? Why do you have to be young to imagine their adventures? This secret confuses me.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah? I can beat you: I'm only attracted to Jim Carrey when he's Ace Ventura. I wish I was joking.

Maybe it's the environmentalist thing?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
IS true, rather

but that's a poorly worded sentence all around

Re: Well, yes.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Have you ever seen a wildlife documentary? Or even part of one? I've never seen an animal in any those that didn't fear death.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Not OP, but the movie is kinda centered around how great and important it is to believe...

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I can at least see why this is a secret.

Re: Farting cats

[personal profile] cakemage 2013-04-05 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
I've had four cats who were especially flatulent, and the two who are still around still are, though a change in diet did help somewhat. They all came from the same barn and are all related, so I guess delicate tummies could just run in their family, I dunno. But anyway, one of them, Mal, always rapidly twitches his tail right before he lets one, which earned him the nickname of Twitchy-poo. I used to think his were pretty bad until we brought his younger cousin home. Sweet, elegant, demure little Yuna has such profoundly vile emissions that she has driven dachshunds out of the room with them. The vet isn't too concerned, but that may well be because she knows that there is no solution to be found in the world of mundane science. I wonder what my dad's old exorcist buddy is charging these days...

Well, someone would get in the way in Utah. Our teachers are allowed to be armed in the classroom if they have a concealed-carry permit.

Re: Bioshock 2 Racism Wank

[personal profile] gobbledigook 2013-04-05 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think the game is racist, but as far as this wank goes I think the anti-sjw side is way crazier and unpleasant.

It's like they know they can just scream "sjw this sjw that" whenever someone tries to talk or criticize anything and frankly that's incredibly stupid and annoying. It might be because I seem to not come across SJW without making any effort to seek them out, whereas the anti-sjw are everywhere, always complaining about their fun that's being always ruined.

Also white fans telling black people off for being upset at the racism on the game. Can we not.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Hell no, I'd just abduct her and keep her locked up. Forget the web of lies, that shit is unconscionable.

Er, wait, did she have to be happy or something for it to work? I can't remember this movie.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, your fantasies about the teacher taking out the shooter like a badass will prevent any deaths in that situation.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds like the most hilariously awesome (awesomely hilarious?) dream ever.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
This.

As an old school female gamer who has almost no time for playing a lot of videogames anymore, I can totally testify playing these games was one of the best decisions of my whole life. <3
