Why? Most movies "aimed" at kids have points only adults will understand on purpose these days.

Hell, my first real date with my now husband was a Disney movie! And the same for my mother. There is no age limit on being able to enjoy a good movie OP.

Nobody told me that when I turned 30 I had to give up all the things I enjoyed. If I had known, I never would have done it. I am a dissatisfied customer and I demand a full refund of the last decade.

I know a lot of people are going to be "who cares, watch whatever movies you want" but I have a lot of trouble going to see any movies by myself, and most people my age don't watch "movies for kids" so I never end up seeing any of these in a theatre

Don't be ridiculous. Animated movies are meant for everyone. I saw Up in theaters twice and both times the theaters were packed -- and I counted exactly two children in the audience each time.

Eh, fuck what other people think and go see the movies at the theater by yourself. They're awesome.

I'm 23 and I love these types of movies. I don't care. Hell, there's a big group of people my age excited for Monsters University and Finding Dory.

That's when you double up with a friend. Yeah, it feels awkward to be the lone adult in a theater full of adults with children but somehow when you buddy up with another adult, you don't feel so bad. It's like you are two adults living your childhood again through animation. That or you are just a couple of animation geeks. But, again, it's numbers. Trust me on this. I hate going to animated movies by myself but never when I drag a friend along.

Learn to give fewer fucks about what people think of you. You'll be a happier person for it. I regularly go to see kids movies by myself or bother my boyfriend into going with me. Do you really not have any friends who'd be down with seeing a kids movie with you? More people our age like these movies than you might think!

People really aren't looking at you as much as you think they are. If you can get over yourself a bit, you'll have an easier time.

I saw Jurassic Park yesterday and got way more hyped over the 3D trailers for Monsters University while simultaneously being disappointed that I didn't get a Cloudy 2 trailer like I did at Escape From Planet Earth [do not recommend].

Just go to the theatre by yourself and enjoy yourself. You probably won't be the only solo adult there, and even if you are, other people are going to be paying more attention to their kids than they are to you. Just have fun, and don't worry about it.

I'm 32 and I feel no shame whatsoever going to these (or any) movies by myself.

(Also, you might enjoy them even more without young kids along, because you can pay attention to the movie instead of them.)

Well, I'm 29 year old with no nieces, nephews, or children of any kind in my life, and I watch the fuck outta those movies.

My fiance and I go see those sorts of films all the time and we don't have kids, plus our niece is still too young to go to the cinema. Anyway, we're never the only adults with no kids.

I know that's not exactly the same as going alone, but the both of us have done that too. I remember going to see The Avengers alone last year (because I wanted to see it a second time) and there was loads of other lone viewers then. Sure, people consider comic book films a little more "mature" and the rating usually reflects that but ultimately...it's still in some ways pretty much aimed at children/families. Just older ones.

Tl;dr there is no age limit on fun films, or you shouldn't be made to feel there is one.

Also I am the sort of person who used to get really anxious in social situations and constantly worry about what people thought of me. Going to the cinema on my own the first time was a really liberating experience and made me notice how much other people don't notice you. They're too busy dealing with their friends or kids or munching on popcorn to bother with you.

I turn FIFTY in a couple of months and have seen all those movies. And would have seen them even if I didn't have a kid. And there's nothing "shameful" about it, ffs.

I understand why you might feel like it's unacceptable or whatever, but if you can get over it, I'm pretty sure nobody's going to stop you from entering the theater because you bought a ticket for a movie that's 'for kids'. Hell, most of these movies have a fandom, which rarely has the target audience in it, right?

I've gone to some of these movies with my friends and we're all in our 20s. My mom also loves watching Disney/Pixar/DreamWorks films. She prefers to watch them over a lot of "adult" films in fact.

Just go and have fun OP! No one judges you more than yourself.
