I just can't ship Wincest. I've just started watching the show now and there is just ZERO sexual tension of any kind IMO. And I've shipped incest pairings in the past, however uncomfortable it may have made me. I just don't see Wincest as a thing. I don't get it. They're just brothers to me.

I will read some PWPs with a wincest pairing (I am in it for the porn idc who the characters are honestly). But I can't read any longfic about them. I don't get it and I hate when the other characters in the fic are so easygoing about it.

A few suggestions.

1. Because they're not real, and therefore whatever is normal to be felt between siblings can be hand-waved in much the same way someone's canon (or in most cases supposedly canon) sexuality can be hand-waved to ship something.
2. Because it's fucked up and people like fucked up.
3. Because (especially highlighted in earlier seasons, IDK, I haven't caught up) there are a lot of ways in which their family/relationship isn't normal/shows an abnormal dependency because of their inability to connect with the world outside of each other, being hunters, etc. See reason 2.
4. Because people just think it's hot and are not actually fooling themselves into thinking the subtext is there.

There's a million different ways for siblings to interact with each other. And a lot of fictional siblings are written with an intentional creepy edge to them. My only two sibling!ships I can think of the top of my head are Azula/Zuko, where there's constant headfuckery and standing way too close and bursting into each others' bedchambers in the middle of the night, and Rex/Ana from Rise of Cobra, where they progress from playful wrestling, gazing at each other adoringly and finishing each others' sentences to reenacting the scene from Nosferatu with a giant hypodermic while Ana's in her underwear.

Neither of these pairs are anything like my relationship with any of my siblings.

I don't watch the show and don't happen to have any incest pairings that I ship in any fandom (and hell, I don't have any siblings either), but I think it's fair to point out that not every sibling relationship is exactly the same. The way siblings relate to one another can be hugely affected by birth order, gender, age gaps, the presence/absence of other kids around, individual personalities, and a million other things. What you see as "just being brothers" could come across very differently to someone who has a different relationship with their siblings.

I can honestly say that the relationship between the Winchesters hardly resembles the one I have with my own brother and sister. Just having siblings doesn't automatically make every like relationship in media relatable. (And if it really needs clarification, no, I don't ship it.)

I only see Sam&Dean as bros personally. On the other hand, I have written and read other incest pairings. It's just fiction after all so ship what you wanna ship.

Strangely enough, I ship several other incest pairings but not Sam/Dean...I think I'm doing it wrong.

And for the record, I have siblings but that doesn't mean I ship myself with them just because I ship other incestuous pairings. In the same way I don't ship myself with friends, co-workers, strangers on the street. All this 'how can you ship incest if you have siblings?!' just seems idiotic to me. How is it even relevant?

I'm a younger sister who's extremely close with my older sister. We both have a major incest kink in fiction, but there's never been anything like that between us. Maybe the fact that there's a complete lack of tension is why we can ship it and it doesn't seem weird? I don't know.

Also, there's sibling tension and then there is sexual tension. They're different things. But sometimes writers toe the line on that one, and some fictional situations are very close to the kinds of places where real life incest or "too" close sibling relationships start up so it seems pretty obvious that that's a place where fanfiction or whatever could go.

My little sister and I both ship wincest. It's our favorite ship in any fandom. And no we don't feel like getting it on with each other.

I don't understand why people think having siblings means it's impossible to interpret sibling pairs in fiction any differently than their own relationships. I've written forced autocannibalism, do you also assume that means I want to eat my own insides?

PROTIP: It's fiction. Lots of people like stuff in their fiction that they're not interested in doing in real life. This is good, because otherwise the world would have a lot more shooting/killing/etc.

For example, in addition to shipping many incest pairings, I also watch Breaking Bad and enjoy the depiction of their drug manufacturing/dealing, but have no desire to produce/sell/use crystal meth irl.
